We've heard the same via e-mail, John and it's all over some of the web forums, but have been assured it's nothing but rumour.

Just had a phone call from our kid saying Davey done one. He reckons it will be in the press tomorrow. The reason is the lack of transfer funds. Has anyone heard anything?

Heard the same rumour, came online to check if true. Worrying other people have heard the same. :S

Nothing on Sky yet.

Would be a disaster if he has!

Going into a season with a tiny squad and no manager. Hope its balls.

What I heard - although the source isn’t exactly concrete - is that he’s walked due to no backing on players he’s pinpointed and combined with a mysterious £11m bid for Lucho when we couldn’t afford Manny, you can see why...

I really hope its bollocks - but reading this means i’ve had it reported from two different sources now :(
Rob
7   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:46:18

The rumor mongering on this site is starting to reach epically retarded proportions. Are these your same "sources" that told us of the impending arrivals at one time or another of Nugent or Smith? Unless you can provide a source other than my best mate’s cousin’s girlfriend who knows the trainer’s sister, please give it a rest. Man, the lack of transfer activity is giving us plenty to make up. If I’m wrong, then this is a SAD day for Everton and about as ill-timed a move as possible. It makes such little sense to leave right before a stretch of UEFA football is upcoming.

Irvine has said this weekend that he is hopeful of getting baines. I doubt that would have changed on a sunday.

I think if he has gone this is a sad day for our club and will have a massive impact on our season.
Mike Oates
12   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:52:29

I was in Mainstand at Palace yesterday and Moyes came up to Kenwright and earl and was joking, laughing looking completely at ease.
Major disaster if he leaves now .Didnt he miss training last week due to family problems , and Irvine must have done last 10 interviews
Rob
13   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:54:51

But if the rumor had ANY legs to it, wouldn’t it at least be published in one of the shite rags like the Daily Express or Tribal? Hell, even Sky publishes every rumor they even hear uttered....
Lee
14   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:54:59

I haven’t posted a single rumour on here before and the only reason I have now is because the original post backs up what I heard independent of it.

I hope its a pile of crap, it SOUNDS like a pile of crap, for a few reasons.

a) He’s not under pressure from any section of the club.

b) We’re in Europe.

c) It’s right before the start of the season and he’s be an utter arse to leave now, and I don’t think he’s an arse.

But it’s still worrying nonetheless. It shows how frustrating the summer has been that this sort of thing even has a minor chance of being true...
Allan
15   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:56:19

Loads of number 2’s do interviews though, look at Utd, Bolton, Pompey etc - means nowt.

We have in the past signed a player on a Sunday, wasn’t Beattie signed on a Sunday?
Tony Hawkins
16   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:53:52

Rob - I’ll point you towards another manager who walked right before a stretch of UEFA football - Sam Allardyce. He left Bolton for pretty much the very same reasons.

IF (BIG IF) Moyes has left it will be the saddest day in a long time for Everton.

Peter Johnson was bad enough, Walter Smith having Duncan Ferguson sold from under him was massive and then, potentially this...

...and all because we have a Chairman in BK who wont let go of the reigns.
Brian Waring
17   Posted 05/08/2007 at 19:54:29

I would probalby agree with you up to a point Rob.It only takes someone starting a rumour to cause mischief. And then before you know it,it’s all over the city.Funny thing is my brother who told me,actually rang me from a boozer where he had just been told by some other redshite mate of his.Funny how it always starts in the pub.

If it is true we’ll be going into the season with no manager and 15 fit players. Expect a relegation battle.

I call shennanagans, is this the latest KEIOC tactic, :)

Hasnt Moyes always towed the line that he wants to do the job building from the ground up?

it would thefore be stupid of him to spit his dummy out

doesnt sound like the Moyes we all know

John
21   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:04:41

moyes walking would garantee a "no" to the kirkby move and the subsequent removal of wyness kenwright would surely follow soon after..

despite the good news being wyness and kenwrights positin will be under threat, it’d be an absolute disaster if moyes goes..

22   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:00:25

I really hope this is bollocks! We are screwed if it is true, but i don’t think it is, too many reasons to stay and moyes is used to being skint at everton!

Althoug as i have mentioned on another thread Arteta looks as if he is getting pissed off, In his last interview basically said he is very dissapointed we have not signed any class players! If he leaves we are screwed also!

