When rumour and bad taste collide

Comments (6)

Whilst I respect the right of this site to reflect the views and concerns of fans rather than follow the official line it has become increasingly the case over this summer that the slightest suggestion of a story has been amplified beyond all reasonable rationality. Whilst this is at times understandable and, when it comes to transfer targets, part of the 'fun' of the silly season, it came to a rather ugly head last night.

Whilst David Moyes mourns the death of his mother the fans who he has served, irrespective of what you think of his footballing record, with absolute dignity, professionalism and integrity for the past five years opt to spread and perpetuate a farcical suggestion that he has walked out of the club a week before the new season.

Whatever you feel about the summer's goings-on this is little more than a slur on the character of someone who has conducted himself in a manner befitting more respect than to suggest he would be so unprofessional as to abandon the club in a fit of pique at such a crucial time. I stress that I am not referring to his footballing record but the nature of the man and standards he has brought to the club which deserve better than this kind of treatment. That it has continued even after the true, and saddening, nature of the situtation was revealed serves only to leave a bad taste in the mouth. It is rank opportunism by those with an agenda against the board to try to utilise Moyes' understandable withdrawal from the public eye for their own purposes.

Evertonians on these pages are partial to using the club's motto to berate underachievement wherever they see it. Rightly so at times. However, when we behave like this, we don't deserve the best.

Hi John,

Unfortunately, being an Evertonian doesn’t automatically instill common sense in a person.

I offer my own condolences (for what theyr’e worth) to David Moyes and his family.

Well said John, absolute disgrace the way some fans have used this as an excuse. The fact that Davey turned up for the Palace game was comendable in my eyes. Thoughts are with Moyes and his family.

Moyes had transformed us from relagation fodder into a top six side, yes there is the yoyo effect but hes ahd to do it with one major signing every transfer window. If we clinch Baines today this will be the most optomistic i have gone into a new season in years. Would his critics rather we had a manger who through 40m at signings he has never watched ala Sven??? Just look at whats hes doing(ok slowly but its not his fault were skint), buying young, quaity, mostly english players and tying down all our best players on 5 year deals...this stadium thing aside the future is looking very bright!

My thoughts exactly John, as a club we seem to have more than our share of morons who are as vitriolic as they come.

Some of the postings of late seem to be willing us to defeat and failure before the season has started.

People have short memories, we know have the makings of a half-decent side, with a number of genuine class players in all positions.

Yes, the ride under Moyes has been a bit erractic at times, but as a club have we made progress?

Yes, undoubtably.

Here here.

good point John. Irrespective of what people think of Moyes as a manager, I would be massively suprised if he was a coward and walked out in this manner.

Pointless rumour-mongering!
