Just Relax!

Comments (12)

I just cannot believe that so many Evertonians doubt the ability of our Chairman and Manager to operate successfully in the transfer market.

So who was it that bought us Arteta, Cahill, Neville, Howard and Johnson—all players of utmost quality? Just who was it who put a team together that broke the monopoly of the so-called Big Four?

Now I know most of you live for today—the past is history and tomorrow might never come, but the bile aimed at our worthy leaders over the past 24 hours totally beggars belief. How many of you really thought that Barton, Nugent or Richardson would add real value to our team, particularly at the ridiculous prices being demanded for them? How many would seriously consider Smith worth paying £60,000 a week? Not too many, I guess, if you had to live with the consequences of your actions!

Make no mistake, whatever some Evertonians think of them, Kenwright and Moyes are admired and respected throughout the game for the simple reason they work as a team — and are good at what they do.

Whether or not the Baines deal goes through, come the end of August, they will have ensured that we are properly equipped to mount a challenge for success at home and abroad. So relax, will you and leave it to the experts.Everton are in safe hands!

Richard, how you can sit and type some of the stuff you do with a straight face is a constant source of amazement.

I'll gloss over the assertion that Phil Neville is a player "of utmost quality" and the laughable suggestion that Kenwright is "good" at what he does, and take you up on this nugget: "How many of you really thought that Barton, Nugent or Richardson would add real value to our team?"

Erm... David Moyes for one. He tried to sign each one them so he obviously must have thought he would add real value to the team.

And where does this confidence come from that "they will have ensured that we are properly equipped to mount a challenge for success at home and abroad" by the end of August? You do realise that many fans' idea of "properly equipped" was the addition of at least six first-team grade players this summer with at least a couple of those being top quailty? So far we've signed two and would at this point be happy with another two of even mediocre calibre.

We all know the reason is because the funds aren't there and I genuinely sympathise with Moyes this time because he can't offer someone like Smith £60k a week even he wanted to.

You related to Ken Dodd? That is nearly as bad as his jokes. What a load of bollocks and a few injuries and a few hidings away from home and you will change your tune - you wait....

As the acknowledged nemesis of Dicky I’m led to believe he really exists and can be found in the Freshy maybe under a pile of broken glasses post Aug 11 when his beloved Chairman Bill fails yet again with his meaningless tripe, another poster claimed to be the best Evertonian in the world, we can all claim to be better Evertonians than your beloved Bill instantly in that we don’t bullshit our other fans with lies and supposition to retain our position. Dicky where’ the promised extra players? Dicky where’s the fans will be kept constantly informed? Crucially Dicky where is your beloved Chairman Bill as it all turns to shit at everton FC with the clock counting to the new season and the ground move and not a sausage from your beloved Fuhrer?

I think previous transfer windows have instilled kind of blind optimism in some of us that there will be a last minute swoop similar to the Martyn/McFadden/Jeffers deal from a few years back. But the way this close season has gone - the farcical Vogel announcement and subsequent silence; the mooted Nugent/Richardson/Koumas/Smith deals that have come to nothing and the interminable wait for Newcastle to gazump us for Leighton Baines all suggest that we are seriously skint. If Beattie has been sold we’ve actually made money.
Even the injuries to Vaughan and Cahill don’t appear - so far - to have prompted any action. I hope that I am wrong and that a few players are brought in otherwise our UEFA cup campaign might be as painful as the last one - or it might mess up our league form.
Still, 27 days of finger crossing to go - I hope we end up with more than the onset of arthritis!

Kenwright is respected throughout the game? Are you serious?

What you mean is he is well respected at Man Utd because we sold him the world’s best young talent at a knock down price and had that ludicrous gentlemen’s agreement not to play Howard which cost us the game against them. I can assure you Doddy, that everyone else thinks Kenwright is a very poor leader.

Doddy makes a very easy target for our frustration although,in this instane,he is not far off the mark. Most sensible Evertonians-not the ones who post (bore)on here -feel confident of another good season.Yes,we do need cover but I have no doubt that Moyes will bring in the necessary two or three players before the deadline.

