Vogel & Principles

Comments (11)

So everyone is kicking off about not paying £1m for Vogel.

Everyone believes it is we do not have the money. Forget it, if it was just £1m then we have at least that much.

But why do we need to pay the £1m? Either Real Betis want £1m for a free agent or Vogel wants a £1m as a leaving present and Real won't pay.

So you all expect us to pay out £1m we don't need to. So what happens the next time and the next time and the next time? We have stuck by principles and maybe lost out on a 30 year old player who only wanted to be here to be in European competitions. But the message is out there, Everton are principled negotiators and can't be bought/strongarmed.

This is a long game — and from someone whose daily job is to manage a buying portfolio of £60m — I wish some of the short term charlies out there who would accept the first offer that is on the table, were my suppliers. I would make such a large bonus based on my negotiations, I would be able to buy out Bill! Our strategy will work out, don't worry

Fair comment, but doesn’t explain why every transfer goes wrong for Everton, I can’t remember a straighforward transfer in recent times.

Agreed we don’t wish tp pay agents etc etc...but we are way too cautious in my book - so much that we shoot ourselves in the foot !!!

The problem is that we are not in the best of negotiating positions given our squad size. The player is under contract, obviously, and the team want 1 Million for him. What’s your reasoning for not having Baines in already? The negotiating had already been done for us by Sunderland, we knew the price that Wigan had agreed, all that was left was for us to come in and pay that and the player is our. Remember that negotiating goes both ways, the other side wants to get as much as they can in a deal. So since teams like Newcastle and West Ham and Man City have way more money than us, we can’t afford to try low-balling negotiation tactics. We have to go to a player like Baines and get the deal done at least within a week. I fear we have already lost him to Newcastle.

2 injuries short of a complete disaster is a bit much isn’t it?

We have 26 first team players on the books fair enough the majority have no European or Premiership experience, but they’ll only gain experience by playing the game.

Let’s accentuate the positives and stop looking at the negatives.

Steve,

I post regularly on here so most people will probably have seen that I am one of the positive ones. But we have to adjust our sense of reality based on the events that we witness. I agree we are not going to have a disastrous season, that’s ridiculous, but there is something wrong here. I don’t want to sink back to finishing 10-12 because we are too short on players to put out a competitive side each game.

Fair Comment Steve, but we have to ask questions as to why Management lack ambition -all the hard work of last season will be undone. any signings we make now will be ’desperate’ ones.

If it’s only £1m to bring in a decent player to add to a depleted squad and we get an attendance in the region of 30k, why don’t we all stop whinging and buy him ourselves, £33.33 each, I’d happily stump up the cash! Any other buyers out there???

Isn’t this all just speculation ? As far as I know, there hasn’t been a single word from Everton about why the Vogel deal hasn’t been wrapped up. For what it’s worth, my reading of the situation is this : Real Betis are at loggerheads with the player over whether he is still under contract, this dispute does not directly involve Everton, and until it’s been resolved our hands are tied (or so Everton would claim).

Yeah we negotiated him into the hands of another team.

Vogel is an Everton style leader who is worth much more than £1M. He also has at least 4 years of world class quality left in him.. so lets see how much we end up paying for someone not as good!

Sound business sense mate!!

I now it is only a rumour. But,please, please, please not Jerome Thomas!!!And before anyone says he would be a good signing,I have a neighbour who is a Charlton fan.And when I used to chat about the game with him,the first thing out of his mouth was "We need to get rid of that twat,Thomas. He’s a fucking waste of space"They were always his words. Also, have we now got to a point were we will just be bringing no-marks in to make the squad numbers up?

The plain fact is that the market determines player prices and wage packages. If your not prepared to go with this then your immediately making your task of trying to sign players that more difficult

Everton/Moyes have made it clear that they believe prices for players on the open market to be skewed by virtue of the fact that more foreign money has come in. Well, I’m sorry but that’s just the way things are and it doesn’t look likely to change in the near future. Again, we can only hope that someone completely different with fresh ideas and more importantly hard cash comes in to allow us to compete with the mainstream. Until then we will not advance with the likes of Man City, West Ham, Newcastle, Villa, Pompey breathing down our necks. Christ I hope that the Observer were right last Sunday when they said they expected the club to be taken over in the next year. The sooner the bloody better as far I am concerned

Yes its evident enough Everton CAN NOT BE BOUGHT or WILL NOT BE SOLD.
I see the point your making but at the end of the day if a pint of lager goes up 10p you either accept it and pay it OR bugger of to a cheap cash and carry and sit on your own.
We need to get with the times or we may as well pack up and go home now.
Kenwright is a joke.
My missus was going to but me the new Home shirt today untill I told her to forget it.
"why she asked?" to my reply "its not as though they spend the extra money on players"
