Give us a choice!

I have just returned from the KEIOC presentation, and must confess I went with an open mind regarding the stadium debate. I have always maintained that I would vote for whatever option I felt was the best for Everton FC and Evertonians present and future.

I asked the following questions:

  1. If Goodison Park was to be redeveloped on the existing footprint, how long would it take? How much would it cost? And who would fund the project? It appears that it would take four or five years, and nobody could give me answers to the cost and funding questions.
  2. If Everton FC were to relocate within the city boundaries, would the City Council donate land to Everton FC? Would a commercial partner match the contribution promised by Tesco?

The Bestway representative informed me that Liverpool City Council were prepared to allocate Bestway a plot of land, which would free up the Scotland Road Loop, which in turn would be donated to Everton FC He was a little vague regarding the funding, and to tell the truth I lost the drift of his explanation, as it was pretty chaoctic at the venue, but he seemed to suggest that the Bestway contribution could be boosted. Because he didn't give a figure to begin with it's impossible to evaluate the assistance Bestway would provide.

I implore anyone who has influence to urge Everton to defer the Kirkby ballot, and to encourage all the interested parties [Everton FC, Liverpool City Council, KEIOC, and any potential partners] to sit around the table to discuss any alternative proposals. To dismiss them out of hand would be doing a great disservice to Evertonians, we do after all deserve something more than a take it or leave it situation.

It disappointed me to discover that Everton FC were not represented at today's event, [they must listen to the voice of the fans,] and if Kirkby is the preffered option then so be it, but give us something to vote on.

That’s all I’ve been asking for John. What harm could it do to postpone the vote for a month, and sit down with all parties involved? At the end of the day,if it is not viable, the club can say thanks, but no thanks. And they can turn round to us and say they explored all avenues, but none were as financially viable as Tesco.
