When is £11 million not £11 million?

Answer: When you make a bid for a player jointly owned by MSI (Tevez fame) and Porto! Something had to be dodgy about out our tenuous link with this undoubted quality player Gonzalez. My guess is that it will come off, we will get him for a season ( for a £2m outlay), he'll be a massive hit then get packed off to Man U and we will end up with a points deduction and massive fine for signing the guy in the first place! Oh the joys of being an Evertonian (see http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=370251 for the MSI kink...)

somehow i dont think the club would be stupid enough to make the same mistake west ham did...
i do believe that he could join for a season or two and then be shipped of to someone else. build up his profile in the premiership abit more and then get double your money next season [provided he plays well]

Stop being so negative and appreciate the fact we’ve seemingly made a whopping bid for a whopping player - which is what you’ve all been screaming for all summer.
Damned if you do and damned if you don’t if you’re Kenwright at the moment.
Is it possible - just possible - we’ve been working behind the scenes and wrapping up some really good signings?
Kenwright promised money, Moyes promised signings. If the promises are met before the window shuts, i’ll be a happy Evertonian.

It’s just that we’veseen it all before Lee,spurious ’bids’ for players that are already linked to other big clubs and we have no hope of getting just so Billy Bullshit can look as though he’s doing something.

Lee explain this for me and others please, how do the club bid £11m for a player when they can’t find £1m for Vogel or £6m for Alan Smith or £6m for Baines or £8m for Fernandes is too expensive? Explain for a few of us how the former bids for Alan Shearer, Alan Smith (pre Man U), Dirk Kuyt and Michael Owen were about? It’s all bullshit not so cleverly orchestrated by a charlatan who has a publicised and proven track record of deceit in order to maintain his position at the club to appease and con paying supporters into continued support. How many times? Honestly!
How about these ideas:
We never wanted Smith, so we didn’t have to find that £6m?
We’re trying to test Wigan’s nerve and get Baines for £5m, rather than just offering them £6m straight away?
We haven’t bought Vogel, because he was considered worth a punt on a free but the money could be better spent elsewhere?
Could Fernandes possibly have had a shit attitude on the training ground? I haven’t seen many other clubs rushing to Porto to get him.
We have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. No idea at all, so you all need to stop pretending that you do. It’s all just so much speculation.

Tim fair play on speculation but even Pravda said Fernandes attitude at Bellfield was exemplary as was his relationship with the other players, clubs rushing in for him could have something to do with dual ownership but then again if the RS can "get away with it" as can West Ham and v soon Man U then that too has to make you think surely?

I’m yet to believe that we have actually made this’whopping’ bid to be honest..Why is it not on the official website?..BBC sport have got a lot wrong regarding Everton’s transfer targets..There is no way they are going to shell out that much on a player..

Anyone see the lead picture on Teamtalk’s paper talk section over the last 24 hours - he’s wearing gloves while playing in Portugal. He’d love the winter here! I mentioned in another response, but i’d think Pienaar has far better chance of settling in the EPL than Lucho so how does a club in our position think we can’t risk £2.5m without a season long loan yet £11m is an acceptable gamble? Strange.

Nobody at Everton has said we bid £11M for Gonzales or settled on a fee of £5.8M for Baines. However ,I do believe there is every chance that both these top quality players may be in our team next Saturday.Just show a little faith in our excellent chairman and manager.Please.

What about his wages?Surely he is going to want a huge pay packet? But,at the end of the day,I think it’s just another Michael Owen situation.

Dicky if your beloved Chairman Bill fails I suggest you stand outside the Winslow with a huge bell offering drinks to all the supporters who don’t believe in him or you and to keep them happy for half an hour buy them all an apologetic pint...plus I’d love to see just what you look like as I walk past on the way to the Park End

Ericson has gone in with 10M for Fernandes. Now if we’ve got that kinda wonga supposedly burning a whole in Bill’s pocket, I’m sure Manny would prefer to come back to us. Suppose DM will say he exceeds his and Bill’s valuation.

No way are we going to pay 11 million for a player with no PL experience. If we had that money, we could have had Manny, who has shown his class, and seems to have already gotten on well during his time in a blue shirt.
This story is a fabrication, that has been picked up by some major websites to fill some inches, lending some credence to what is surely tripe.
I’m not sure its even a BK stunt, reading the "articles" There’s no quotes from Porto, Everton, Gonzo or even his (undoubtedly) slimeball agents, and if even the agents are quiet.... No smoke, no fire, no bacon

The only people who have said "Everton don’t have enough money to buy players" are the fans and rumours.
Moyes/the board didn’t WANT to spend £6m on Smith or £8m on Nugent etc. as they did not rate them as that. Equally, the board may have thought they weren’t the right players for the team - especially at overblown prices.
No, I don’t have Moyes’ ear or know what the board are thinking but a lot of information being banded around as fact is actual NOT TRUE.

I do think there is some truth in the Gonzalez story.Everton wanted to extend Manny’s loan but Jorbachian has the chance to flog him to Sven.So he’s offered Gonzo as a loan replacement.
I think the only real money we’ll spend will be on Baines who deffo wants to come here.So Doddy could be right!

I agree wholeheartedly with Tony Hawkins, the only people who have said Everton have no money to spend is the fans. I think its about time he showed that we mean business by the signing of at least 1 high profile player (if it happens). Even though this would be a fantastic signing it needs to be followed up by at least a few more, one to improve squad numbers and two to make the fans feel a lot safer before the start of the season. Jerome Thomas might not be everyones cup of tea but its still one more body to add to a small squad.

As an aside, it may be significant that this deal has only come out after the Tevez deal was apparently resolved - we could have been after him all summer but waiting on developments before making a bid.
Its also worth remembering that Gonzalez isnt under the same deal as Tevez was - apparently Porto own half of him, which is what we are trying to pay them the 11 million for.

I’ll buy you a pint anytime,Gavin, but not by way of apology.I was told way back Davey had £10 mil net to spend in this transfer market. If the players fail to arrive it will only be because they CHOOSE to go elsewhere not because the club hasn’t tried to spend the money.

Mark. your comment about pienaar being able to fit into the premiership is pretty laughable. im guessing you dont really know anything about either player. pienaar is very lightweight with not much strength, infact he was deemed to lightweight for the bundesliga which isnt half as physical as the premiership.
lucho gonzalez on the other hand is known to like a scrap, gets stuck in, has great strength as well as technical ability...his game is perfectley suited to the premiership and he is a considerably more complete and world class player than Pienaar.

Pienaar can play a bit though Dave, I saw him a few times at Ajax and the kid knows what he’s doing - did pretty well in the Champions League when I saw him play. Lets also not forget that Ossie aint exactly built like a cruiserweight boxer!

I predict we shall get Baines,a big-name midfielder on loan and sign a goalscorer.Moyes operates well as the window closes so we may have to wait two or three weeks for the action to unwind.IMWT!

Richard thanks for the pint offer, two things if you were told we had £10m net to spend care to name your source as you are often right and second if it is £10m net how do we get to buy Baines and anyone else as Beattie will have cancelled out Jagielka purchase then £1m for Naysmith and a guess of £20k ish a week for Baines would mean a spend of £6m (5.8 is near enough 6) with £1m to cover one year wage leaves about £5m, how do we buy an £11m player for £5m? Even by BK standards that’s some never never payment
