Car-crash summer

Comments (25)

Who would have thought that after bouncing out of Goodiosn after the Portsmouth game we would end up enduring the worst summer in living memory and I am not talking about the weather.

A highly divisive stadium ballot where a Yes vote will represent the hollowest of victories as no one wants to go to Kirkby regardless of which way they vote.

A transfer budget and policy which once again is making us a total laughing stock - "hang on a minute, Wigan, I think we have just found another 50p down the back of the Park End — can we pay over 1000 years". I would ask Mr Dodd how he explains the Baines fiasco with his stated belief that wages and not transfer fees are the problem

And finally, injuries to 2 key players which just confirms my post-Istanbul suspicions that somehow Everton have greatly angered God/mother nature/the universe and are going to pay with an eternity of torment.

For me this summer has confirmed beyond doubt that Kenwright lacks the influence, finance and vision to lead a top football club. I don't trust in his ability to manage or deliver on any major project. "Wait and see" is a shit strategy but Kirkby with Kenwright may actually be worse.

I think if Moyes says at any point in the season that we are short of numbers then he should immediately start running and not stop for a very long time.

Still, on the bright side I look forward to the 31 August press conference when we will unveil those world class Albanians.

Expect the youth team to be take the field in the UEFA Cup to protect the first team squad.

If we do go into the new season with no new additions.I wonder how seriously the club will take the EUFA cup?I’m only saying this because obviously the prem should be our first priority. But,if we have a twat of a journey on the thursday and a difficult game. Then on the sunday we have another hard game in the prem. How would this affect the team selection for the thursday game?Just a thought that was running through my mind.

I think with Moyes cup record we wont have to worry about many UEFA cup matches.

What gets me is how he and BK can show their faces when they talked about being as active as possible in the transfer market - lies or incompetence - the end result for the club is the same

Take heart. At least we’re doing it "The Everton way". (c. B. Kenwright)

It’s simple John, these shisters, Moyes included, just need to go. It’s only going to happen though if we get an investor in who can radically change things from top to bottom. Until then, it’s as we were - limited signings, crap football, running the business like charaltans, make do and mend. Say your prayers tonight John

That should have read ’charlatans’. My opinions have hardened fast over this summer as I’m sick of the same old disappointing carry on from this shower of shit

This summer is a joke, what with the bastard rain and now lack of transfer activity at EFC.

It is the usual story with us, the club lets enough of a story out about a player to start joyful speculation amongst our fans, only for us to spend 2 weeks anxiously biting our nails and getting excited to the point where our lives revolve around us breaking into vast amounts of sweat to catch the news on radio city and our eyes glued to sky sports every minute of the day(well of an evening - i do have to work in the day).

Smith would have been a very good signing and had the hunger and aggression to do well in the team, but his decision to go to Newcastle was probably money orientated as well as thinking, sod this EFC are taking fucking ages, if they want me surley they would push the boat out a bit more.

Baines? Well that remains to be seen if we can pull that off, he obviously wants to come to us, but with the season only a week away, if by next thursday we are still dithering and fannying around searching for spare change around goodison’s floors, then don’t be suprised if he reacts the same and thinks sod this for a lark, i’m off to newcastle before it’s too late, i’ll get good money and they are better than wigan!

The truth of the matter is we are skint, whether it is because we are saving all our money for the Kirkby move or it is down to piss poor management, the bottom line is we have no money for only half decent targets and if by august 31st we have not signed any new players of a good quality ( I am talking about at least 3 game changing players) then we are stuffed, up a certain creek without a certain instrument.
Our squad is barely big enough to deliver a top 6 finish let alone have a good run in the domestic cups or the uefa cup and now with JV and Tim out for a while, if AJ and/or Arteta get injured, never mind the cups we will be screwed in the league, maybe not relagation but not far off!!!!

Now Bill, do something about it before we not only lose our integrity, but our manager and best players come this time next year!!!!

"We are going to try to be as active as we can," said the boss. "I think we are an attractive proposition to players who maybe just can?t quite get into the sides who are currently in the top four."I think they will see plenty to like about Everton we are broke and we are knocking on the door and trying to win things if we possibly can in 100 years. The Goodison chief has big aspirations for next season as he eyes both cup success and a significant challenge of the Premier League top four "Cup runs have eluded us so far during my time here."We are not far away from challenging the top four but it?s just the case of just signing two players and that will be it.

My god this is so depressing. Promises of money for transfers and there goes smith and young Nugent and probally Baines. no sign of Manny returning. To all those pro-Kirby people please see that we have a twat of a chairman whose words are a false as he looks. He is a proven Liar and the only way to rid ourselves of him is to vote no to Kirby and call for his resignation. 24/7 search for an investor etc etc and now with no transfers and Cahill and James long term casualtys I predict a long hard season. Did he not say that the stadium move would not affect the transfer kitty. What a liar what a fonny twat. Vote no and start to save our club please.

