Am I a scouser?
Comments (14)
I was born in Bootle in a house that's 0.8 miles away from Goodison Park and about 300 yards outside the administrative city boundary. I've been a Blue for as long a I can remember. Until the move to Kirby was proposed I'd always got a long thinking that I was a scouser. So what's the deal? Am I now a scouser-second-class or, fuck forbid, a "woolyback"?

Well, .8 miles is about 1200 yards which deffo makes you a Liverpool fan. As for being a Scouser? bloody right you are!
There used to be a Liverpool and Bootle Constabulary, Bootle is part of the Liverpool Urban Area, and there was a proposal in the 70’s for Liverpool to annex Bootle.
What we need is a Greater Liverpool which could include (conveniently) Kirby, then all we’d have to argue about is the worryingly shit-cowshed appearance of the design for the new Stadium.

You’re a Scouser Jem, and so are people from Kirkby.
But Everton?s cultural habitat is here in Inner-city Liverpool on the banks of the Mersey. It?s a unique place, the most dramatic urban landscape in the country with some fine Victorian streets.
Remove us from the locality and our cultural identity will be compromised; this vicinity is the cradle of our history. We are not a franchise, we are a footballing culture of one and its own kind and we cannot simply be uprooted and re-planted elsewhere even if it makes financial sense (which in this case is far from apparent).
Vote NO and put this nonsense to bed.

Sorry Jem but Liverpool isn’t and never has been part of Liverpool and by that definition you are not a scouser. I appreciate you are only 1200 yards from GP but the boundary lines are drawn and Bootle is outside of Liverpool.
To Liverpool folk Bootle will always be the place where ’the bugs wear clogs’

Well Mike, I’ll find it easier to vote for Kirby then; and yes I have a vote, as does my father, my brother, three of my uncles and two cousins.
We’ve been in Bootle for four generations, my Grandmother still has scars on her legs from when the docks and Bootle were bombed during the second world war.
I support the club, not the City who have let us down so often.
You’re welcome to it.

Dont do it Jem
I was born in Bootle abd lived there nearly all my life and now live in Litherland which is considered even more wooly by some of the city boundary dwellers, but i will still vote no to Kirkby. EFC draw great support from North Liverpool and i think most of that support will want us to stay in the city even if some of our fellow supporters dont consider us as scousers.
VOTE NO TO KIRKBY

Yes you are a scouser and no one is saying you are not. I am from inner city liverpool and to me people from Bootle, Crosby, Kirkby and Huyton are scousers. But at the end of the day your families migrated from the likes of scotty road to Kirkby and Bootle which is outside the city. So I will be voting no to Kirkby not because of the people who I see as my own but the place they are based.

If the boundary doesn’t matter, why, according to Wyness, did the club try so hard (an 18 month search) to stay in the City?
They can’t have it both ways.
It is either an arbitrary boundary, or it matters.

my Mrs is from Bootle (I was born in Wavetree) and I always tell her that she is not a scouser ;0) but when we visit her family in Bootle (we have not lived in Liverpool since ’78) and I go to see the Blues I usually walk from their place off the southport road - I won’t be able to do that if EFC go to Kirkby - I’d have to start my walk the night before.
everton for the city

But what happens if you were born in Fazakerley Hospital and then brought up and lived in Bootle for most of your life? Does this class me as a scouser? What about being born in Fazak and brought up in Kirkby? Scouser? This whole discussion highlights the ridiculous nature this debate about an arbitrary boundary and who / who isn’t a scouser. Fuck me, we will have to start taking birth certificates and proof of address to the game to please the KEIOC brigade. Its as pathetic as the other lots ’Reclaim the kop’ shite for which we rightly ridicule them.If some of these idiots had their way only ’true scousers’ would be at the match. Lets see how long the club lasts then when the only people allowed in are Alfie Hincks and his mates.Bootle, Kirkby, Huyton...if you think the people there aren’t scousers try telling them. PS.Having spent time living away from Liverpool and defending it’s reputation against all manner of southern prick nonesense. I obviuosly shouldn’t have bothered! If you think anyhwere else in the whole country views these places as anything but scouse then you can’t have been outside the city much.

Steve fully agree with you since moving away in ’78 we have resided in Oz, NZ (citizens), Dubai, London etc and have also defended our beloved city. Especially in London where we still have a place - we used to live near seven sisters - jeez have you seen the state of the place and have a stroll around whitechapel and the east end - what a sh*t hole.
Both me and the Mrs have our passports which clearly and proudly state Liverpool as place of birth and my birth certificate states I was born in Oxford Street, Liverpool so I will get in if they are introduced - not sure about the other half she has bootle on her certificate??<
Patty Blue only joking my Mrs although a Bootle lass is a scouser without a doubter but has leanings towards the darkside has my Mum (die hard red where did I go wrong she must have picked up the wrong baby)
keep everton in the city
