Arteta's gonna leave

Comments (60)

Mikkie's comments in the press are well founded. What I think he's hinting at is that there is far too much pressure on him as our only class player. OK, AJ will score given service and so will Tiny Tim, but we have nobody except our Spanish genuis able to do something special that unlocks defences or excites the fans.

He needs the help of quality players not content with hoofing searching, hopeful passess up field. I sense his frustration and fear that he'll go if Everton don't improve the quality of our squad.

I'm increasingly amazed that David Moyes persists in allowing our team to indulge in the kind of footy that gives the ball to the opposition so often. Too often we, the fans are tortured by a variety of passing that transcends woeful. Who made Tony Hibbert and Alan Stubbs (love him) our playmakers? I spend whole matches watching poor AJ chasing hopeful punts up field or attempting in vain to control a viciously struck ball on his head whilst being clattered by a 6'5" defender.

Please, lets have some quality, some skill, some savvy, some dexterity... or Our Teta will be off... and I wouldn't blame him.

Nonsense. If he wanted to leave, he wouldnt have signed a 5yr deal just a few weeks ago.

I have to agree with Mark. We desperately need another creative midfielder and a target man up front to support AJ.

Contracts mean nothing. If Arteta decides to leave he will, regardless of whether he signed a 5 year deal a few months earlier. Who can blame him when we are content to launch a hopeful 50 yard punt from defense in an attempt to find a blue shirt.

Lets give Pienaar a chance too eh,he is supposed to be a creative and dynamic midfielder who could compliment Arteta who is a fantastic supplier but is never going to make driving runs through the midfield (dare I say a bit like Gerrard) and we may even have a new face on the left side if rumours are to be believed!

I think Mikel will be helped out a bit more in that department next season. Have you seen Steven Pienaar play? You dont come through the Ajax youth system unless you have something special. He is a very creative player and hopefully he can adapt. Osman has looked good this Pre-season and hopefully he can get his best form back. He has had three seasons two good one shit so lets give him a chance. Hopefully Van der Meyde can step up. He wants to play for us and has got himself fit and shed a few pounds. Leigthon Baines likes to get forward and has a good passing/crossing range. Hopefully we can get another midfielder in but you never no.

I agree that Arteta may move on. He signed a new contract with hope of new faces. Remember Bilic signed for Everton after being told we were going to sign certain star players. AJ doesn’t waste many clear chances but how many does he get. The supply to him is woeful and we don’e play to his ’lethal’ strengths. DM may not want to spend a million or two over the odds but how much would he have to pay out to replace Arteta?

Christ you people are miserable. Every day I come to this site looking for some glimmer of hope to cheer me through the pre-season, a cheeky transfer rumour, some bullish predictions on the season ahead, a speculation on the future ground move or foreign investment and every bloody day it’s the same thing, "Our squads too thin", "We play rubbish football", "Half the players are cloggers", "The potential transfer targets are over-priced/have been stolen", "The board are trying to lie to us and con us", etc, etc, Whinge, whinge, whinge. Makes you wonder where the term Bitter Bluenose came from doesn’t it!
I don’t think we have to be happy clappy all the time and I’m all for constructive criticism but come on, lighten up folks.

We’re in Europe, we’re expected to vie for a top 6 finish again, we’ve replaced some deadwood with some quality and probably have a few more signings to come, we’ve got one of the best managers in the league and a board that clearly has some respect for its fanbase (more than most) and the Premiership’s kicking off on Saturday. COYB!!!

Since when did pre season games mean anything? They’re merely for match fitness, the way teams play means nothing, come the new season it’ll be different, not least a different team.

Everyone needs to calm down a bit on here, stop freakin out at every little thing you read or see. Knee jerk reactions are what lead to problems. I’m just glad none of you lot are in charge!

I am fed up with you doom and gloom merchants. How many times has Artea got to say he is staying. Christ he signed a 5 year deal a couple of weeks ago. Its time negative dickheads got a life . The posts in the last 2 months have been awful/ We signed Baines today despite some of you saying he was redshite and wouldn’t sign. He apparently signed for 10000 a week less than the Barcodes offered. Go the mighty Blues and anything that Marsh bloke writes has no credibility
Alan

Come on, calm it people, Pienaar hasn’t even played yet and people are writing him off and the bid for Gonzalez clearly shows Moyesy is trying to take the pressure off Arteta.

