Smith and nonsense?

Comments (8)

I read this on the ToffeeWeb website, "ToffeeWeb understands that Everton have agreed a deal with Manchester United and Alan Smith but that the announcement won't be made until the eve of the ballot on 'The Kirkby Project' so as to maximise the feelgood' factor ahead of the vote.

"As our source says of his source, 'I know he'll be dead pissed off with me for sharing this but just had to show everyone how cynical these buggers are!'

"We have no idea as to the veracity of the information so, as usual, don't shoot the messenger! We're just passing this stuff on..."

Isn't this liable?

It seems ToffeeWeb and Ben were talking nonsense about Alan Smith because he has been on Sky tonight talking about his move to Newcastle. Why have people got this so wrong?

It seems Moyes has got it wrong too, we missed out on a £4.5m Nugent and have yet to sign any attack-minded people which has recently been highlighted as a major mistake considering the fact that Cahill and Vaughan are out for a few months. On top of that Moyes has agreed to sell Beattie which will reduce our squad even further!

I hope Moyes has a plan otherwise we are in the shit.

ToffeeWeb weren't talking nonsense (and who's Ben?) because we never made any claims to its veracity in the first place. It says that right there in the text you quoted. The Rumour Mill is 95% crap ? it does exactly what it says on the tin ? the interesting part being that at some point ? unless the club really do perfect this "Everton Way" ? that 5% is going to be true.

I’m pretty certain Everton did a deal with Man U for Smith but that it foundered on personal terms.
Agreeing a price is probably the easy part of a transfer these days!

Odd, Gavin, I thought Steve Pienaar was an attack minded player.

Granted, he’s only here on loan but he is here!

Lyndon,
That comment of yours is rather naive. To get 5% accuracy all you’d have to do is link us with any one of a number of players mentioned on the forums. Why don’t you work harder at checking these rumours and don’t post them unless there is at least a bit more certainty/credibility to them?

I don’t see why Toffeeweb should work harder at checking rumours. If we can only talk about things once they have actually happened this would have been a very long, slow summer. Personally I like hearing all possible thoughts, ideas and speculation and I believe that most people who read this site are intelligent enough to filter accordingly and understand what is fact and what is speculation.

Chris Davies if the rumour mill pisses you off that much then don’t read that part of the site - personally speaking I enjoy it even if it is rarely accurate. But if you read the disclaimer you’d know this in advance anyway

My point was that toffeeweb has been anti-kenwright and anti-kirby all along and including this on their site was a decision made on the basis that it would effect people’s decision when they come to vote on kirby. They didn’t ahve to include it and they probably knew it was bollocks, well it was bollocks.

Not having a proper go becuase its a good site and gives us the opportunity to make a point but that message disappointed me. And no I am no kenwright supporter.

The point being made is that the site put massive anti-Kenwright/anti-Kirkby spin on a nothing story - even if it was just a rumour. The rumour could easily have been surmised as:

"According to a source, Everton are close to agreeing a deal for Manchester United striker Alan Smith."

"Close" in that context could mean days or weeks. Basically, they tagged the spin on top of the story as a cheap shot at the board.

And, hopefully, the admin and moderators aren’t about to deny they’re anti-Kenwright/anti-Kirkby - it’s a bit blatant!

First off, Ben is a gobshite.

Secondly, Toffeeweb said that the Smith thing was a rumour so read into it what you will, if you choose to believe it it’s your problem.

Thirdly, Ben is a gobshite.