23   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:06:45

I first saw this late Friday, suggestion was he was going on Monday.

I thought nothing of it to be fair, though now it made it here, I will be checking all day tomorrow to make sure there really isn’t anything in it..

Moyes is no Messiah, but he is a very good manager and has done very well with Everton, it would be a bad day if he did leave.

I hope my initial dismisal of the talk proves to be the right thought.

24   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:03:22

If Moyses resigns i will not vote to move to Kirkby, It is Kenwright who should go, We are 5 players short of a squad 6 days before the season starts, we cant even pay 1m for Vogel, Baines saga has gone on a week BK has offered 4m plus 4 tickets to Joseph & the Technicolour Dreamcoat I hear, no bid for Smith or Nugent, 2 players sold without replacement, now a rumour of 11m for Gonzalez what about Fernandes? 2 big players out for months,I dont blame Moyses if he resigned. BK needs to sell up now, gone are the days when clubs were owned by local butchers, bookies and theatre producers, they are run by wealthy men or consortiums, BK loves the powertrip of owning Everton he has to sell up soon or we will end up in the football basement, all other clubs are shopping at Harrods whilst we are literally at Poundstretcher.

It’s a worrying development, even if it is purely a rumour at this point. For all his faults, IMHO I think he has been a tremendous Manager of our club.

I can’t help imagining what this thread would be like, if it had been a rumour about Kenwright walking...

Reading irvine’s comments bout the Baines saga. It clearly shows even he doesn’t have confidence in the board. He states ’he’ll believe it when it happens’. Enough said.

Anthony Newell
30   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:11:16

If it’s true, and that’s a big IF it would no doubt make Kenwright’s position untenable forcing him to go. That is the only good thing which could possibly come out of it. It would however place our start to the season in complete turmoil. With the way things have been shaping up regarding transfers I wouldn’t blame Moyes for walking
Shaka
31   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:18:26

Here’s the situation. BK knows there might be a backlash at the Wigan game. So what’s Bk going to do about it?? Answer. Try get Baines in on the cheap and make a token bid for a player we’ve got little chance of signing. In the hope it’ll keep the fans happy. I’ll be suprised if he or Wynass turn up next week.

I don’t think any blue would blame Moyes for walking Anthony - hell, he’d have every right to, the way he has been hamstrung by BK and the board. I hope it’s not true and is just a RS rumour, but where there’s smoke....

Lot of people on here last season had a go at Moyes bout his tactics and the shit football we played. Some of us wanted him sacked. With all the Anti-Moyes Brigade and the Pro Moyes Camp. Now we hear a rumour his resigned and we’re all shitting our selves. Funny how things change.

Kevin Sparke
39   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:38:18

The bloke who works in our local off licence is going out with BK’s cousin’s gardener’s neice and he told me Moyes is taking over as Fergie’s 2nd man at Manchester United... we’re getting Ronaldo and Rooney in the deal.

He also gave me some magic beans for £50 and told me if I plant them they’ll grow into a beanstalk

If on the off chance Moyes has resigned - we’re fooked... well and trully fooked!

I wonder if we’ll see HK mark 4?
Ray Robinson
40   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:46:10

Shaka, you make a very valid point about the general attitide towards Moyes but, surely even those who wanted him out after the Spurs debacle last year, would not wish the manager to go on the eve of the season.
Shaka
41   Posted 05/08/2007 at 20:49:47

Ray, I personally don’t blame Moyes for the shite football we play. We don’t have the players who can play good attacking football. Remember the comments Moyes made when he first came here. He promised good attacking footy. But how can he achieve that, With no funds? He can’t go out and buy the players who can pass a ball. Or the players he really wants. In the five years his been here the board have never backed him properly. I suggest people give the guy a break and take their anger out on the board.
Jason Broome

Shaka we will, believe me WE WILL!!!
Anthony Newell
43   Posted 05/08/2007 at 21:00:09

Shaka, the problem would appear to be that Moyes’ has stopped putting any pressure on the board to back him to take the side forward. I’ve mentioned it in another post: Moyes going through the motions and the board happy to make do and mend means the club is heading rapidly down queer street

MOYES RESIGNATION-POSSIBLE TRUTH

Ive heard an alternative version of events, apparently moyes’ mum has died over the last few days, and of course moyes’ was unreachable.
Of course when someone close to you dies ANY football club, becomes merely a day job.
He was supposed to have taken a couple of days to sort his head out.
Someone at the club spread rumours he was pissed off about something, then that rumour was added to when they were told moyes wasnt answering kenwrights calls etc etc.next thing you know:
moyes is pissed off + ignoring calls = he’s resigned.
When the truth is moyes’mother died and he’s a bit fragile.
But his position is not and has never been in question at all this summer.
Again this is just a rumour Ive heard, If his mother hasnt died, then this may cause offence not intended.
But if indeed his mother has died in recent days then this is the likely source of the rumours.

