Done Deal

Comments (45)

Story in all the pubs around Wigan tonight is that the Baines deal was completed at six o`clock. (Price £ 5.8M.) I looked on the Wigan web-site a few minutes ago and his name has been removed from their squad in which he was number 3. Looks like the announcement will be timed to coincide with mail-out of ballot forms. For Smith read Baines!

I’ve got good sources that Newcastle are the only team to have bid 6 million for him so far.

Newcastle’s bid for baines is dependent on the sale of dyer, as of yet that has not happend they have been unable to bid for baines.

Yeah right and this time last week we were all reading a comment from the guy who said Alan Smith was in a pub confirming his move to Everton.

Only Mr Moyes knows whats happening regardling transfer and unless I have a direct comment from Moyes I take all these rumors with a pinch of salt.

The Mail has direct quotes attributed to Bryan Robson, so unless they’ve completed fabricated him saying:

"I’m delighted. We’ve got a strike force now that ranks as the best in the Championship. It’s a signal of our intention to return to the top flight."

it would appear to be true, and will be officially announced tomorrow.

As for Baines - who knows, although Villareal have said that Newcastle have just bid for their left back Enrique, which would cast doubt on any Baines move by them.

If Strikers are anything to go by, Newcastle will want 15 left-backs, Blueheaven.

why do people make shit up on here? Im sick of it. Please fuck off with all this spouting absoutle crap. Baines is still on Wigan’s website....if he comes to us then great but he is still a Wigan player and on their fucking website as of now.

Kieran, settle down a little.

If you dont like what has been written, just take it with a pinch of salt.

Like you so rightly say, if he comes, great. If not, well, we will still be Blues. It really isnt important what people write or what you believe. TW Forum, what is now TPF use to have a few VERY well connected posters that would post news a few days prior to any hint of goings on inside Goodison. However, one by one they have all stopped posting BECAUSE of gobshites asking for sources and telling them to stop talking shit.

I dont have a clue who Carlton is, but if that’s what he heard, that’s what he heard. Take it or leave it. Enjoy your weekend.

I want Bines at Everton but I have got a feeling he’s going to end up at Newcastle..We are too slow doing deals..Ever thought maybe this is our good old reliable board again making a statement of what its going to be like if we dont move stadium?. What will next summer be like spending wise if we dont even get the prize money of finishing 6th?. and we dont sell platers worth 2.5 million ( Kilbane and Davies )? . Its going to be a right show next year.

All these Rumors about signings. That’s all we’ve seen all summer. It’ll be interesting to see if Baines plays at Leeds today and whether Beattie has traveled down to London with the Everton Squad. If they have both travelled, all the rumours are bollocks.

Having a bad day ? Jesus man, I’ve only just got up ! Have a good sleep Kieran, then when you wake up maybe we’ve concluded a few transfer dealings and beaten Palace. Or nothing has been concluded and Donny Rovers have beaten us to Baines and Beattie has signed for 4 more years, plus we’ve been tonked by Palace.

Either way, like Mike said may we all enjoy our weekend as this has been another shit week - nevermind, the season starts next weekend !!!!

I too did the tour of Wigan pubs and clubs last night and heard all the gossip that Baines was on his way.But with one small but vital difference...a fee HAD been agreed with Everton but the player WOULD NOT be able to talk terms with Everton until next week as Moyes is absent on compassionate leave.Meanwhile the door is open for Cuddly Sam to cast his spell....’anybody else want £60K a week?’
Kieran Doyle
14   Posted 04/08/2007 at 09:40:00

Live in Hong Kong Alan so my day is 7 hours ahead of yours! Think you are right though, I will go back to bed and when I wake up we have signed Ronaldhino, Henry and Deco. Or more likley it could be Moyes has signed Basil Brush and given him the 10 shirt! Boom Boom! Yeah bring on next week and lets get this thread bare squad absolutely knackered before the UEFA cup starts! Anyway, looking forward to it..!!!

Just heard on sky sports news that Everton are about to smash their trasnfer record???

As always the details have yet to be taliked about. It cannot be Baines because 5.8m is not our record, who the hell is it??? It is driving me crazy.

Story going round the pubs and clubs of Sheffield,is that Beattie is fucking shite!

22   Posted 04/08/2007 at 10:33:04

Just seen Lucho González on youtube, looks a really really good attacking midfielder.

Makes me weonder though if it is true (his agents says the deal will be done in next few days) what moyes thinking is. We so need a goalscorer and if we get baines and him = £16m, any money left for a striker???

Unless he is happy that the midfield will chip in with anough goals to support whatever Victor and AJ and MacFadden get??

As usual it is probably bullshit for the vote!!
Kieran Doyle
23   Posted 04/08/2007 at 10:57:07

Yeah just seen him on Youtube...crikey he looks the business. If we get him that would be a right shock! As you said Mark we do still need another quality striker. I see on the BBC website Beattie has agreed to go to Sheff Utd. He’s an utter waste of space I agree but if we dont get another striker in sharpish it may be worth keeping him until January?

