How come we keep hearing of or reading about Premier League Clubs who have just signed upcoming youngsters or young exceptional players e.g. Aston Villa, Spurs etc. Why don't we ever spot any players with potential? Have we got lousy scouts or none at all?

patty blue,

we do sign "up and coming" talent from other clubs.

Have you heard of Lukas Jutkiewicz, from Swindon, or Scott Spencer, from Oldham?

We also have some very good young talent of our own, in Vaughan, Anichibe and Boyle who are breaking into the first team, and youngsters like Jack Rodwell who has captained England U.16 many times.

Put firmly in my place!! But my mistake - I should have made it clear I mean foreign talent like this young German Spurs signed yesterday. There must really be some good fines out in Europe in the young age group but we never seem to find them.

Have you actually got any examples Patty? If your on about spurs signing Kevin Prince-Boateng,he has had a few seasons in the german league and is quite well known,it was just spurs were the only ones willing to cough up the asking price!

Ahem.....

Everton trial French starlet

Ahmed Yahiaoui has been offered the chance to train with Everton.

David Moyes is looking to strengthen his squad before the start of the new Premier League season.

According to L’Equipe, he will cast his eye over Yahiaoui for the rest of this week before deciding whether to offer him a deal.

20-year-old Yahiaoui is looking to kick-start his career after a difficult couple of seasons at Ligue 2 side Istres and Swiss outfit Sion.

He was tipped for future stardom after helping France to win the European Under 17 Championship and remains highly regarded.

Why does talent from overseas have to take precedent over UK talent?

John - cheaper?

John - better?

I watched a lot of games of the U21 European Championship, some teams really have great players in all positions. England had some average players out there to be honest. Add that to the cheaper-bit Allan already summed up and youve got your answer.

Getting to the young players nowadays is big business in itself with the teams with the most money and influence getting the best talent, deals are setup all over the place, just look at how Arsenal seem to get the best Africans and Barcelona with Mexicans and so on! Its another area where Everton need to build in order to compete!

Michael - whose Truner? Better watch your spelling and computer skills instead of having a go at a 67 year old for wishing to remain anonymous as Patty Blue. Anyway that’s the way I think of myself!! For god’s sake, I’m old enough to be your granny!!

Carl, well done for shitting on the lads before they’ve had a chance to shine.

These lads are the future of our club like it or not at least we have some sort of British contingent and there is a policy there to ensure the future of British players coming through the ranks.

I’m not sure young players from abroad really do work out cheaper or better in the long run. It is a pretty big risk as they often have problems settling in. I remember Spurs had high hopes for Ziegler a few years back and they have just offloaded him.

Also, London clubs have an advantage in attracting these players as they are going to a well-known capital city (this is an advantage they have over all non-London clubs).

We seem to be trying to assemble some talent from these shores and if (yes - big if, and earlier a big seem) we are doing that I don’t think we can moan about the lack of foreign youngsters.

I don’t get these claims that somehow we neglect good young talent. Since Moyes took over at least one young player has come through per season and he’s been bringing plenty into the academy. The best are inevitably going to go to the top clubs, Arsenal pay significant transfer fees into the millions for some of their youngsters. We simply can’t afford to do that.

I think you have a point Patty, if you look at the quality youngsters arsenal and spurs have brought in over the last 3 years you realise how shity our scouting system is.

It is getting better though which is a promising sign.