Lot of things need to change at Everton. We need a new chairman and a new CEO. We need new fiances. We need to back the manager with funds. We need a good scouting network. Who are capable of finding some of the best young talent both at home and across Europe. We need some one who can bring in new buissness ideas and generate more revenues for the club. We need a new stadium within the City boundries. Everton should be run like a proper football club and as a buissness. You should get the picture by now. Basically the whole club needs a shake up.

If we has gone then consider this:

In 5 years we could lose:
Rooney; arguably the greater young player since Best.
Moyes; arguably one of the best young managers in British football and one of the best we have ever had.
Goodison Park; one of the greatest stadium in world football and home to everton for a century.

What a horrible thought.

Towards the end of last season when Moyes was spouting off about his next 5 years, did he have any clue that his boss was totally inept?

If he went It would be a big blow for the club. He has stabilised our club. Made us tight at the back and decent going forward. But with all the rumours I dont believe it. Moyes has never been given large amounts of money so why would he leave now. He spent about 2-3 million on Cahill and Bent the season we came 4th and he never moaned once.

I agree with Shaka, I too was shitting myself at the thought the rumours were true, as Moyes has done much in his time for this club, IMHO. That said, I still remember watching some truly terrible performances e.g. Arsenal 7-0, West Brom, Villa etc etc

I think the comparison with Charlton is eerie. Curbs walked out after taking the club as far as he could and the board soon regretted not backing him further. Good friends of mine who support the club are unsure at what long term damage has been done by missing out on the Sky bonanza this season. It may be several seasons before they get back to the top 8 where they were during Curbs peak.

Fact is, without backing, we cannot have a proper youth set up, investment in the first team and all those aspects that would reduce our dependence on one man. Sure, Ferguson and Wenger are hugely important to the Arse and ManYoo, but I think those clubs have solid enough foundations to overcome their departure/retirement. I think the loss of Moyes, in the current set up at Everton, would leave a very big hole. I’m glad the rumours are untrue, but a club of this size cannot be so dependent on one man.
Andy Cooper

i hope to god he hasnt walked out, i admit sumtimes i have had digs at moyes over his tactics n sum transfer dealings, but he has been one of the best managers this club had had in recent years and wud be a total disaster if he left, n with lack of numbers in the squad at the mo, n no manager for start of season, we cud be in for a relegation battle here

Fellow Blues. Keep your witts. Ask yourselves are sections of the ’no’ vote trying to turn you against Kenwright and in turn Kirkby???? Ask yourselves, think deep.

This is complete total utter complete bollocks. utter bollocks. Lyndon... this is why many Evertonians feel Toffeeweb is a negative site. Why the fook do you give such clear and utter crap the webspace to fester fear amongst your fellow blues???? Its silly season at Goodison. 2+2 = about 45. Or is it?? Is this a consice attempt to turn the vote???? Thats a charge that needs denying, I’d be totally livid if this thing it aimed at a Kirkby vote.

Seriously. I admire you’re writing and editing for the most part, even if I disagree with some of it, but giving this sort of thing ’airspace’ is not in the interests of Everton or Evertonians, surely you can see you have a responsbility in how the club is perceived both within and to the outside.

Such bogus rumors are destablising and I would seriously question this ’rumour’ as being an attempt to turn the fans against Kenwright and in turn the Kirkby Vote

Clear total and complete utter bollocks.

Davie Moyes - best thing to happen to the Blues in donkeys years.

I also heard Moyes had a family death, so perhaps if this is indeed the case we can leave be for a while.

Seriously folks this is diving to new depths if this is a political style attempt to turn votes.

Lyndon, I stand corrected having read the link in the top right corner of the main page. Apologies... although no apologies to anyone who would spread such a rumour initially to influence a vote. We should all make our vote for the reasons we believe most genuine and we should all respect those who vote the other way - I know I will.