I have to say I am normally have been moaning, but deep down I do feel otimistic- If you ckeck the players we do have - its not that bad a team - assuming Baines is signed up and everyone fit ! - check out the squad we have.
first 11 (4-5-1)

Howard
Yobo
Neville
Lescott
Baines
Jagielka
Carsley
Areta
Pienaar
Cahill
Johnson

Not a bad first 11 - will give anyone a game- plus if we sign another playmaker (manny - i wish) we will be very strong - then we do also have futher good players as back up or as my secont team:
Turner / Ruddy
Stubbs
Hibbert
Valente
Van Der Meyde
Osman
McFadden
De Silva
Vaughan
Anichebe
Jugiewicks (spelling)

We will be ok - I am very hopefull we will add 1 more striker and a playmaker- COYB

LETS GIVE WIGAM A HAMMERING.

Ah Allan you are exactly the type of Evertonian I go on about mate.
Its fans like you who are killing the club by excepting mediocrity or worse as the norm.By doing so you allow Kenwright and Moyes to get away with what they do with out any pressure being brought on them.
I have been going the Everton games home and away for 30 years
and have every right to voice my opinons. What troubles you Moyes muppets is the fact that I done lap up all the shite the club serves up.

You fool yourself all you like but some of us want more than this.At a time when nearly every PL club is getting richer and stronger we are still going backwards ON AND OFF THE PITCH.

Thats ok then is it Big All? Trouble is mate you lot cant see what fools you really are for going along with it all.

Tony, sorry to jump into your argument mate but surely bY contributing such a wedge to football through Everton and sky it is you who is sponsoring our clubs football and therefore encouraging them to carry on playing the way they are. If you want to make a statement to the club that you are not happy with your entertaiment surely the best way to do that is to withdraw your financial support. Bleating on here like a lost sheep will get you ZERO response from those in charge. The only language they speak is CASH. tThe only thing you achieve with your constant ravings is to get up the noses of the vast majority of normal Supporters.

How anyone can hold the crystal palce game as a bench mark for things to come is beyond me. I was thereand it was plain to see that almost all the players were playing within themselves. This was highlighted in the first minute when Stubbs bottled out of a challenge and let Scowcroft in. When in a competative game has Stubbs ever bottled out of a challenge?

I can’t believe the spotlight that falls on what can best be described as glorified kick abouts. The only aim of these games is to get fit, regain sharpness and not get injured.
Peter Singer
19   Posted 06/08/2007 at 14:36:11

Tony, I think you both are over-reacting it.

You’re right, it’s no good being a happy clapper, people will eventually learn that you can be served any crap and you’ll still go on smiling.

But if you cry wolf all the time, people will learn to ignore your cries and that’s no good either.

Yes, the Palace game was shite, I don’t want to see any of that in the coming season but a bad pre-season game is far from the end of the world.

We both know that we won’t play effective and classy football all the time, there will be matches when all we can do is hoof hopeful balls upfield. The question is whether it will be a tendency or the rare exception.

We’ve seen good passing football against Werder and against Spurs away last season, the players have proven that they’re capable of that. The next step is to do it more often.

(Off the pitch we’re going backwards, sad but true.)

In response to Tony Marsh, why is it Tony that you always have to put the cart before the horse, your anti Moyes agenda is well known but your continuing bating of the man is becoming inane. I am with you on Kenwright 100% and more, given the script though could anyone really do a better job than Moyes given the poisoned chalice that he continually has to drink from ?. I’m firmly in the Tony Marsh camp regarding the leadership of the club...Not one Evertonian supporter should be happy with the club’s lack of summer transfer activity...Not if they want us to actually have a chance of winning something in the near future. With regard to withdrawing finances and boycotting games etc,... that is only cutting off your nose to spite your face. Does any one think the club would be bothered !!As I understand it, Tony’s never said he doesn’t love Everton like the rest of us, he’s just not a fan of Kenwright & Wyness etc and on that score I must agree with him. The only way to make these clowns take notice is to voice our displeasure en masse...but I’m sorry not going to the match is not the way to do it.!!
Come Saturday I’ll support & back the TEAM to the hilt, however that doesn’t mean that I’m not allowed to disapprove the way the club is run. When he took over Kenwright promised supporters transparency in all matters. He kept this promise for about six months. Believe it or not I do happen to have his London email address and have sent him many letters some positive, some critical. Would it surprise you to learn that he only ever replys to the positive ones. At no time has he ever bothered to answer or give explanations to emails questioning the lack of transfer activity, club’s apparent lack of ambition etc....but I suppose he owns the club he doesn’t have to answer to me does he...I’m only a SUPPORTER !! That sums him up really...happy to take the plaudits but is conspicuious by his absence when the flak starts flying.

