For the love of God, vote no!

Comments (8)

I'd planned to vote 'yes', but today I took a stroll down to Goodison to see if the Old Lady had anything to say to me.

I've taken another look at the Kirby proposal and in the cold light of day I think it is awful. It's a great solution for the Board, they get a new stadium on the cheap (and if you look at the plans, cheap it most certainly is), but it's crap for fans.

  1. Personally, love Arteta and Johnson, but I couldn't give a flying fuck if they signed contracts on the basis of playing in an aircraft hangar in two years time. They'll be gone in five, but we'll all be around post that.
  2. Wyness and Kenwright? They are offering a paltry £10mill a year if we rip the heart out of Walton and move 130 odd years of history. Insane! They could raise ticket prices by a tenner and get the same result.
  3. It's wrong. It's a mistake, I too was wowed by the prospect of shorter pie queues and clean toilets, but that is not what we are. We are NOT some generic football club: We are Everton, steeped in history, steeped in Liverpool.
  4. I'd rather move into Anfield than leave Liverpool — in fact, once the RS move into RS manor why don't we move back into Anfield and redevelop Goodison? The exclusivity period has denied any real debate; we have the board saying 'take this or we're fucked'.
  5. Finally, I'm a blue, just am, always have been; and the gut feeling that made me one tells me that Kirby is a big mistake.
Vote No, make the board look at alternatives. Don't sleep walk into this.

i am happy to move, goodison is a crap hole and a move will be good for the club in the long run, not like we spend big on anyone as it is and if we had new stadium things would change, we are already far behind the redshite as it is and if we all vote NO we will just be digging our own graves, sure it aint easy but as time goes by it will soon feel like home when we settle, no one involved in the club is going to destroy it, they want what we do and its time people got behind it.

Jem could not agree more and the fact the club are using the players this way is wrong lets ask them who they want for chairman a true blue or a lying cheat like Kenwright, this vote is not about the next few years its going to change the history of the club and frankly I think the transfer saga has proved Billy & Bully could not run a piss up in a brewery

As long as this Board lead by Kenwright stay in control there is no other option but to move to Kirkby. They have no financial clout and have to rely on handouts from partners - it is simple as that. Kenwright won’t sell to new investor therefore the only chance of us getting a new stadium is to move to Kirkby - Kenwright will simply not relinquish control especially as Everton’s stock will shoot up considerably when they are ’handed’ a debt free stadium - After that point we might see him relinquish control and see some fresh investment. End of debate, simple as that.

Steve Callaghan:

Sorry mate you are totally wrong.Once the deal of exclusivity collapses you will see a barrage of interest in the market place.

Bestway is in a position to come on board as are many other investors. Before you knock them do a little research.

Vote NO for christ’s sake or Everton will enter into more uncertency than is imanigable.

Kirkby will be the death of Everton. VOTE NO.

Roy Coyne, I think you’re being very charitable to say that using the players and manager in the vote rhetoric was "wrong". I’ll take your objection a step-further, if you don’t mind: it was an absolute scandal! And it’s actually, ironically, been one of the few uniting factors between the "pro" and "anti" factions this summer with both sides acknowledging that this was an unsavoury move by the club. The first thing that struck me was that Phil Neville (the putative club captain) wasn’t amongst those players who were wading into the debate. I did a bit of digging and the information I got back was that Neville and, somewhat impressively, Hibbert were both asked and both gave it the widest swerve possible; probably just sensing (one coming at it from the perspective of his Mancunian heritage and the other a savvy Huyton boy) that this was no business of theirs. For what it’s worth, I immediately fired the following off to BK (lamely, despite what I go on to say, I still found myself defending him last night after I’d sank a few - old habits!)

Dear Bill,

You may know how much I?ve supported you over the years, often in the face of naked hostility towards me. I mean that.
Which is why it saddens me, deeply, to see the base media tactics you’ve presumably sanctioned in today?s Daily Post (and the ballot PDF).
Yes, you want to move to Kirkby, because you think it?s the best thing for Everton FC. Many, like me, simply don?t, because - viscerally - we think it will be the start of the death knell ringing for EFC. It will be several seasons before either one of us is proved right or wrong.
And of course, in a debate like this, it?s only natural that both sides air their views. In that light I commend you for the ballot.
But what I find utterly distasteful is the club now wheeling out David Moyes, Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill, Andy Johnson, Lee Carsley and Alan Stubbs to assist with the club?s line.
Frankly, what on earth has it to do with those six? They are merely passing - and damn well-paid - employees. One of them, we all know, wouldn?t think twice about remaining at a Kirkby-based Everton if the Manchester United job came knocking. Another, regardless of his contract, would be equally swift to depart the scene if Real Madrid or Barcelona showed an interest. Another has made it clear that when he retires he will reside again in Australia. Another is currently only on a one-year contract with the club and may not be here this time next year. Another on that list has only been here 12 months. Meanwhile the last on the list has already left the club once and, let’s not forget, instigated one of the most unseemly rows that EFC has ever been embroiled in.
You and I - not even Keith Wyness - are in this for the long haul (since April Fools? Day 1972, on my part) and as such we have a say.
Not the players nor the manager.
The fact that you?ve resorted to this low tactic just reeks of lording over us ?because I can?.
For example, I well recall that Walter Smith and Richard Gough were wheeled out last time. And where are they now? The players and the manager should have been protected. After all, when things go awry in the boardroom we constantly hear that the players ?pay no attention? to such matters.
So disappointed in you Bill. I really didn?t think you?d ever pull a stunt like this. I really thought you had more style.
For what it?s worth, and I doubt it will even register with you now: but when stalwart defenders like me (I even said yesterday that ?as much as I?m anti-Kirkby, I?m still pro-BK?) feel they can?t defend you any longer, then things have come to a very un-pretty pass.
Straight out of Peter Johnson?s top drawer. And I think you know it.

With sincere regards and in deep disappointment,

Greg Murphy

I cant help thinking that we’re fcuk’ed no matter what we decide. If we vote yes then i do think it will be detrimental to the support we get from within Liverpool, which will be a great shame as this is where we are from, on the other hand i do believe that we will get more support in the future from other catchment areas around Lancs etc. If we vote no then there is absolutly no doubt that we are going to fall even further behind ’the top four’ and even the lesser teams like Villa, Newcastle, Spurs et al. Think everyone knows we cant afford to build a new stadium or re-develop Goodison on our own, and i dont think we will get this kind of ’affordable’ offer again. Now i love Goodison, but it is barely fit to host top premiership games at the moment, not to mention what it is going to be like 10 years down the line. The proposed stadium in Kirkby doesnt exactly take your breath away, and i cant help thinking that if we really did have another option then 99.9% of the people would not think it fit for our great club, whether it was in Liverpool or not, after all Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, and that stadium certainly is not the best. However i think its the only option we have got, and i certainly dont think you can blame the current board for that, infact if anything they deserve some credit for coming up with this offer, the clubs financial problems go way back before BK! Its a tough decision for everyone with a vote to make, the future of our club is in our hands, i think we should all think very carefully!

Heres a plan lads, why dont we wait for the ballot, let everyone vote whatever they feel is right and then wait for the results! Getting tired of the same posts each day from people ’knowing’ what will happen if the vote goes one way or the other! Thank god the football starts soon!

P.s Im voting ’yes’
