Feel-good factor?

Comments (42)

All the rumours about signing Smith before the Kirkby vote to maximise the "feel-good factor" makes me laugh. And signing a left back hardly fills me full of optimism (that's if he actually signs!).

I can categorically say that I couldn't be any more disillusioned right now as an Everton fan and there is absolutely no feel good factor. I cannot see how anyone has any faith left in Kenwright and I'm praying everyone votes NO to Kirkby.

You lot want it both ways don’t you. First when we were supposed to be signing Smith it was a callous ploy to improve the feelgood factor before the vote and now that we haven’t they are incompetent and should be removed.
Make your mind up! It seems to me from your post that you believe everything rumour you read about potential signings etc. My advice would be don’t as it will only get your hopes up and end in dissappointment more often than not.

Here is the first test of your new resolve. Today’s daily post claims that Everton have bid £10m for Porto’s Argentine centre midfielder Luis Gonzalez who is Porto captain and played for Argentina at world cup and copa america. Can also play at right wing. Watch this space........or don’t ...as you see fit

Any chance of a link Barry? In any event, I don’t understand why everyone believes every rumour they read. It’s as if every single player we’ve been linked with is our top priority according to the correspondents on here.

Until we see a direct quote from Moyes, Kenwright or Wyness in relation to a player, just take it all with a pinch of salt. It’s been said before and it’ll be said again. We don’t know what they’re thinking.

The express has the same story. But they say he is on the verge of joining us.As you say, take it with a pinch of salt.I wiil believe it when I see him in that blue shirt.

As someone who lives in Portugal, I wouldn’t raise your hopes to high on the Gonzales rumour either.

Yesterdays’ Portuguese daily footy rag, Bola, had a story about Gonzales and Queresma (another Ronaldo ’wannabe’) both in negotiations with Real Madrid. But then... the Portuguese media is no different from the British tabloids when it comes to rumours and football’s silly season.

Go figure... as you rightly say Barry... believe what you want, or not, as the case may be.

According to a piece on him on wikipedia, they say his agent has confirmed that a move to us will happen in the next few days.Thing is I read that Inter were intrested as well. But this looks like it could be the sweetener for fans just before the vote.Still won’t change my mind though.

Newcastle have agreed a fee with Villareal for spanish left back Jose Enrique. Rumour has it that Mikel Silvestre is Sam’s 1st choice. The article has been taken from the Newcastle Chronical they are normally quiet accurate with all things Newcastle. We might have a chance of signing Baines now!!!

Here’s the link to the Portuguese paper:

www.abola.pt/nnh/index.asp?op=ver¬icia=125943&tema=5

Essentially, it reports the following:

"The online edition of the ’Mark’ is betting that Real Madrid signs Ricardo Quaresma (from Porto). It also reports that Lucho González continues to be in the plans of the "meringues" (a nickname for Real I have never heard before...?).

Usually very informed on affirs related to Real Madrid, the Mark reports that entrepreneur Jorge Mendes has already met with the sport director of the meringues, Mijatovic, increasing speculation that Ricardo Quaresma is interested in changing to the Spanish capital, having already rejected Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

As for Lucho González, he "has a lot of possibilities" to go to Real Madrid according to the "Mark", and that an agreement already exists between the Argentinean player and the Spanish club.

Naturally, the last word belongs to FC Porto..."

... or Everton, as the case may be. As I said, believe what you will. Personally, I don’t give any more weight to this report than I would a British tabloid, or Wikipedia for that matter.

Ah, but I read somewhere else that Silvestre is best mates with the lad Barton allegedly assaulted - see what I did there !

Anyway, apparently the booze fuelled Wigan folks say he’s already signed for us. Another (allegedly) booze fuelled bloke has confirmed Beattie has signed for him and his Blades - Soon to be underperforming in the Championship...

Alan, Silvestre has refused a move to Newcastle. Due to Barton. Dabo is Silvestre’s close friend. Newcastle had agreed a 6mill fee with Man Utd and where suprised when he rejected the move. Baines is actually sam’s 3rd choice. As he sees Baines as being to small for a left back.

Sorry Shaka, we’ve read the same article, except I forgot add the point that Barton was the reason Silvestre wouldn’t sign fot them. Although I seemed to reverse my point somehow but thanks for clearing up what was meant to be my point.

TBH I think he’s ours with them siging Enrique - but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Baines cover as a Left winger as he says it’s his defensive work he needs to work on.

I’m not sure why everyone is getting so worked about transfers or the lack off. Didn’t you see the Wyness interview with Sky Sports News couple of weeks ago? For those of you who missed it, here’s what he had to say: ’Some transfers develope very early, others develope very late, we’ll get the bodies in. We’re working behind the scenes and number of targets and are hope the deals will be completed, by the end of the January transfer window.’ Ooohh, Errmm, ok. I’ll leave now!!

