Have we got better in reserve?

With the non-activity in the transfer market, is it time to blood the likes of Spencer, Vidarsson, Kissock, etc? I would like to see these players given a chance. James Vaughan was given a chance and has turned out to be a diamond. There's enough old heads to guide them through games.

I watched young Bjarni against Palace. And to tell you the truth he was knocked off the ball to easily for my liking, and Lucas came on later on,and to me he just didn’t look like he was ready to step up to the first team yet.I now it was only one game. But,you know when you have that feeling when you watch someone.I don’t think it could do them any harm to be out on loan for the season. And have a look at them again next year.I’ve just realised!!! they have been included in the first team squad.I just hope we don’t have to call on them.

Just heard that Gonzalez is not playing for Porto tonight, maybe something in it after all.

I would imagine the likes of Spencer, Kissock, Agard, Molyneux, Morrison, Spencer, Phelan & Rodwell will spend the season in the reserves or on-loan as they continue their development.

But Bjarni Vidarsson, Patrick Boyle and Lucas Jutkiewicz are listed as squad members and with such a small squad they will be expected to play some part.

If no strikers are signed before the end of the month then Johnson, Anichebe and McFadden will be the only fit forwards available so Jutkiewicz (who is ahead of Spencer because of his Swindon experience) may find himself on the bench and possibly making his debut quicker then he could have dreamed.

Both Vidarsson and Boyle are at an age where they will want to start making an impact on the first team. If they are not good enough now at age 19/20 to at least be a substitute then you have to wonder if they will ever be good enough.

From what I have seen none of them are ready. Boyle looked the most likely but being out for a year has definatly knocked him back a year. Vidarsson is far to lightweight as is John Paul Kissock and Jutkiewicz. The one who has most impressed me is Kieran Agard the young lad from Arsenal. Pacy and Hardworking almost in the Andy Johnson mould But that is only in the reserve games.

I thought Vidarsson looked a very good player yesterday. Very neat and tidy, recycling possesion and always finding a team mate. My only worry is that he is too lightweight and for a lad of 6 foot that is a worry. If he can add strength to hi game he will be a tidy player.

I agree with Jon and Connor , particularly in repsect to Vidarsson - he is a good touch player, finds space and always passes well but he isnt a tackler, presser everything I think you need today particularly the way we play - even Arteta puts himself about.
I was at Palace yesterday and was looking forward when I saw the team sheet to the 3 young lads (Boyle,Vidarsson, and Lukas) getting 20 mins or so. Both Vidarsson and Lukas arent ready and I’m sure they will be used in the League Cup (whatever its called now) to see what they can deliver.

Boyle’s must be disappointed as we seem to be getting Baines who is only 20 and I suspect Boyles will go on loan again to see if he can cover for Baines in the long run , once Valente has gone . If not then he’ll leave.

Agard looks the best prospect at the moment but agin 2 -3 years along the line.
