James Beattie

Comments (13)

Right, let me get this straight. We are a week away from the start of the season and we have just sold James Beattie for £4M. James Vaughan is out for at least 3 months. Anichebe and Johnson are therefore our first choice strikers. Financially we have spent fuck all money as Beattie has been swapped for Jagielka. We are down on numbers because we have let Fernandez and Naysmith go. We have the second smallest squad in the league and are in Europe this season. WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS GOING ON?!!!

WTF is Kenwright playing at? We now need a striker, midfielder, left-back and a host of other players to beef up the squad. Who is the new striker going to be? Nugent has gone to Portsmouth (and has scored on his debut might I add) ... why did we not bite the bullet and sign him if Moyes intended on selling Beattie? As for Gonzalez, pull the other one. Complete utter bollocks not least 'cos we need a bloody striker not a midfielder as priority! KENWRIGHT OUT!

Can anyone really see Everton paying 11 million on ANY player?.. And if they did do this for Gonzalez, why not Fernandes?. Signing regular first team strikers is something of a phobia at Everton..I wouldnt be holding my breath on seeing a Beattie replacement..I think we are almost certain to stick with 4-5-1 again at least to begin with..Even Shef U can spend more money than Everton..Effectively Everton have spent zero this summer..Its a shocking disgrace

Honestly guys I do not know why you should be so frustrated. Buying a striker is just not a "deliverable" option for Everton. We need to have a look in the No frills section of the fucking league. Baines will probably be scratching his head wondering what the f@ck we re playing at. What a laughing stock the board has made us become.
I still think we will be alright for the first quarter of the season, we have a good group of lads there, but the board are doing us absoltely no favours whatsoever. Fernandes was a prime example of things to come for us at the end of last season. A quality player, young, hungry to play and we will not stump up £8m quid for a portugee international.

Does anybody know what odds I can get for BK & KW being out by the end of the season???

This is turning out to be a bad summer in the transfer market in terms of acquisitions...We’ve let all our targets get away!

As much as I would like to see Baines, and Gonzalez siging for Everton I can see Baines going to Newcastle as they will probably offer him more money, and Gonzalez will probably go else where as Valencia and Juventus are both rumoured to be in for him. Then we will get Bill Kenwright saying we tried our best. Its starting to make us look a laughing stock.

The trouble is - to see BK & KW go there needs to be somebody to step into the breach and that somebody is not there.

As much as I’d love to see someone with some real money in the chairmans seat, there isn’t anyone as yet.

The reason no ones in for us is in a word Kenwright so unless we put some sort of pressure on him nothing will change,It matters not where we play goodison or Kirkby with Billy liar leading us we are a joke just a thought now there are no assets to sell may be he will start on the players ala Rooney covering his own back of course

"This is turning out to be a bad summer in the transfer market in terms of acquisitions...We?ve let all our targets get away!"

Really. As far as I could tell, we’ve let some of the targets which have been linked for years but the media get away, but none that Moyes has come out and explicitly said that he wanted. The level of complaining on this site is ridiculous.

For the last year, everyone has slagged off Beattie, but now he’s gone he’s become indispensable. Naysmith, Wright and Pistone played about 90 minutes between them last year. They’re no big loss.

We might have one of the smallest squads in the leagues, but we also have one of the most settled with a terrific team spirit. When you consider that several of Vaughan, Anichebe, Valente, Johnson, McFadden, Cahill, Hibbert and Van der Meyde were all missing for large portions of last season, then ’just’ Cahill and Vaughan being out doesn’t seem that bad.

If we pick up Baines then we have two good left backs. If we pick up Gonzalez then we will seem to have made a superb acquisition. I realise that ’ifs’ and ’buts’ are meaningless, but mine are no more meaningless than you lot going on about ’if’ we get more injuries or ’if’ we don’t make any more signings. Just be patient and see what happens.

Shez,

Moyes makes the footballing decisions - who stays, who goes etc.

Why Kenwright out in this instance ?
Beattie was a waste of £30 a week. Any serious offer for him had to be taken. Agree ?

I won’t miss JB as he offered nothing as a starting player and even less as a substitute, getting any money for him is good business; who wants a striker who hasn’t scored from open play for so long? Other players that have gone such as Naysmith, Pistone and Wright were all also poor even given Naysmith a semi useless bench warmer emergency left back sub.

Tim, it’s how your levels of optimism or pessimism are portrayed with what if scenarios but it’s not doom mongering to acknowledge the loss of three players in Yobo, Pienaar and Anichebe during the African Nations Cup and given the paucity of some of our player’s tackling ability to expect suspensions at some point and injuries; we have already lost two players before a ball has been kicked in anger, even a conservative bet would see at least one more injury during the season just how would that effect the team’s ability should that injury be Arteta or AJ? Yes what if but not beyond the bounds of possibility.

With regard to the African Nations Cup, I believe that Moyes will look to make some signings, permanent or loan, during the January transfer window. He clearly values having a smaller squad, so why have a bigger one soaking up more wages for any longer than is strictly necessary.

Tim not saying having a tightly knit squad hasn’t helped but how small is safe given a European campaign and maintaining a decent league position to guarantee enough income to keep the banks happy and dare I say having a proper crack at any of the cup competitions? DM has also stated on record before that he doesn’t like the January transfer window, this doesn’t mean he won’t use it but it’s a lot shorter than the summer window and not a lot has happened in a bigger timespan.

Tim - why not wait til January? because by my reckoning it will be necessary by the end of September.
Selling JB changes nowt - we struggled to score goals last season and we will struggle this without a new forward, not another bloody left back.
Just a thought - Newcastle having reunited Smith and Viduka might have somebody surplus. Any clubs with a number 10 shirt begging....?
