The Mail Bag
The year of the young

Has anyone considered that David Moyes` reluctance to blow money in this inflated transfer market is possibly because of his confidence in the young lads already named in the squad? By any standards, Moyes has proved a genius in `bringing players on`. He made a world class star of Rooney — so much so that his sale probably saved the club!
He`s made a solid Premier footballer out of the `too small` Osman and followed this with the introduction of Vaughan at 16 and Anichebe just a little older. No other manager can come close to equalling Moyes `one a year`average of creating top drawer players from the ranks and I have a sneaking feeling he has some new discoveries waiting in the wings.
Unlike many Evertonians, I believe the lack of transfers to be all part of the Moyes Masterplan. Why blow millions on moneygrabbers when you can build your own team for next to nothing?

I have been defending them all damn summer, but every week that passes with nothing being accomplished puts us under more and more pressure before the season even starts. Arteta has already stated that he is worried about the size of the squad, not a good thing for your best player to be saying just a week before the season starts. We talk about the great spirit and moral in the squad. Well what type of spirit do we have currently when the best player on our team is talking to the press about his concerns over the size of the squad. He’s not worried about quality, he’s worried about numbers. When football pundits speak of Everton they generally agree that our starting eleven is very good, right up there with the top teams. The problem that they all see is that we don’t have the depth needed to sustain the amount of games we will be involved in this season. I hope Arteta’s comments give Kenwright a kick in the ass and pay the bloody fee that Sunderland already established with Wigan for Baines.