I m totally fed up with this mess ! My optimisum is gone and I m really downhearted. The truth is we are not a big club any more and it hurts. We are beaten by even the smallest prem teams in terms of transfers and even Shef Utd can match our spending power ! GREAT WE ARE A LAUGHING STOCK. I want Manny, Baines and a target man and maybe we won t embarass ourselves but with Cahill, Vaughan and a dodgy AJ things aint looking too good at the moment !

Yobo, I sincerely hope your not going to put in a transfer request as the arse will just drop out very soon after. And to think we were once the ’Millionaire Club’

Nice to see im not the only one suffering, but lets be fair surely the money and transfer targets should be identified well in advance ?. We never spend big but if we r as far behind some of the teams that finished well below us whom seem to b pissing money out expect another year of beating the drop !!! kenwright 4 new signing asap starting with baines.

Alright calm down lads this has certainly not been the worst summer in living memory, far from it.

Losing out on the very average Alan Smith, Jason Koumas and David Nugent was nothing compared to the sheer horror of watching our own Wayne ’once a blue always a blue’ Rooney sign for the Mancs. Now that was a shit summer.

When you think about it things haven’t been that bad, despite fears that Everton would be forced into moving to Kirby, Kenwright has agreed to let the fans decide. Thats good news and exactly what we wanted.

Deadwood players Naysmith, Wright and Pistone are history while the excellent Jagielka and exciting Pienaar have been drafted in. There’s also plenty of time to add a couple more, hopefully one of them will be Baines.

No question its been hard to sit here watching other teams spend a fortune on new players while its been quiet for Everton but please worst summer ever? No way.

Remember back in 1997 when Howard Kendall went crazy and Everton’s summer transfers that season were Gareth Farrelly, John Oster, Tony Thomas amd Danny Williamson? How can Jagielka, Pienaar and voting on a new stadium be worse then that or Rooney leaving?

No matter how much spin you put on it Dutch,it’s a fucking disgrace.Considering KW and BK are trying to convince fans to trust them and vote for Kirkby, they are not helping themselves with all this transfer palava(is that a word?)When you have Arteta coming out and voicing his concerns’you know things must be bad.I’m just praying this is Kenwrights plan.Get all the fans wound up,and then hit us with some big name signings.Thing is,I won’t hold my breath.I really do think you work for the club Dutch.Because, I have never heard you say a bad word against the club, even when they have deserved it.

Dutch, the crime this pre-season is to build the fans’ hope so much and then dash them through ineptitude.

I was buzzing after the Pompey game. Now I’m deflated. Just as bad as when Rooney left actually, because then I expected nothing better.

Another false dawn? Another set of broken promises? Another missed opportunity? What can be more depressing than that?

We unearthed a few gems who can only get better and despite some diabolical referee decisions and farcical never to be repeated defending from free kicks and minus for long periods our two main strikers we reached 6th place.
Our squad and manager came through a steep learning curve and will be the better for it.
I would not swap our keeper or backline with any club. The few signings we made could solve our midfield problems.
Clubs that finished below us are splashing the cash in a desperate attempt to catch us up. Those further down the ladder hope to stave off relegation by spending like mad. The top 4 were as good as they could get and to stay ahead of the game they have to lash out fortunes.
While other clubs hope and pray their money is not wasted we have in place a young but very experienced squad that can only improve over last years effort.

By God, that Australian beer must be strong. That was last year.

You have to invest in the Premiership even to stand still.

Brian Waring, I don’t work for the club, I just love it, I’m like a parent who cannot see fault in a child because of love.

Every single inch of me is blue, I think its the best club in the world and it sickens me when people say bad things about it.

Dutch, ever heard of ’Tough Love’?

As for Australian Beer with a comment like "we have in place a young but very experienced squad that can only improve over last years effort" I’d be asking what he’s been smoking Ray, not drinking

I love the club just as much as the next person Dutch. As with children Dutch, when they do something wrong, you let them know what they have done is out of order, even though deep down,it hurts while you are doing it.
Russ Kavanagh
23   Posted 04/08/2007 at 10:19:54

Dutch, the problem with partents like you is that the ’child’ becomes errant and begins to behave badly. In the ned the behaviour gets out of hand through lack of ’investment’ in rectifying the wrongs and disaster ensues as the child falls!

Dutch Schaffaer
24   Posted 04/08/2007 at 20:50:47

I agree with your argument but our child isn’t being bad, Everton are the last team to win the FA Cup, the last team to break into the Top 4 and we finished 6th last season.

Everything is going smashing so why keep picking away at things?

Some parents cannot be pleased no matter how well the child does.

Yep Dutch, everything is going super, great, smashing....come and have a look at what you could have won
