Gonzalez? Bad Joke...
Comments (46)
I have posted comments before on this website asking for positivity amongst us fans but I have completley and utterly lost all faith and will to stand up for anyone running our club. The latest crap to be fed to the Echo is that we have made a £10 million bid for Lucho Gonzalez.
Previous "leaked stories" to soften the fans up have been tried and failed, ie. Smith, Barton etc, yet the club still think that giving us a story like this will keep us happy and think we're actually moving forward. NO CHANCE. Why on earth would Gonzalez, an Argentine international, sign for us given our "ambition"? Where are we getting £10 million from all of a sudden?? Is Beattie's sale more than we thought???
Is Gonzalez a better bet than Fernandes who we were told was too expensive at £8 million, even though Manny has Premiership experience and has proven to be a success with us. Why why why are we fed such garbage? I'm usually mild mannered and patient with our transfer dealing but my blood is boiling. We are a joke, plain and simple.
All the rubbish about moving our club forward with Uefa Cup football, not making the same mistakes as we did when we got Champions League is coming back to haunt us again. All summer the Echo told us that Alan Smith's favoured move was Goodison, so why is he a Barcode?? No bid? Not enough wages? But we can spend £10M on Gonzalez cos he'd obviously only want £10k a week. I was going to go to Selhurst today but now I'm going to go shopping with my girlfriend instead, at least she's honest with me about how much she has to spend.
Moysey, my sympathies

Check the line up for todays game vs Palace. We are fielding 11 players and 5 subs. At first I thought it was a 5 sub restriction but have just noticed Palace have 8. We are BADLY short on numbers. Notable absentees are Osman, VDM, Neville & McFadden - what’s up with them?
We need a replacement striker for Beattie ASAP, a left back and at least two midfielders.

More recently Michael Owen who was always going to go to Newcastle. Surely though, a striker now becomes a priority with only McFadden, Johnson and Anichebe to carry us through the season.
If this bid is true, the fans are yet again being taken for a ride.

This is really starting to annoy me to the point that i may not even watch the toffees this season.(maybe that is going a bit far)
Look at the season we qualified for the champions league we made no decent signings then the ones we did make didn’t really work so he’s gotta do somthing has’nt he?
PLEASE SAY YES

My first reaction to reading that was, one word. Fernandes. If we have that money, can we bring him back instead? I must admit, all summer, I have been on the old YouTube, watching Fernandez and thinking what might have been. I have now added Gonzalez to that list and I must say, I started dreaming. Dreaming of these type of players gracing the Goodison pitch. Flowing exciting football, goals that you always remember, special special moments...
Then I woke up, reality hits, we don't have two pennies to rub together, reality strikes, no Gonzalez, if you look at it with a tad of realism... Surely?!?
I can't always help but feel a bit let down. That is not the club's fault directly, they don't make journalists start this rubbish. I am an Evertonian, I have learn't not to get carried away with rumours, I have many a broken dream already... At least I thought I had...

Probably has the same validity as the Gonzales(who is he anyway?) rumour but then again everybody believes the one about the 2nd gunman on the grassy knol!!
By the way what happened to this French wonderkid we’ve had on Trial ?

Benitez wouldn’t buy either of those because they wouldn’t sign for him he’s tried once before and got told to do one.
If you consider £35 mil for the pair cheap then you must be lord lucan!!
19 Posted 04/08/2007 at 16:44:22
Just imagine if Everton fielded a team with Jagielka, Pienaar, Baines and Gonzalez on the opening day, that would be the best summer transfer season ever.
There really is no pleasing some people.
20 Posted 04/08/2007 at 16:51:10
If we had 10 million, we would have bought manny, smith, baines etc.
Seriously, grow up.
21 Posted 04/08/2007 at 17:03:10
They’ve now turned their attention to Manuel Aguas,a 18 year old midfielder who’s available to go on out on loan.Never heard of him-and I live here!

I always found it very odd, every Premiership team has all this money but apparently not Everton, something didn’t compute there.
Now it looks like Everton have actually got the money but Moyes, like he promised, is making sure that its not wasted.
Of course the idea that the money is there and the manager is just being extra careful to spend it wisely is to simple for some fans.
Far easier to assume that the money has been pocketed by Kenwright and the board. Its much more exciting to dream up some giant scam in which Everton have been screwed.
Ask yourself this, whats more likely, the money has been stolen by the board or that the money is there ready and waiting for the always careful Moyes to decide which players will be most beneficial to Everton?
If we start the season with Jagielka, Pienaar, Vogel, Baines and Gonzalez will some of you be big enough to offer Moyes/Kenwright an apology?

