The Mail Bag

When there is smoke... OK, maybe not a wildfire

I really don't believe Davey would leave... his heart bleeds Toffee Blue and he has a decent gig going, despite the tight-wads up in the front office. Should he really leave, I'd consider that a really bad thing. Believe me, I was among the loudest cursing at my TV the night Spurs stole 3 points, but Davey has done a great job.

I do find it easy to believe, however, that the rumor of Davey leaving has had some of its fire fueled by some legitimate (and understandable) frustration between Davey and his lieutenants and the top brass. I think Irvine's recent comments regarding the "Baines Saga" would suggest such discontent.

More telling, however, might be Arteta's comments regarding his worries of transfer inactivity, which got a good run in the media, both in the UK and even in here the US on Fox Soccer Channel. At first, I was surprised that Mikel would say such things (however true they may be), simply because it might put his manager (which I presume he likes) under even more pressure. If I were a manager having a fuckin' hard time over the whole summer trying to bring fresh talent in, I'd perhaps not take too kindly to one of my players spoutin' off that we need more fresh talent!

But perhaps Davey gave the old "nudge nudge wink wink" to Arteta, encouraging him to spout off to the media and put pressure on the tight wads in the board room?

Perhaps this pipedream bid for Gonzalez was the brass' answer to such pressure......a lame way to deflect attention. THE FANS DESERVE THE TRUTH! WHERE IS THE MONEY?!

I think it is good that Arteta is questoning the transfer activity. It shows that our best player is worried as are the fans, Moyes and Irvine.

The Gonzalez bid is a bit dodgy because I think if Moyes had 11 mil to spend then he would probably get about 3 players in for that and I also dont think that this argie is really a ’Moyes’ type of signing!

Breaking news on the official site Baines is set to have a medical today. At last this whole saga is over.

Just saw on Sky Sports news that Baines is having his medical 2day and will sign, they also mentioned our 11mill bid for the Porto argentine.

Is this the Sami Fam of Iwate-Ken fame? If so, Simon did a good job there. A true Blue from Toronto (wasn´t it?).