Art,
Real Madrid are called the "meringues" by some beacuse of their all-white kit. It would be sweet if we could beat them to Gonzalez.
Or for that matter, beat any club to anyone.

Barry Bragg, my post is not about us not signing Smith, it’s the fact we haven’t signed anyone and are ill equipped to compete this year. Surely you must be filled with fear as well now Vaughan and Cahill are out injured?

Perhaps the next Toffeweb poll should ask: is our squad able compete in 4 competitions this year? I would be suprised if anyone votes yes.

I guessed as much Roger - thanks for the confirmation! Just amazed that I’d never heard them refered to as such.

I have not made ANY comment or speculation AT ALL about the transfer market this season. It has a habit of slapping you in the face.

But I can categorically say I personally have heard no rumours or suggestions emanating from here in Portugal that the lad is Goodison-bound, but he is one helluva player... very influential in Porto’s championship winning side last year, technically excellent (not merely good) with a good eye for a pass, fierce shooting boots and a good engine.

He would be a sweet signing indeed.

Sorry lads, i’ve got more bad news. Talks between Gonzalez and Everton have broken down, due to his excessive wage demands of 40k a week. Everton were only prepared to pay 1950’s wages of two shillings a week. As they can’t afford to pay the current market rates. With one shilling of that coming from the former players foundation. Blimey two shillinngs a week, that’s less then what those Bangladeshi workers get at Tescos. Terry Leahy would have been proud of that one!!

TOFFEEWEB NEWSFLASH: GONZALEZ SIGNS FOR NEWCASTLE AND IS ON 80K A WEEK SALARY..THE BASTARDS. DAMN YOU!!!

Tony Marsh - you sir, are an idiot.

Find the post you allege I made about ANY transfers this summer, in particular one in which I went ballistic and called you negative and a fool to make such statements so early in the day. You won’t find it.

You have a beef with me because I have gently taken the piss out of you with your infantile postings and in your very small mind you attribute words and events to people that never happened.

Of course, you consider you have free license to disparage the far more considered and intelligent views of others and when you can’t engage in them on the same level, you become abusive and your whole argument collapses into a pinball game of contradictions.

Carry on Tony - but don’t think for one moment your opinion is truly representative of the vast majority of the Everton family.

Sorry Matty, you’re right! Come on Everton, well done Kenwright for luring such big names in this summer and spending money on a squad that can compete in all four competitions.
Because Matty called me a twat, I can see us coping with any injuries now and lifting the Uefa cup at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Matty, it’s the name calling of fellow Evertonians that gives us a bad name. Also what are your hopes for the coming season?

26   Posted 04/08/2007 at 13:50:51

Well you have to take your hat off to Bryan Robson. He came out last week and said 'I want Beattie' and low and behold Beattie is now a Blade. Why is our transfer activity not conducted in this way?

Davey Moyes hasn't even confirmed Leighton Baines as a target yet. It seems to me that the powers that be at Everton are so determined to keep their cards close to their chest that they don't consider the possibility of the other chequebook-waving clubs swooping in and snapping up our targets. We keep hearing about 'initial enquiries' and the likes but by the time any firm interest is lodged, the player is having a medical at Newcastle or even Portsmouth.

I don't for the life of me see how it can be claimed that Everton can't afford to compete given the revenue generated by shirt sales, gate reciepts, television rights and investment. Moysey needs to keep us posted to stop narrow-minded fans losing patience with lack of transfer activity. COYB!

i cant figure out why the club would want to offer £10 million for gonzalez when we could have had fernandes for £8 million months ago ?

also both players are owned by the same dodgy geezer who owns tevez and mascherano !
if the fernandes deal was overcomplicated and overpriced , then surely the same can be said for any deal for gonzales ?

as for a feel good factor ?
well the clubs fans are ripping each other apart over a measly 4 miles stadium move.
our transfers are cheap un-ambitious and overcomplicated.
lastly with a week to go before kickoff , our squad is totally unprepared for the new season , key players look jaded and not many seem to be raising there game or performing too well .

momentum is lost and my optimism isnt too high at the moment in all honesty.

but then again a hot tranfer rumour or a big name signing is still a pretty shallow short term boost to the feel good factor.
the real feel good factor comes by winning games and is demolished by losing them.

roll on wigan , a good performance and a good win , and we shall see how we go from there.

FAO Anthony Newell:

Not Guilty... I repeat, I have not made ANY comment on our transfer dealings AT ALL this summer - speculative, derogative, sycophantic, whatever. I know it is a futile exercise. I’m waiting for the closing of the transfer window to evaluate how well or badly we’ve done.

The words you (wrongly) attribute to me emanate from somebody with the initials PA with Paul being his first name, if MY memory serves we well... I don’t wish to give his full because I don’t want to give the impression that I side with or against him for his comments.

