Fernandes City Bound
Comments (8)
Just read the rumour that Man City are about to bid 10mil for Manuel Fernandes. With Spend-Goran buying every player under the sun, it looks like our faint hope of him coming back this season on loan or otherwise, look pretty dead.
If only we had 10 Mil to spend on a player, oh wait, we've put a bid in for someone who obviously not going to come to us.

Rumour has it eh...
Everton are confident they will make progress in their chase for Wigan defender Leighton Baines in the next few days.
Talks have been ongoing over the weekend, and the Merseysiders are edging closer to completing a near-£6million deal for the England Under-21 full-back.
There is competition from Newcastle, but the Toffees believe that the player’s long-term support of the club will swing the deal their way.
Having sold James Beattie to Sheffield United for £4million, the club are looking to further add to their squad. But there has been no confirmation from the club of a move for Porto’s Argentinian midfielder Luis Gonzalez.
The 26 year-old, skipper of the Portuguese champions and a member of the Argentina side in the last World Cup and recent Copa America, was linked with Everton at the weekend.

It appears as though Moyes has around £15 million to spend on transfers and just felt that using £11 million of that on Fernandes was a gamble he wasn’t willing to take.
As I’ve said before as good as Fernandes looked at times he never once during his loan spell won man-of-the-match or completely ran a game.
Harry Redknapp also decided against spending big on Fernandes after his loan at Portsmouth and Harry certainly isn’t shy when it comes to transfers.
Moyes has clearly decided to spend his budget on other targets, possibly Gonzalez and hopefully Baines.
Fernandes has the potential to come back and haunt us but £11 million is alot of money to spend on potential especially to Everton.

Very true Dutch. We all knew the figure was around 15m. We knew this from the end of May. What was spent on Jagielka was made back on Beattie plus the 1m for Naysmith. This actualy gives us an extra million. 5m for Baines and 11m for Gonalez is the money spent.

Dutch..For Gods sake lad Fernandes is only 20 years old give him chance..Lets see what people will say should Fernandes go to City and set the place alight..We definetly need a creative midfielder to ease the burden on Arteta, I keep hearing people say Osman but he just isnt good enough for my liking..He has neither the pace power or vision required to take on that mantel..Gonzalez?? I will believe that when I see it which incidently I dont expect to..We need three more players at least but with our track record we’ll do well to capture Baines alone.

Ray your forgetting Steven Pienaar, who may just be the creative player able to take the pressure off Arteta.
Anyway my point isn’t that Fernandes is not good enough, I accept he’s a good player and could become great.
But at the present moment he’s not an £11 million player and Moyes understandibly will not spend his entire transfer budget on a player who could be worth that amount in a few years.
Everton need a match winner now. This Gonzalez could be just that if Moyes can convince him to join Everton.

Dutch even if the bid was true which is bollocks, even Dicky Dodd thinks this, then why would a world class player choose Everton a potless joke of a club mismanaged at the highest order (currently) over Real Madrid or a host of other teams that would offer significantly more wedge and champions league football? Are you sure you didn’t put your Roy Orbison glasses on instead of your rose tinted ones?

I will judge Pienaar when I see him play..He could be the next Arteta or he could be nothing more than Osman..Apparently he is not a winger but more in the mould of Arteta, whether he can become anywhere near as good as Mikel that will not be known for a long time but if he can help us out somewhat Im not complaining..We want a midfielder next to Arteta who can play a bit and from what Ive seen Pienaar can..Can he do it in the Premiership?. Lets find out..We are all desperatly hoping so, not just for SP but for our own need of improvement.
