Who is the £2m player + cash for Baines?

Comments (18)

The BBC story mentions cash and a player for Baines. As far as I can tell it must be Ossie or Cars. Based on last night and our teeny squad wouldn't want either to go. Any one know the full story (or at least take a guess!?) [BBC link]

A lot of talk up this way among the North West fan club, someone knows someone at the club kind of crack, but I’ve been told it was Valente.

According to a Wigan Athletic website the players offered for Baines were James McFadden and Lee Carsley.
Link supplied hope it works.

I would’ve though McFadden was worth more than that maybe £3-4 million. Or maybe not.

Can’t remember where I read it but it was a reliable source (convincing I know) but it was Van Der Meyde. Makes sense really, he’s in that price bracket. Carsley and Ossie are Moyes’ favourites and VDM has been itching for a move away for ages. Also fairly obvious why Wigan didn’t want him!

I know he’s not in a position to be picky like, but surely Van Der Meyde wouldn’t agree to join Wigan even if we told him we didn’t want him anymore. Also in today’s inflated market I’d expect at least 4m for McFadden.

We’re not offering a player any more so what does this matter? That was rejected, we are now offering a straight cash deal.

Radio Merseyside reported it as being Andy Van Der Meyde.

If we get Baines Nuno no no go go!
He must be worth 2 million - and has few years on contract. Also seems logical that Wigan will want a left back.

I wouldnt be too sad to see him go - I think he is a bit patchy and lacks pace

I agree with David Barks, it's not been accepted so why debate over the subject? Waste of time and energy. Lets look forward, not backwards. Who else can we sign?

To tell you the truth lads,it wouldn’t suprise me if Baines was talking to other clubs before he made his decision. All the talk of him wanting to play for us is taken from what Roy Keane said, and Keane said it was just a feeling he had. Also,he is a red,so there is no connection with hin wanting to play for his boyhood club,us.At the end of the day,it is all down to money.Who pays Wigan the most and whoever pays him the most wages.Alan Smith supposedly turned down £60k a week from Boro. Are we going to be able to match them kind of wages?

They were offered Shandy but they wanted Carsley. Now we are back to just an agreed cash deal spread over several years.

Brian - Can you prove Leighton Baines is a Red?? I told my son he was and he is convinced he is a true blue, so much so he’s bet me £100 on it!!

Patty,if you put Leighton Baines into your search, and then go onto Leighton Baines fourfourtwo interview. You will find the proof there that he is a red.He states that he used to go in the kop and watch his favourite player,Robbie Fowler.Your son is going to be a £100 lighter this week.Hope I have been able to help.
