Ins and Outs

So Moyes feels the need for yet more defenders. We have Vaughan, AJ and Anichebe up front (now that Beattie has moved on) and we intend to spend our small pile of pennies on defenders. Strikes me Moyes can spot a good defender at 5,000 paces — he was one! — but wouldn't know a decent striker if he smacked him. I spy with my little eye something beginning with A *mdash; Another season scoring f**k all goals!!

You’re right - Moyes’ lack of activity in the striker department makes no sense given that he’s just sold Beattie and Vaughan is injured again. That basically leaves AJ with (inexperienced) Anichebe and (inconsistent) McFadden as our front line. Doesn’t fill you with confidence, does it?!

I still believe that Everton’s first XI will be competitive in the Premier League and that we can have a good season, but there is no strength in depth - particularly from an attacking point of view. If we get a couple of injuries to key players, we could be screwed. Say Arteta was out for the season? I shudder at the thought...

Well in fairness we could use a left back and Baines is one of the best about / available. Very disappointing about the lack of a new striker though, especially with Smith having just gone to Newcastle. I thought he was a home banker. Hopefully davie’s got something up his sleeve. Michael Owen perhaps :-) Oh no I didn’t!

To be honest I know this may even sound criminal but Robbie Fowler was going as a free agent, even he would have done as a squad player for a season..At least he is and out and out striker and wouldnt have cost anything. Moyes tried to get Andy Cole in January when we still had Beattie at the club and Vaughan was almost fit too but surely that tells us that Moyes knew then we needed striking options..Surely now we need them ten times more than January.

As soon as I heard about Cole being released, my heart sank - just an image us relying on him next season alongside AJ...

What about the guy we got from Swindon? Remember him scoring in a friendly, but is he not a 1st teamer yet?...

Reckon we should go for Archie Thomson from here in Melbourne - the guy knocked in 5 in the league final and impressed Hiddink enough whilst he was managing the National side to take him to PSV (ok, he did nothing there, but still). Would be relatively cheap, fast as you like and can finish...

I’m sorry but Archie is too old a name to be considered for our forward thinking club!