My goodness, if it is true and we get two quality players on Monday. What will the anti-Moyes crying bastards have to moan about.
George
26   Posted 04/08/2007 at 11:44:15

Robert, I don’t think anybody is seriously blaming Moyes for our lack of transfer activity. After all he simply identifies his targets, it is principally up to the CEO to make any acquisition viable. What people seem to be most upset about is our dearth of funds which consequently has-so far, stop us purchasing the players needed to give us a better chance of successfully competing in four competitions next season.

Can anyone tell whats happening with are club am based in Iraq at the momement and all we get is little bits of info from time to time, have we bought anyone new or is the board still pleading poverty again, jags should be a rock solid player but we need a bit more flair on the left and up front.
Gavin
28   Posted 04/08/2007 at 13:06:21

Basically mate we have got rid of 4 players have brought in 2 so our squad is smaller than last season which is worrying considering we have a euro campaign as well as the EPL.

Moyes has sold beats it seems and no sign of a striker coming in so our striking options are looking thin. Its a worrying time at the moment.

Confrimed on SkySports News - Beattie definately gone to Shef U 4m.

Maybe the Baines deal is dependant on the funds from the Beattie sale?
Dan
30   Posted 04/08/2007 at 13:56:15

Man City bought four players in one day. The question is only do we have the money? I belive we do. Im sure we will have more players before the start of the season.

Valencia, Lyon and none other than Real Madrid are making bids for Lucho González - if we get him I’ll eat not only my hat but the entire Internet.

If the reports on the BBC website are correct it would appear that James Beattie is finally on his way.

Whatever you may have thought of his playing ability at least respect the fact that he was prepared to call a spade and spade and move on rather than warming the bench and just collecting his weekly pay packet.

I was excited as the next man when we signed for us but unfortunately it just hasn't worked out. My opinions have been hardening fast re dithering Dave and the rest of the muppets running this club but recouping £4 million is not to be sniffed at (providing we use it to get some more players in and quickly).

Tommy Coleman
34   Posted 04/08/2007 at 13:45:58

Well, its congrats to Moyes for getting up to £4.5m for Beattie, who in my opinion is the worst number 9 ever to don the shirt. Robson should stay off the booze.
James McCourt
35   Posted 04/08/2007 at 13:48:46

Now Beattie has finally gone, I'm made up with the price we got for him but I'm worried about our attacking options. Anyone got any ideas who we will sign to replace him or will we just stick with what we have?
Allan Barratt
36   Posted 04/08/2007 at 13:48:17

I'm pleased Beattie's left, good business anyway, £4 million for 29-year-old who's never fit. 2 goals last season & both from the spot speaks volumes.

It means we MUST have someone in the pipeline to replace him or DM & BK really are fucking stupid! Fingers crossed this Argie guy will come in. I'll be in tears if McFadden starts up front on the opening day, much prefer Big Vic any day.

Beattie gone.... Baines not playing against Leeds today... I think that may be saying something...I think he will be a Blue by early next week.
Barry Bragg
38   Posted 04/08/2007 at 14:55:29

Now that Beattie has gone can we reassign his squad number or do we have to start the season without a Number 9? Assuming we don't splash out in the last few weeks of the window on a new one that is.
Dutch Schaffaer
39   Posted 04/08/2007 at 16:50:23

Can anyone believe that we got £4.5 million for James Beattie????

You have to love drunken Bryan ’looney’ Robson.

I think Vaughan/Anichebe are too young for the No9, AJ may want to keep his number No8 and McFadden doesn’t have the talent to take it. So hang onto the No9 until Beattie’s eventual replacement is signed, whoever that may be.

I can see it now.We draw Sheff utd in the FA cup.And the fat twat gets a hat-trick against us,and puts us out.I wonder what odds I would get at the bookies for that to happen?

41   Posted 04/08/2007 at 18:29:19

According to the latest on Sky Sports news (which seems to be a lot more reliable than any other source for football info), Everton and Newcastle are in talks with Baines, with Everton slight favourites because of the players loyalties. Both have agreed the 6 million fee.
In all probability Newcastle will offer him around 20K more per week (as has happened in the past with Parker, Emre etc.At least we’ll see just how much being an Evertonian means with his final decision. Not to hopeful though.
Brian Waring
42   Posted 04/08/2007 at 19:36:23

Karl,"We’ll see just how much being an Evertonian means with his final decision"Karl mate,I have mentioned this a few times now.But Baines is not an Evertonian!!!He done an interview with fourfourtwo, and when asked who he supported,he said "as a lad I used to stand on the Kop,and watch my favourite player,Robbie Fowler"He also said he was devestated when he had to leave the Liverpool academy as a young lad.Funny thing is, I have found out that he spent a bit of time with us a kid,but he never once mentions that in his interview. So when he makes his choice,it won’t be because he supports us.Also,if Newcastle offer him 60k a week and we offered him 30k a week.I know where I would be going.