Ah, Richard. I have to admire your sense of optimisim. I wish some of it would rub off on me but I’m afraid it doesnt and I have’nt got that buzz looking forward to the new season which starts, er, oh yes, next Saturday.
There are quite a few of us who are desperate for BK to be the best Chairman ever but he’s getting more like Frank Spencer (apologies to younger viewers) every day. He can’t help but do the wrong thing. In his case, doing the wrong thing means just pretending everything is hunky dory.
We Blues are fighting amongst ourselves - it’s the classic divide and rule scenario and BK & Co. has to take alot of the blame for this. Richard, I respect your views and I respect your bravery in writing what you’ve just written but well, let’s just accept that our views are poles apart.

Kenwright was a Coronation Street actor many years ago and to be honest sometimes I think we would be better off with Steve McDonald in charge than Kenwright and his merry band off ass heads..I’m sorry but they just dont run a Premiership football club well thats all there is to it..When have we heard Kenwright come out this summer and talk about transfers and what we are looking to do?. Not once..There is no communication and only Wyness spouting his bullshit about transfers windows developing late and we will have all the faces in before the season starts..BOLLOCKS!. You talk shit..If you cant deliver the goods just come out and tell us, but please.TELL US WHY.. we are wondering why clubs such as Sunderland and even Birmingham who were prepared to cough up 6 million recently can out do us in the transfer market..Where is the money that all the clubs recieved this summer?. Where is our prize money for finishing 6th?. Or the money from T.V appearances last year?. The money for the players that have been sold or left?. Weirs wages?. The fee of Kilbane and Davies?. Wrights and Pistones wages?. Fernandes?. The money made from 20’000 plus season tickets sold?. I could go on and on but there is never any answers.

Ray, the answers to your questions are in the accounts. Year ending May 2006, Turnover £58m, Staff costs £37m, Write off of players’ transfer fees, £11m, Other expenses £18m, operating loss £8m. As you can see, we spent over £40m on players (some of the staff costs will be for the non-playing staff).

The seemingly bottomless pit of Sky money that everyone harps on about is not quite so big as everyone makes out. For the year ended May 2006, we received £26m for broadcasting, not enough even to pay for our players’ salaries.

We might have got an extra couple of million for finishing 6th rather than 11th, but you can guarantee our players’ costs will have gone up.

The players’ wages you’ve mentioned will enable us to pay wages to other players, but they’re not going to generate the £5m+ needed to buy the player in the first place.

Sunderland and Birmingham are taking a risk i.e. that the money they pay will keep them in the premiership, and they have no alternative, they will go back down with the squads they came up with.

Everyone’s forgetting that we’re already starting off with a squad that just finished 6th, and by buying big (and well!) last season with Johnson, Lescott and Howard, we did our big shopping while the market was cheaper than it is now. If Darren Bent is worth £17m now, there is no way we’d have been able to afford AJ this season.

The money from the season tickets sold will have gone to reduce the overdraft and loan Everton have, which they have incurred to buy the players we’re seeing now.

We just don’t have the money to afford to take the risks people are talking about (£6m and £60k a week for Smith, a player who has more yellow cards (78) than goals (68) in 389 appearances - no, thanks!). And the reasons for this are not down to any financial impropriety, it’s just simple mathematics.

Or do you expect Bill Kenwright to take out an advert in the Evertonian to apologise to all us Evertonians for the lack of signings, because we’re skint. Come on, get real, they’ve got a business to run, what sort of future would we have if they told you what you wanted to know, that we’ve got no money?

I might not be so positive in my wording as Richard was, but I’m with him - this club is much better run than it has been for years, and things are moving in the right direction (do you think we’d have even had the chance to moan about havng enough players to cope for a European campaign under Walter Smith??).

Richard Dodd,I totally agree with you in most,if not all of your posts but you should know better than to post anything positive or optimistic on here! I think the fans should have more faith in the people who run our favourite club as they ARE doing a good job!

Keep up the good work Bill and Keith! :)