Please appreciate my view point generally... I am sure you will agree websites like Toffeeweb have a responsibility to present matters in a level headed manner.

John, this is the MailBag. It’s a forum for fans to discuss things even it’s potentially scary stuff like Moyes resigning. It’s not an extension of the site’s editorial; if the topics are negative, it’s because they reflect the people who visit and write in — and at the moment there’s very little for fans to be positive about.

In this instance, the rumour was coming in from so many sources that no one knew what to believe until we were told it wasn’t true. Now, if the stories had been true, would the site have been negative or topical?

Colin, thank God it’s not Chris Moyles. Let’s just give DM some space to sort out family matters, these things happen unfortunately. See you all at the Wigan game. COYB!!!!!

John, you said that the rumour could have been started to influence the vote. What you don’t realise is, that by saying that, you could be influencing the vote of some of the don’t knows. They could be sitting there, thinking,Johns right, some anti-Kirkby fan has started this just to cause trouble.Well fuck them.I’m going to vote yes.You may think I’m being silly, but there are some naive people out there.

I was just thinking John.Maybe I’m the naive one,and you knew all along what you were doing. To attribute this rumour to an anti-Kirkby fan. maybe that was the idea.Planting the seed to get fans thinking that maybe it was an anti fan.Don’t you think it is bad enough that we are all at each others throats as it is?

Seriously Brian, have a think.

For the record I have stated very often that I totally totally understand the underlying principals of voting no and I’ll respect and understand anyone who does. My opinion so far is the good outweighs the bad. The last thing I’ll ever do is slag a fellow blue off for voting what he thinks is right..I think some people have lost track in recent weeks that we are all on the same side - board included.

You trying to turn it on me, I take your point.. I wasn’t trying to influence anyone btw, but I take your point. I was just trying to say ’folks, think things through for yourselves’. You must take my point back how these things can’t be allowed to interfer with your own thought process for how you vote right?!

And Lyndon, point taken mate, but you also see my sensativity? surely you understand how I can think that given the previous? Maybe I am overly skeptical. Maybe not. But we’re all on the same side right

Moyes took the Everton job thinking it was going to be a stepping stone to the Man Ure’s of the world, but it backfired cos he is an average manager and none of "The big clubs" wants him. Yeah he has done some wonderful things for the blues, but equally he has done some truly awful things for EFC! The bug eyed bum DOES at times think he is BIGGER than EFC,from some of his past comments made and all this bollocks about him leaving is just err well bollocks! He is happy to work on a tight budget cos the bell end HAS had money in the last few years and not spent(lack of strikers haven’t we been here before?) i understand and agree with the "not bringing players in for the sake of it" but fuck we NEED another 3,4,5 players added to this squad!I’m sick that Vaughan is injured but if he was fit should we really be putting so much pressure/responsibility on his and Victors shoulders?Couch potato Kenwright came out with the "Moyes has a job for life @ EFC" because Moyes wont put pressure on the board for more transfer funds or moan about how little he has to spend.Well I’m sick of ALL the lies and bullshit the cocksuckers that allegedly run EFC are again making a good attempt to turn Everton into a circus n its berzerk as fuck!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE MORONS WHO BELIEVE ANY OF THAT BULLSHIT WOULD BE THE END OF EVERTON !

DESPITE THE LYING HALF WITS WHO ARE IN POWER TODAY AT GOODISON.......WE WILL GO ON !

The end of the world is NOT even close !

Just relax and don’t believe all the nonsense that has been appearing on this site and others !

Has anybody else heard if we have signed Unsworth on a five year contract ?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

THAT WAS A JOKE !!!!!!!!!!

GEDDIT ? PLEASE !

One last comment is that David Moyes’ mother has seemingly died during the last few days.

IN THE NAME OF COMMON DECENCY , FELLOW BLUES CAN WE LEAVE ASIDE OUR OPINION OF HIS MANAGERIAL SKILLS AND FIND THE HUMANITY TO OFFER HIM OUR CONDOLENCES ON THAT SAD EVENT !

