Leon

I see the match report failed to praise Leon Osman for his 45 minute cameo. I just wanted to highlight that he was the second best player out there last night, creating chances and out-muscling people (what the hell?) on a few occasions.

I have heard quite a few people mention how they were impressed with his performance. If he can keep that kind of form going it would be like a new signing! With the old Leon as part exchange of course. Even if he just started to put pressure on the first 11 I would be happy.

I see Leon’s beefed up a little bit, maybe this will bode well for the future as him being out-muscled a lot last season was a low point for him.

Osman is a super little player but his lack of physical presence has really held him back. If he had more strength he would undoubtedly be playing for England by now.

This is a big season for Osman. He can no longer claim to be a youngster, in fact in Everton’s youthful side he is now one of the senior players and must respond to that responsibility.

Its time for Osman to fulfill his potential. Osman now has to prove that he is good enough to hold a regular place or he faces being left behind by the ever improving squad.

Not sure I agree with your assessment of Osman there Dutch, he has a way to go to make the England squad. But I’d obviously be delighted if he does add some bulk and strength to his evident skill.

Look, Leon is a descent player, no Paul Scholes or anything but the guy is good. I wonder if there is any other team in the Prem that slates their own players as much as Evertonians do. It really is disappointing to read some of the things written by people calling themselves Everton supporters, but only ever talk about how poor our team is.

HERE HERE DAVID!

Osman was immense last night during the time he was on, bettered only by the world class Mikel!

If I was a player mulling over a move to Everton, and took a quick look on the site at our so called Everonians, I’d run a mile!

God help Mikel when he has a mare!

Get behind the team instead of slating the players. In terms of quality, we are better than most in our league and this is why we aint payin ridiculous money for Shit Bags like fulham are etc. (oh and the fact we are skint lol)

Its all well and good watching all these teams splash the cash but the players they are buying (with the exception of the Top 4 and Spurs) aint worth the Dosh! No where near, and even the half decent ones still need to gell together!

We’ve been there and done that over the last few years!

Baines by Friday and Smith to follow, shortly after him is Vogel!!

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!

Went to the game last night, after our compulsary slow start we played sum very encouraging excellent footy, Arteta took the piss, and Osman did have a super half, really good feet, clever passing, If he was 6ft with a bit of pace he would be in the England team.

I hope you’re not talking about me, I was merely having a laugh. I think Ossie is a fine player and back him to the hilt.

Allan,
I wasn’t talking about you or anyone in particular with my comment, actually thought what you said was funny. Just venting about some of the stuff I read on here about many of our players. I just think some people need to take a step back and gain some perspective. Our squad aint half bad, we did better than 14 of the other clubs in the Prem last year, took 4 points off the shite and Arsenal, should have beaten Chelsea if it wasn’t for a terrible off sides call but settled for a draw, and are going to be playing in Europe this season. Our players accomplished this, so they can’t be as terrible as some people make them out to be.

I thin there is a difference between a friendly and a real fast paced premiership game but Leon impressed me as did Mcfadden, Lescott, Yobo, Anichebe and of course Arteta.

He really does need a good season. He has showed his qualities in the past 2 seasons before last so we know he has it. And you always hear the likes of AJ saying he is one of those players with natural ability. What I seen yesterday I liked.

Did you think he’d beefed up, Steve? I don’t know. I couldn’t really tell whether he’d done any strength work over the summer just by his body size but he didn’t fall to the floor in a heap like he did frequently toward the end of last season.

Sorry to depart slightly from the discussion but I’m curious about Anderson’s performance...he wasn’t mentioned in any match details that I could find apart from him scoring...when did he come on and who for?...

Joe,

He came for the last 10 minutes or so, I think it was AJ he replaced.

He looked eager, to eager sometimes but you cant blame him for that.

Apart from 2 sloppy balls that he gave away, he was buzzing about and getting stuck in.

I honestly think that the more games he gets the sooner he will adjust to the pace of the PL, and once he has done that, we could have a player on our hands!

He’s a mountain of a lad! and he’s Brazilian! Could be worse ;0)

Toffee, your right about Anderson, a few more games under his belt and a little more time to adjust, he could be a great player. There were a few sloppy passes, but there was that great 40 yard cross field pass which showed true brazilian class. With him in the squad he offers something different to the team, and could prove to be important depending on how long Cahill going to be out.
Also you don’t really see many 6 footer Brazilian players around (apart from that Nando giant last night for Bremen), who well built. He seems that he has the strengh for the premier league, so hopefully he has a future at the club.

Good passing players always need a while to adjust to the players around them - if anderson gets a few more games he might star showing some talent. The problem is they always look so stupid while they’re "tuning in"
