Alan Smith

So, it seems we missed out on Alan Smith to Newcastle. 1) Do these players learn nothing from recent history but 2) We need to ask ourselves why we missed out on the player, when with injuries to Tim and Vaughan we REALLY could have done with his services.

I read a quote from Fat Allardyce who said that Smith has other clubs to consider but he hopes that he choose Newcastle. It aint over till the fat manager sings.

Smith to Barcodes... Thank goodness for that.
What does he do? Speed, no; height no; poacher, no; fight yes.
£6m for him. So glad we didn't get him. He would have added nothing except to make sure our position at the bottom of the fair play league.
T all those who wanted him.....
Apart from the message that we had £6m to spend and we can compete in the market place, tell me one positive thing he would have brough to our club?
Smith and Barton in the same team. Good Luck Sam. Newcastle the next Bolton and it will be interesting to see the fans' reaction.

The lads what? 27 - 28 a seriously bad injury behind him, the inability to play 30-40 matches a season.
Thank goodness for Newcastle is all I say.

Again this is one of those where wh haven’t actually confirmed any interest in Smith, its just the tabloids linking us with every man and his dog.
Lets be honest we’d all have Smith over Beattie, and if we can get £4m for him, Smith looks cheap at £6.
As Allan says it ain’t over till the fat manager sings, I just hope Davey pulls his finger out!

He’s 26.
He hasn’t played much due to being at Utd (barring the injury) and therefore not likely to be in the first 11 ever anyway.
Personally I think he’d be a good signing but I doubt it’ll happen. We can’t even scrape together enough money to buy Baines let alone another £6m play!

When I said the inability to play 30-40 matches a season, I meant that his fitness isn’t there and I doubt he’d manage it following his injury. He will be physically incapable of playing a full season in my opinion.

Smith is definitley a step up in quality compared to Beattie. He has a good touch, good technique and is a little bit nasty. Isn’t that what we are about? His commitment and professionalism are outstanding and he will always give his all to the cause. I think if we get him he would become a fans favourite, far more so than that fat fraud Beattie.
The problem is that Newcatle will offer him 60-70k a week and once that happens we are fucked as happened with Parker, Barton & Sidwell who had agreed to go there before he realised Chelsea wanted him. What bemuses me is that they are signing another striker to go along with Owen, Martins, Viduka, Luque & Ameobi when they have no decent defenders and have sold their two best midfielders and Allardyce is bitching that he hasn’t got any money. I always thought once they got a good manager they would see big improvement but now I think the whole club is just fucked - they should have transfer sanctions placed on them for their own good

Steve - thats pure speculation. I dont see what there is to found your claim that he wont last a full season. Alan Shearer came back from 2 bad injuries. Andy Cole broke both his legs when he was about 26. David Busst....oh no shit..

What’s Busst doing now, is he on a free?

So much for "Alan Smith will be an Everton player by 3 p.m. Monday".... these rumours are as bad as the inactivity that’s happening. Suggests Ben [ who told us the tale ] goes out and shoots his DJ friend.

I remember in one post that Ben said that everyone could call him a tosser and he wouldn’t speak to his DJ mate again if this move didn’t take place.
So Ben on behalf of everyone you are a TOSSER!!!

According to this link

Beattie is waiting for advice from his Dad before moving to Sheffield Utd.
Did we not have to get rid of him first before going for the Emmerdale Eminem?

No we have to get rid of Beattie to raise the extra capital for Baines.

But is Baron any good on the wing?
Allan

He’s more of a holding midfield player - or so he says.

I posted a couple of times here to say,I didn’t think Smith was worth a gamble at £6m.Thing is though, even if we would have had a £6m offer accepted,we wouldn’t have been able to afford his wages.Boro came out through the week and said they offered him a deal at 60k a week.He turned it down, because he didn’t want to go to Boro. That is the type of wage he wil be looking for.Also,Danny.Concerning the length of time Cahill will be out.Sky said the club wouldn’t confirm the length of time he would be out, only he would miss the start of the season.Another thing I wanted to pick up on was Vogel. If Betis only want £1m for him,he can’t be any good if we don’t rate him at £1m.

It’s alright lads we’ve just signed that 9 year old from Man Utd on loan for the season.

Sam Allardyce is a bent screwy fucker...Did you hear the cheek of the man recently have a pop at Juventus keeper Buffon over a tackle on one of their players, calling it ’a common assault’ Sam you have signed a lad that should be in prison ( Barton )..You bitch!. Its typical Everton that they have missed out on Smith, to be honest I dont have anything else to say on the matter regarding how piss poor and inept the football club is doing transfers..Man City have just signed THREE players in one day whilst E.F.C pussyfoot around talking shite..We havent even made a bid for Baines yet have we?. Nothing is ever done fast, its the same with Vogel and all the others we’ve missed out on.

I think it is safe to say that Big Vic and AJ will be upfront against Wigan.
Unless.......... and its a big unless....... Smith decides he does wanna stay up north. If he goes to newcastle then he will be on the bench.
Is he gonna oust Viduka? NO
Is he gonna oust Owen? NO CHANCE
is he gonna oust MArtins? Nope,
they are ok for strikers!
Aj needs a partner and at the mo, he doesnt have one.
Boy’s.... There is no way that Moyes would let Beattie go (even though he is shit and even though its class money) when we only have AJ and Victor fit.
Its not like we can play 4-5-1 effectively now, Cahill is fucked too!
I think there is still more to come from this story, and I wouldnt be at all suprised if he is number 9 for us on 11th August.

I’m sorry, but Smith is just not a quality player. He has had more yellow cards than goals i his career. Beattie has scoredmore goals than he has! The guy is neither quality, nor worth £6m - end of.

Having now watched Smith express his willingness to join the Barcodes I am mightily relieved. It would have been a disaster for the club to waste what money they do have on a guy who doesn’t really cut it as a striker and never really made it as a midfield enforcer. 6m would have been a lot to spend on yet another utility player. Should really have gone for Nugent when we had the chance.
