The Mail Bag

Number 9...?

Now Beattie has been shipped out to Sheffield, it leaves our number 9 shirt open. I know it's a prestigius number that is usually given to experienced players, but rather than save it for a (probably fictitous) incoming striker, I would like to see it handed to young James Vaughan as a boost for him to reclaim his fitness. From what I have seen of him so far he has the potential and desire to fill it in a way that man-tits never could!

since this seasons squad numbers have been anounced i dont think JV will get it, this means it will either be given to a new arrival or we wont have one. when was the last time we started a season without a number 9?

I so hope we dont make a rash buy of someone like Jason Roberts in an attempt to fill the beattie shaped void...

I have to wish Beattie good luck at Sheffield Utd and hopefully other fans will join me. We knew what he could do when he arrived as our biggest signing and to most fans dissapointment, it didn't work out. From what I could see he hasn't criticised Everton were some players may have had a pop at a former club. A professional and respect is due for his hard work even if we didnt see the 20 goals a season we were hoping for. If he returns in 2008-09 season with Sheffield Utd then I will be the first to give him a warm welcome.
