Joy at last!

Finally we have improved our squad simply by getting rid of Beattie. The fact that we actually got paid for him is unbelievable but fantastic for us, thank you very much Mr Robson.

I'm not bothered about us losing out on Smith either, Newcastle always overpay their players and always end up with a collection of misfitted mercenaries. He doesn't have any pace and if Moyes has learnt anything from the disaster of Beattie it must be that your strikers need pace.

Anyway I'm just ecstatic that we won't have to play with 10 men next season... well done Everton for a fantastic bit of business!

Agreed!

And what about that news of Lucho Gonzalez!!! What a signing he’d be - it’s almost unreal that we’re so strongly linked with him! :D

Anichebe, McFadden and Johnson.Thats what we’re left with going into a new season. How do we replace Beattie with 4 million? Theres no doubt he had a poor season last year, but surely the point is that we should be signing a replacement (with one week to go to the first game) before selling him. What if Johnson is injured in training and McFadden breaks down? (he was still injured today).
Its incompetent for a club in four competitions as far as I can see.

I wouldnt get too excited about this Gonzalez thing, as far as I can see its another Dirk Kuyt/Michael Owen stunt from 2 years ago..Juventus are in for him..What if Beattie could have recaptured his form of 2 seasons ago?. When he scored 11 goals and he had a great run in the early part of last year..We are left with just three strikers..One of them a young lad who is still feeling his way in and McFadden who is so hit and miss and has never in his 4 years at Everton suggested being a regular goal scorer..Even AJ has had his injury problems over the last few years...Your right..It is incompetant for a club in FOUR competitions..

I’m a Newcastle fan, but have no gripe at all with Everton; I think they’re a good side with a good manager and I wish them well.

However, to call Smith a mercenary who only turned Everton down because Newcastle offered him a bigger wage is total rubbish! The last thing Smudger is is a mercenery - just ask Man Utd and Leeds Fans if you’re in any doubt! None of the players Allardyce has brought in are in that mould - although I totally agree Newcastle have been totally guilty of it in the past.

Most if not all Allardyce’s signings have send the same things - they’ve signed for Newcastle because of Big Sam being manager, the potetnial for us to be European giants and because of the fans. That’s not me making things up or me trying to start an argument but it’s what they’ve all said. That’s a fact.

"Finally we have improved our squad simply by getting rid of Beattie" .......

Can’t fathom out how getting rid of a player improves the squad, no matter how dire Beattie has been.

Apart from Moyes’s second season when we had Ferguson, Rooney, Radzinski and O’Bride, we’ve always been short of forwards.

This season looks like being no exception. Looks like we’ll be going for those nailbiting 1-0 wins again!

John, I wouldnt take too much notice over what footballers say when they join a new club. They’re trained by media experts these days to say what the fans want to hear. Thats all part of the spin. Strip away all the crap and its all down to the green stuff.
The truth is Newcastle are one of those clubs that continue to pay comparably big wages consistantly for very little return, and their players are little more than mercenaries in a comfort zone.

John, I think some people see Smith as having just gone to Newcastle for the wages and nothing more. Whether that’s true or not, who am I to know? I’m not his biggest fan though and I suspect that without the protection of THAT red shirt and Fergy screaming at refs, Smith may well have to curb his enthusiasm in the tackle or he’ll end up getting booked more often than not. I suppose we’re a bit miffed that every player we seem to have an interest in (at least in the gossip columns!), ends up going elsewhere. I can see the attraction of big Sam and the Toon, my next door neighbour is an ardent Newcastle fan and we have some fairly interesting chats about footy. Good luck to you too for the new season, except of course, against the Blues.

I think John is right here folks. Before Newcastle showed an intrest in Smith,Boro offered him a deal for 60k a week, which was reported on sky sports. He turned it down because he didn’t want to play for Boro.If he was one of these mercenaries, wouldn’t he have joined them?

The ttraction of Newcastle and fat sam????. The bloke is a tosser, loud mouth and a crook and plays boring football. Wheres the attraction there? Smith went for more money simple. There is no better prospects of winning silverwear playing for the toon. As for this rubbish about Gonzalez, do the Papers, EFC or other media voices think we are all muppets? If we cant attract players like smith (for whatever reason) then why would a supposedly top south american, playing in for a top portuguese side want to come and join us? I for one will run around the pitch at Goodison NAKED if moyes makes this signing.

Too many times have I got my hopes up only to come crashing down again this has all the hallmarks of the Ferguson bid when he was on his way to rangers.the Smith bid when going to utd and to many more to mention but selling Beattie before getting a replacement is fool hardy to say the least

With regard to ’Beatts’ It’s a bit like the tired, cracked and heavy paving flags in my garden. I was wondering how the fuck I was going to get rid of them without much effort and expense. In the end I advertised them on Ebay and somebody came, spent an hour digging them up and took them away plus gave me £21 cash. I was left with the distinct feeling that I should have really been paying them for the privilege!
