The Last Summer of Love

Being an Evertonian one gets used to disappointing close seasons.

Year after year we wait patiently for impending transfers that never materialise, investment funds that have been invented as smoke and mirrors tactics or we watch our prized assets leave and then promptly slag us off in the papers.

But this close season has got to be the worst ever.

Forget all the aforementioned examples of blue ?character building?, the issue that worries me the most is the massive division or split that has appeared over the Kirkby debacle.

Let?s not go there on this page, TW has miles of comments for and against. No, what I want to do here is remind us all precisely what makes us so special.

We are Evertonians. Proud, honest, loyal devotees to a Club that means more to us than any club or club supporter worldwide!

From entering school to finding out 80% of your classmates spurt chunks about the dark-side, yet in reality they wouldn?t know how to get to Anfield even if they were on the 82c. But guess what, the minority blues in your class go the match!

From travelling abroad and standing in a bar with your new home shirt on when a total stranger comes up to you and kisses the roundhouse.

Or when you bump into an Evertonian mate you haven?t seen for over 10 years and you carry on the last conversation you had ? as if it where yesterday.

I know you know what I mean and you could probably wax lyrically about other instances of camaraderie, between blue and blue. But what makes my heart sink is watching us bicker, whinge, moan and generally slag each other off - in what is obviously the biggest single issue us fans have had to deal with since our inception.

Whilst the debate continues let?s all remind ourselves of the reasons why moving means so much to us and take 5 minutes out to occasionally say, ?Hey guess what? I disagree but I respect your views because you are an Evertonian too?.

Love and life to Blues worldwide for and against!

I just hope that when it’s all over and whatever the outcome it’s all forgotten about and we’re not pointing the finger at each other and saying ’it’s your fault we didn’t / did move to Kirkby.’

Perhaps those who want to should stay at Goodison and those who want to move to Kirkby, do so. Oh no, that’s been done before and look at the outcome of that!
Those who forget the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat them?

Hmmm Thommo good point the lessons of the past; cue serial lies from BK and his pocket lining henchman KW’s self interests.

Thommo....I hope that you are trying to point out that it was the Club that stayed that prospered in the long term.

Brian, Hope you are still reading but it was meant to cover a lot of points not least being the divison created between supporters.