I couldnt care a fig if Moyes left. I think there can be a lot of rose-tintedness going on here. Just look at the facts, Moyes has hardly had an earth shattering 5 years;
-
- No trophies won
- Rooney was sold under his management
- Naysmith was resigned on a 5yr contract
- We were in serious relegation trouble, only just escaping
- Years that have ended in an even number, we’ve finished in the bottom half
- The quality of football hasnt really changed
- The kroldrup fiasco
- At times, the dressing room has been lost
- Young players hardly ever blooded, even in cup competitions
- A very poor cup record
- More money to spend than any previous manager
- 7-0 thrashings...
- Poor substitution’s and inability to change tactics

Its not all sweetness and light. He’s been an average manager. People keep harping on about how he has done well on an unlimited budget. Look at the stats - we’ve been in the top 8 of premierhship spenders for the last 5 years. We should expect top half finishes. That is actually all moyes has delivered.

I can’t believe how much Evertonians enjoy suffering. Maybe the people who are complaining about Moyes are so young they can’t remember what 1990 to 2002 felt like or they are so old they were brough up on the glory days of Dixie Dean and have that era as their point of reference.

No-one enjoyed the 17th place or 11th place under Moyes. But before he came 8 out of 9 seasons were like that, not 2 out of 5. We hadn’t been qualified for Europe through our league placing since Heysel.
No-one enjoyed Kroldrup, but no manager gets 100% of their buys right and when you look at Cahill, Lescott, Arteta etc the balance has got to be very positive.
No-one agreed with the substitution against Spurs. But also we won the derby 3-0 this season and took 4 points off the RS and Arsenal.

I personally find it difficult to understand how people criticise Moyes using the scoreline from the game a couple of days after we had achieved the seemingly impossible and reached the Champions’ League. And as for blooding youth - Rooney at 16, Vaughan at 16, Anichebe, Osman, Hibbert...

If we Evertonians are so determined to be unhappy then we will always be able to find things that aren’t perfect. Personally on the playing side (ie leaving aside Wyness, who I don’t believe is doing a good job - Kenwright simply hasn’t got the money no matter how much we wish he had, and no-one with money wants to invest), my glass is 90% full not 10% empty.

Jemremy B? Is that short for Beadle?!

Cos’ your winding us up lar! Do I believe my mince pies!!! Moyes is brilliant!!

"Moyes has been an average manager"

fook me, some of us really are on planet zog.

No trophies won - granted. But how many have we won under previous, what? 4 managers? finishing 4th was a major achievement. Now 6th is clear progress.
- Rooney was sold under his management - He wanted to go, his Man Utd badge kissing antic’s show you how much he was ’pushed out’ huh?

- Naysmith was resigned on a 5yr contract - ohh what arguement. Naysmith had his limitations there is no doubt, but he was a solid citizen. Spurs away last season anyone??

- We were in serious relegation trouble, only just escaping. No we werent. We were safe with 5 games to play and then the lads fooked it off last 5 games thus we finished 17th. It was piss poor I agree, but we werent even clsoe to going down. 5 games I tell thee!

- Years that have ended in an even number, we?ve finished in the bottom half. -Which is every year under Walter Smith. Ungreatful qunt!

- The quality of football hasnt really changed. Are you kiding me? Arhh bring back the days of Gemmil, Ginola and Gacoigne! How I long for such err utter shite.

- The kroldrup fiasco. Bought for 5m sold for 3.5m. Same week Marcus Bent, bought for 400k sold for 2m. This is life.

- At times, the dressing room has been lost. Hilarious!!

- Young players hardly ever blooded, even in cup competitions. Thats because we are trying to win.

- A very poor cup record. Granted. May have something to do with small squad? I dont know.

- More money to spend than any previous manager. Really? On a per season basis? What did Walter Spend? I cant believe Moyes has spent more than Walter. You can only calculate this on net spend. E.g.. what he has spent compared to what is recouped. Also, see our squad value Moyes Vs Smith. You’re on drugs.

- 7-0 thrashings... and 4th place finishes.

- Poor substitution?s and inability to change tactics . Now and again yeah. But also see a 4-5-1 with Cahill and AJ - one of the most effective systems any team in the country employs.

Rumour mongers. Gob**ites all.

I remember many years ago, very soon after he was appointed to the job, rumours went round that Arsene Wenger had been sacked. Even more distasteful, the rumour had it that he’d been involved in acitvities one would now associate with the likes of Chris Langham.

Turned out the whole spoof had been started by Spurs ’fans’. But rumours being rumours, and people liking a bit of scandal, the rumour managed to reach our office in Leeds!

I wish people would stick to talking about things they KNOW!