Anthony Newell
34   Posted 04/08/2007 at 23:52:35

My problem with that being:

’The words you (wrongly) ATTRIBUTE to me emanate from somebody with the initials PA with Paul being his first name’

For the final time, I haven’t fucking ATTRIBUTED anything to you, I ASKED you if you said them, two different things completely ya soft sod

35   Posted 05/08/2007 at 00:15:26

By putting my name together with the comment you did is to strongly associate me with the sentiment, implicitly or by default.

Have fun with the semantics all you like... if you don’t like people replying to your comments, there’s an easy option available to you, Anthony.

You seem a bright lad. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.
Anthony Newell
36   Posted 05/08/2007 at 00:23:07

Yes, guilty on the ASSOCIATION front but I did not ATTRIBUTE the to comments you

ATTRIBUTE: to consider as made by the one indicated, esp. with strong evidence but in the absence of conclusive proof: to attribute a painting to an artist

ASSOCIATE: to connect or bring into relation, as thought, feeling, memory, etc.: Many people associate dark clouds with depression and gloom.

You wrongly accused me of ATTRIBUTING, just be a man, take it on the chin and admit you shouldn’t have!

Deary me... cutting and pasting online dictionaries at this time of night, trying to justify yourself? Your shoulder must be playing you up to keep you awake so late... try some ibufren. Not a chill pill, but it wouldn’t appear you have any of those in your medicine cabinet.

Appreciate you acknowledged your guilt. Maybe you "shouldn’t have" tried to associate my name with something that didn’t emanate from me and maybe you should - ehm - what’s the phrase again? - "take it on the chin like a man"

Do people really still say those sort of things outside of 1950s B&W movies...?

Fascinating... My chill pill has just kicked in and I feel myself floating off into the Sgt Pepper’s album cover with me mates...nighty-night.

You really are one hell of a jumped up, self-righteous prat. You come on here and castigate a fellow contributor (Mr Marsh) for linking you to comments you say never made then you go and accuse me of similar for daring to ask whether it was true. I wish everybody could be as perfect as you. You also to try to ridicule me for outdated language. Your just the sort of pompous fool, so removed from the fan on the street, that would lead us all off to Kirkby with not so much of a second thought. Yes I’m ’associating’ that with you as well ya bloody clown
Art Greeth
41   Posted 05/08/2007 at 10:45:21

Oh dear? not so ?chilled? now, are you Anthony. I wonder if you appreciate the irony of your postings?

Consider this: in this thread I made some apt, relevant and informative posts from Portugal about the possible signing of Gonzales. Tony Marsh jumped in, studs showing, on a totally unrelated issue, attributing to me words and attitudes I have not displayed EVER. To hell with what you think ? I had every right to reply to the infantile Mr Marsh. YOU ? not me ? YOU then chose to engage with me. Again, I had every right to reply which I did.

That you did not care for my response is self-evident. As you appear incapable of taking responsibility for your own words and actions, let me spell a few things out for you:
? in your first post to me, you asked a question, I answered it. You have since acknowledged that you associated my name with an opinion that was not mine. WHY, Anthony? What relevance did or does it have to the original topic? To me you were being sly or mischievous or both. Do I have to be a passive recipient of your deceptions?
? next, you tell me to take a ?chill pill?, implying that you are cool and laid back (yeah? right? our resulting exchanges rather belies that, doesn?t it Anthony?) and that I am being reactionary. Again, I answered that, as is my right. You come across as being smug and superior.
? by now, you are starting to lose that ?cool? veneer and you call me a soft sod. By doing so, you imply you are intellectually superior, but the playground insult suggests otherwise. Again, I playfully lob back an answer that has you scurrying to the back of the court.
? in you next response I am obviously getting to you now, but at least you are able to confess your original post falsely associated me with an opinion I haven?t offered. ?Take it like a man!? you tell me. Hilarious ? cyberspace Macho Man speaks. ?You shouldn?t have done it!? squeaks the mousier side of your personality. So the rules of the game are that YOU can say and post what you like, but I can?t?? Help me here, Anthony. I?m really not getting to grips with your double-standards.
? then your wobbling chin firms up and juts out and you take on a threatening, aggressive tone? ?Pal?. Again, hilarious.
? and finally, YOU accuse ME of being ?a jumped up, self-righteous prat? I wish everybody could be as perfect as you.? As I asked at the start of this post, do you do irony Anthony? Your closing comment is very interesting: ?Your just the sort of pompous fool, so removed from the fan on the street, that would lead us all off to Kirkby with not so much of a second thought. Yes I?m ?associating? that with you as well ya bloody clown?. Oo-er, missus? Again? does that reveal more about me? or? about you?

Anthony, you ? YOU! ? have allowed this to escalate. YOU have lost your cool. YOU have resorted to personal insults and threatening, aggressive behaviour. Of course, it is far easier to blame another rather than take responsibilities for your own words and actions. But I think you may have learnt by now, I am not easily cowered or silenced by angry rhetoric, least of all when it is littered with flawed and contradictory statements.

You have a nice day now? I am.