Same old shit every summer, the fact remains we are 1/2 injuries from a very bad season when you consider how many other teams have improved their squads with quality.
We have very little money and had to wait for beattie to get Baines (if we do get him), and i cannot sea any more signings after Baines (again if we get him).
28 Posted 04/08/2007 at 17:58:19
The Daily Mail and The Daily Express are the ones who first ran with it this morning, in almost full page articles.
The club haven’t commented.
Porto officials have confirmed our interest and Gonzales agent confirmed our interest on 5 Live.
It would be nice if people got their facts straight before doing their usual rants.
29 Posted 04/08/2007 at 18:38:02
They really are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. The moment Baines/Gonzalez/anyone at all signs, all of the moaners on here will be on here complaining that we’ve paid over the odds.
Jesus wept.

The bid has been made, yes we probably wont sign him but i dont think its a bluff...if they accept it and then we cant stump up the money moyes and kenwright will be left looking like complete muppets to everyone...i believe the money is there but i dont believe gonzalez will sign for us. It would be an amazing signing if we pulled it off, his game is perfectley suited to the premiership, he has a phenomenal work rate, likes to get stuck in and has great skill and an absolute BULLET of a shot.

Moyes started to summer intending to buy the likes of Koumas, Richardson, Nugent etc for fees of around £3m and expected to add 5 or 6 players in this way and then add on a couple of loans/free transfers. As it happened the £3m player appears to have become a thing of the past. Moyes instead decided to cut his losses and when he became aware that Gonzalez was interested in a Premiership move he went after him with the sizeable remaining transfer budget.
Given that we’ve brought in £5m and spent just £4m as of yet. The signings of Baines and Gonzalez would mean we had spent approximately (allowing for spread payments and add-ons) a total of £15m. This is roughly what many expected our transfer budget to be at the start of the summer
Why Moyes declined to persue Fernandes is anybody’s guess. Maybe he thinks Gonzalez is better, maybe the third-party owner was obstructive, maybe he simply feels Manny can’t stand the pace and work rate of the Premiership.
I’m not saying that I 100% believe the Gonzalez story... but I’d hope many would admit that the above explanation makes more sense than allegations of us having a transfer budget of approximately £5m.

This isonce again a poor attempt at trying to bluff us evertonians.
we dont have that money, and if we did, ive only got to mention one name ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’ ’FERNANDES’
35 Posted 04/08/2007 at 20:37:54
I generally have a lot of faith in Moyes and I’m not naive enough to think I have the solution to Everton’s problems. Except in this case - how f*cking stupid do you have to be to not see that Fernandes would be brilliant for us, and for only 3million more than Kieran f*cking Richardson?
Then there is the striker issue, which is more important than Baines in my view, despite how much I rate the lad when you consider Lescott and Neville can play there as well (anything to get Neville out of midfield). Good luck to Moyes finding a decent forward for a realistic price. Give Big Dunc a call.
36 Posted 04/08/2007 at 21:36:02
if we have the money the deal is looking quite possible.

I am still doubtful and until I see a picture on the OS with them holding a scarf over their heads remain so.
These signings would be better than I would have expected at the start of the window. Of the links we have with players in the press,I have not on one occassion been exited. I thought Smith would have been an imnprovement on Beatie but who wouldn’t. However Nugent, Richardson and Koumas are in my opinion top class cgampionship players average at best premiership. I know we are supposed to be desperate for new blood but I am not that desperate. Who would honestly look at these players and say they could improve our first team, they would be backup at most and at ridiculous prices.Richardson and Koumas togethetr would be 11 million the same as for this lad Gonzalez. One player rather than two one wage rather than two but. A player who would raise the profile of the club and improve the first team.
Others have banged the drum for Manny, however I was not that impressed except for the odd cameo such as against Arsenal. Maybe just maybe Moye’s feels the same and just does not want him after seeing him training and playing. Moye’s likes hard work Arteta has skill but also works hard, could Manny do the same maybe not. It would apear that this Gonzalez has the skill and works as well so fits the bill.
If at the end of the day we do sign tham great, if not I will be as sick as a pig unless equal quality arrives. Here’s hoping that things do happen in the next 27 days and that it takes this club forward to were we belive we belong.

In this world however when it goes tits up you end up as Leeds Utd.
We do need extra bodies however it would appear that we are going to have HOPEFULLY the same number of players as last year. The difference being one is not Italian and injured all season, one is not Scottish allegedly plays in the same position as the Italian and was injured all last season. One is not a goal keeper who apparently has myopia. Whilst finally one is not a striker who to be honest probably didn’t score any passed the said keeper in training
So IF the signings happen we have kept the same numbers however the quality has improved. Steady if not massive progress but progress none the less.

Another reason why Gonzalez is a good "pretend" transfer target is because even if he does decide to come to goodison the transfer will buckle due to the fact he is signed up to MSI and we would have to go through all the bullshit that is associated with multiple owners...a perfect reason for everton to pull out of the deal !!!
