The Everton Way

Without wanting to bore people with another assessment of the continuing lack of activity in the transfer market I wish to comment on how Everton approach each potential target and the drawn out process that always seems to ensue.

I was personally astounded by Bill Kenwright's statement following the acquisition of Phil Jagielka "We done it the Everton way" as in a laughable self modest and righteous assessment of the Club's transfer policy. Since Kenwright has been at the helm almost every transfer has been the subject of PR spin, red herrings and embarrasing failures, little in the way of substance and more in the way of publicity.

To me the Everton way is now synonomous with leaking information to the media, duping the fans on the eve of season ticket sales about money being available to the Manager, and long drawn out protracted negotiations. The going rate is the going rate, I didnt see many Clubs bartering over the sale of the likes of Kilbane and Davies who in my honest opinion went for well over their valuation.

Whilst Kenwright is in charge expect no difference, this unfortunately is now the Everton way and every Club, Player and Agent knows it. Its easy saying the market is overheated, quality players are unavailable but the de ja vu of two seasons ago scarily seems so apparent. We enter the season with Cahill and Vaughan out for lengthy periods, come January we lose Yobo and Pienear on international duty and god forbid injuries to any other key player. Its always difficult keeping the faith as an Evertonian, but for me this pre-season has been a huge let down and a statement of the Club's lack of ambition when it is needed most.

Couldn’t agree more....every year they pick us up with false promises only to well & truly kick us in the nuts...unfortunately every year they kick us harder. It would appear that this year ( considering what happend two seasons ago) will be the hardest kick of all.

Fully agree!! It is going to be unforgivable if this club has a mediocre season because of a lack of fit players this up coming season!! All the warning signs are there now, what with the injuries to Cahill and Vaughan. Yet all we see is our targets going to other clubs. It is very painful being an Everton fan right now!

I can’t really see what all the fuss is about. Cahill, Vaughan, Anichibe, Johnson, Mcfadden and poss Pienaar can all do a job up front. So timmy and Jimmy are injured for the first half of the season they will be fresh for the second half. We stiil have 3 or 4 who can play up front or we go 4 5 1 for a time. The beauty of our squad is it’s versatility. That’s what makes us strong. If we go out and buy another forward just cos we have two out injured what happens when they come back from injury. We need to strengthen where we don’t have cover which is essentially left side and poss centre midfield. Baines and Gonzales and we are sorted.
