Wait & see....

Whilst I'm not altogether satisfied with the quantity of player purchased this off season, I'm pretty happy with the quality. Even young Lukas looks a player. But I'm getting a little tired of all of us being up in arms that everybody else is improving around us. I know Man City, Villa, West Ham, Blackburn etc are all buying more players than us, but will they make an impact?
Of our 3 signings, I think Pienaar & Jags will be excellent. Baines would make three impact players. If another team - let's say Man City - buy 8 players, but only 2 of them make an impact (for whatever reason), then have they really improved more than us?
Now PLEASE do not take this as a defense of the transfer policy/ability of the club. I would love to see more men in a blue shirt with a European campaign to take care of.
But please people! Don't make drastic claims that we're on our way for a massive tumble, because those around us have bought up. Warm bodies don't always mean capable footballers.
Moyes has a pretty impressive stike rate in the marketplace, and while i would like another player or two (praying for Baines at the moment), he's not prone to signing many duds. Even Krøldrup has proven himself a player in another league.
I'm taking a wait-&-see approach with all the clubs, right now. Come December, we can disect every clubs transfers and see what we have.

Why would 3 of our signings (out of 4) work out, but only 2 out of 8 for man city. Rose tinted spectacles mate!
Here’s another scenario for you, just as speculative as yours.
Out of our signings, all prove to be squad players but not better. Many city’s signings all prove to be bargains and are all palying international football by the end of the season. Result: man city finish above everton due to lack of transfer activity and poor purchasing.

Not saying that won’t be the case. Indeed, City could end up with an awesome squad if all their guys come off as planned.
There is every chance Pienaar could not adapt to England. All i’m saying is that we are all cutting our wrists a bit too soon.
And i think we could fall back, but i don’t think it’s due to the players we’ve drafted in - it would be more due to the players we don’t.
All i’m saying is, there is a policy in place - good or not os for another debate. Let’s give what it’s produced a chance to develop before we all jump all over it.
Remember, we only bought 3 first team players last year, as well.

Jarrod, Let’s not forget that we are involved in Europe this season. Bodies will be bruised, and injury will take its toll... We need strength in numbers this season.

BTW
I think that 2 of our guys (making the assumption Baines signs) will work out because they have experience in this league.
Love Pienaar as a player, but i’ve seen better players not make it, here.

Jason .. I agree....Injuries have all ready started to take their toll Both Vaughan And Cahill out for the start of the season. Remember the start to the season we had in 2005/6 ( 1 win in 8 and out of Europe in both qualifying rounds) unless we strengthen and increase the squads depth i feel a repeat could be likely if we get a few more injuries. Jarrod... I don’t agree with you about Moyes’s strike rate, Davis, Beattie, Van der Meyde & Krøldrup all piss poor in an Everton Shirt.
Bill Kenwright said (15/03/07)"There will be money in the summer. I always believe that if you put someone in charge then you must support them. We have always got to be looking to reach that little bit further. If you look at Everton on and off the field, you will see that it is going in the right direction."
Well come on Bill, get the cheque book out, lets see some transfer activity at Goodison Park . What we’ve seen so far is a pathetic.

I am still not sure I would have been overly ecxited if someone had told me back in April that going into August the only player we would have paid money for is Phil Jagielka..Im sorry but it just doesnt set the pulse racing does it really? Jags to me is just another Phil Neville and is he ever going to be a better defensive midfielder than Lee Carsley?. Will he even replace Carsley there?. For me the only place I can see him excelling in our team is at right back in place of Hibbert..I cant see playing a right footer at left back ever worker and not if we get Baines anyway..Defensive midfield..Well I cannot see him prizing Neville out of the picture there, after all he usually is the club captain when Stubbs is out..In my opinion we needed Pienaar or a player like Pienaar for that position of the team a whole lot more than another utility man..I just couldnt see the logic in it and still dont, not when were crying out for widemen ( we have got one in Pienaar) and also a striker if Beattie goes..I guess its pretty much everyone to there own opinion but as Ive said before would people not have been on here saying Bolton or Wigan paid well over the odds at 4 million for Jagielka?. I know they would

Can anyone honestly see any more signings for us this transfer window, it seems even small clubs can out bid us. What a piss poor state of affairs anyone think Gregg was right and Kenwright wont let anyone else play with his train set.

Sounds like Arteta agrees with you:
"It is going to be a long season and we definitely need new signings," said Arteta in the Daily Mail.
"If everyone is 100 per cent and stays fit then maybe we will be okay, but if we get two or three injuries, we are going to need more players.
"We have a great chance to move the club forward again, and hopefully we can have a good run in Europe and keep improving.
"We have a better squad than when we were last in Europe two years ago; more experienced and better prepared. But it really is small, and if we can bring in some more new faces, it will be more than welcome."

It’s not so much the lack of transfer activity but the worryingly apparent lack of funds. It is known that we WERE interested in smith and he plays in an areas we certainly need numbers due to injuries.
We finished higher than would have been budgeted for last season and with gates and revenues up just WHERE is the money going??

Well to be honest I think Arteta is going to be getting pissed off before too long..He signed that new contract on the strenght that we may also be playing in new stadium in three years time, but if that falls through Arteta will be gone next summer and nobody could blame him really..His talents deserve to be on stage in the biggest of tournaments at the Champions League and World Cup and sooner or later he will realise that only a move away will make this possible..Everton used there heads in this though..They know if Arteta leaves next summer he will have FOUR years left on his contract thus Everton can demand a nuch bigger fee for him..Arteta could have walked last summer and this but so far we have managed to swing him in our favour, another season of under achievement and I include a failed bid to move grounds in that then I think this could be his last at Everton.

