To pay or not to pay

I see Smith's signed for the Skunks. From what I've read on here recently there's a split in the camp as to whether it's good or bad news. Immaterial now I suppose. Interesting though. I mean, what are people's feelings towards Everton's "alleged" wage ceiling. I say "alleged" because nobody really knows what the ceiling is or whether there actually IS one.
But from what I've read the rumour seems to be anywhere from 35-40k/week. Still makes me shake my head when I'm even only writing those sort of figures, but that's another story.
So do you go to a club who's qualified for the UEFA cup on circa 35k a week, or do you go to a club who hasn't, and has also underperformed forever (!) on a reputed 60k a week? (I'm dismissing the possibility that the turmoil Everton "appear" to be in re the ground move would be a deciding factor:but it might).
Well Smith's answered the question (if we even bid for him at all) one goes where the money is. I reckon that 95% of people would do the same. We have a saying where I work: "In a shit sandwich, the more bread you get the less shit you eat".
One would have to have an extra special liking, or bond, with a club to turn down an extra 25k a week...