It actually looks official now also.. Everton cannot afford Leighton Baines and the deal looks in real trouble of going ahead so Everton switch defender targets..This is so fucking typical of Everton F.C. What a complete shambles..They have probably realised they cannot let Beattie go because none of those muppets who run us can find a suitable replacment, so that means we cannot afford Baines..Sick joke Everton..Club is run like a second division outfit

How long does it take to agree a 6mill fee??? It’s all bullshit by our pathetic bored. If the board hasn’t got money why make false bids? Wasting everyone’s time and making us look like fools. Once again we are becoming a laughing stock. With Cahill and Vaughan out i would have thought midfield would have been our priority. In Jan three of our players will be off to the african nations. The squad will only have about 16 players. Deep down we all know if something doesn’t happen very quickly on the transfer front, we really are fucked. May be the board and Moyes are waiting for the Jan transfer window!!!

Ray i couldn’t agree with you more. If we pick up injuries and fuck up this season due to lack of numbers and quality. Then i believe Arteta will be gone. I’ll personally wish him good luck and wouldn’t blame the lad.

The whole situation is a joke.
Every morning I come into work with that faint glimour of hope that we will be linked with a half decent player, only to find out that when we are the likes of Wigan, Portsmouth or Newcastle have beat us to it. I ask you, if a player would rather one of those clubs to ours, irrespective of wages something is seriously wrong.
I remember the fears when we took Fernandes last season, those concerns of what if this guy does actually help us get that top 6 finish, what if we do get into Europe. Then he goes. Well thats happened now, and what has the board done about it, fuck all! Excuse my language there but this is one very frustrated Blue.
We will sign Leighton, Vogal is on the back burner and hopefully will come through. But besides them two I really don’t see any new faces coming in. It has come to something when the clubs best player has spoke to the press saying we need new faces.

we will struggle next season, and the season after we will be fighting relegation- Arteta, AJ, Lescott etc will all leave.
Moyes as well as the Board should take blame.

I am astonished at times by the amount of shite that is talked on these forums!! For fuck’s sake go and be Kopites and enjoy the fact that the bearded twat will spent millions on very average, mostly unproven players.
Were have you read that we can’t afford the £6m for Baines??? Perhaps you’re taking as evidence the wildly vague comments of an agent earlier in the week???
And as for Harj, I’m lost for words pal. Following a season when we finished 6th and qualified for a European competition, it beggars belief the pessimism that comes from some quarters. Granted we are all frustrated by the lack of activity in the transfer market, but the drivel that is spouted by some drives me fucking mad.
If you hold opinions like that (and each and everyone of us is entitled to an opinion), I’d rather you didn’t come to Goodison on a Saturday afternoon.

The only people who shoud come to Goodison are those that think everything in the garden is rosy? - bollocks
I pay over £700 a year to Everton and I am entitled to my opinion, negative or otherwise.
Simple fact.
We had a great season last year, and all of us (including you) where anticipating better things this year.
Everton have reduced their squad numbers, not improved, and in doing so THEY have created the negativiy that I am entitled to.

Nick C - I admire you for being positive - The bottom line is we pay our hard earned money to watch our beloved club so we have an opinion - good or bad, If we have no money then they should come out and say- Kenwright himself said money will be available for DM, yet we cant find £1m for Vogel, £6m for Baines - a bargain in my opinion - other clubs eg man city sign 7 players in 2 weeks - explain? - we are being taken for a ride. Why are we just making the numbers up in the premiership? we have done very well last season- now to show real ambition we need to consolidate - i’m not saying spend 30-40 million- but a bit more ambition would be nice - I dont want to take my family to GP to see drivel. I want EFC to challenge top 4, make a wemblet cup final appearance, do well in europe -only by signing additional quality players will we do this.

Just had a lunchtime pint with one of the local press lads.He says he’s been onto Wigan all morning about the Baines deal and was told they are adament they want £6M and Everton are going up in £50Ks.
He says Everton are renowned for loading deals with appearance and performance clauses and are known throughout the game as bastards to deal with.He rekons Baines will be ours once bidding reaches £5.75M.That’s if Allardyce don’t steal him from under our noses!

I real;ly do hope we get Baines - he will give us better balance on the left - Typical of EFC - no wonder none of our transfers go smoothly - EFC will drag this out and before you know it one of the big 4 will come in and snatch him from us - just typical !

I have actually heard that Sam Allardyce is planning a last ditch bid to steal Leighton Baines from under our noses..Thats just what we all expected though and Im not even shocked by this..It takes Everton so long monitoring and pondering situations that we will be waiting forever at this rate...I cant believe such a deplorable condition exists at a club that has just finished 6th in the table, qualified fro Europe and two years ago came out with the bold statement after a failed bid for Michael Owen ’ this is just to show the fans we will be in for the top players when they are available’. So how come we only have Jagielka and a loan signing to show for it this summer?. It leaves me speechless as to how every other club has greatly improved the size of thier squads this summer..Even Birmingham manage two signings in one day for Christs sake.. Evertons board deserve all the flack they gey if this season goes tits up like it did two years ago..I wish the players well as I think they are the only ones who want to achieve something..The board are just a fucking pathetic joke and frankly I wouldnt put them in a Christmas cracker