Peter my main gripe with Moyes is
not what he has or has not spent on players.I reckon he has had decent backing by the way.I know Moyes is good at getting a small squad to be hard to beat but is that enough at the end of the day.

Last season on a couple of occasions the players looked to me as though they threw off the Moyes shackles and played some great stuff.Spurs away and Pompey at home are 2 games I remember.
So why is it that we always revert back to the useless tactics of the long ball when we can all see the players are capable of much more if only the manager would encourage it.

its his team and his tactics.

Give the players freedom to play the game and maybe we will achieve something much better than bombing out of Competitions in the early stages every season.

Fully understand why Tony Marsh is disillusioned by the same old shite and with the ambivalence the club has towards the fans. Again, this summer was an opportunity for the club to press on to the next level. Unless there are some dramatic transfer developments in the next week then expect us to get caned in Europe again and endure a much harder domestic season. As a footnote, any pompous know-it all who dismisses the validity of fans opinions like Mr Marsh’s is very far removed from the ordinary match going supporter and is just the type who’d take us all off to Kirkby without thinking twice
Steve Claringbold
39   Posted 06/08/2007 at 19:16:28

I am the ordinary match going supporter.

I am positive, I believe the club are doing the right thing by not jumping into the market willy nilly and buying shite for shite’s sake. They want to bring in the right players for the right work ethic. I can understand that.

Mr Marsh on the other hand, is an Everton supporter but is very anti-Everton. Even if we won the league he would still complain ’cause we hadn’t won the FA Cup.
I’m not a pompous know all and I don’t claim to be I’m just sick of people slagging this club before we’ve even kicked a ball in anger this season. Get behind the club and stop slagging it.

Steve, positivism is great and very healthy. I’ll be there supporting like the next man but I want the club to advance to the next level. I’ve been clicking on these soddin websites daily for some sniff that were going to bring in quality players and move the club forward. I don’t believe Mr Marsh is anti-Everton as you suggest, I would just guess (and correct me if i’m wrong Tony) that he’s as cheesed off as me with the false dawns, spurned opportunities to progress, lack of investment and general shite football served up. That’s just realism I’m afraid
Steve Claringbold
41   Posted 06/08/2007 at 19:32:00

I too have been clicking on the websites awaiting some transfer news etc. but we have to be realistic, we’re just not going to chuck around the likes of £15 million on one player and those teams that do have more money than sense.

And believe me Mr Marsh is Anti-Everton, I’ve been reading his shit for months now and for someone who claims to be a supporter it’s a joke.

Spot on Anthony Newall. Its the fear of what I have have seen so many times before in the past that has me worried now.The display against Palace last week all though some are saying was only a friendly sums it up for me.one week before kick off you can just see the way Moyes will have us playing. He hasnt changed a bit in 6 years.
As for Claringbold he thinks Man City are paying to much for Fernandez if they get him. To fucking much when the new owner is a Gazillionaire.I am sure he will miss £10 million. Just proves to me that Stevey Boy is

You keep slagging the club Tony, I’ll keep supporting it.
Anthony Newell
44   Posted 06/08/2007 at 19:35:44

Steve, I readily acknowledge that the club has to operate on a shoe string with the current custodians and I’m sure Moyes is shit scared of making any more mistakes like Wright, Kroldrup, Beattie. I personally thought the rumour about Lucho was bollocks as I could just never see Moyes putting his arse on the line with a signing like that

Unfortunately, the teams that do have the money and are splashing the cash are doing so because they have been pumped with investment and have recognised that there is little they can do about the prices determined in the market. I fully agree that the club shouldn’t bring in duck eggs just to make up the numbers but on the other hand, we have not strengthened enough to advance the club nor stand still. Once more we have been presented with an opportunity via Europe to take the club forward and again it looks like this has been spurned. Even worse, the clubs we are trying to stay ahead of us have strengthened so we face a harder season
Tony Marsh
45   Posted 06/08/2007 at 19:49:01

Steve in the real world of PL football the going rate gets paid and then there are other teams that pay more because of who they are.Money and worths are made redundant when your chairman is an
Abramovich or A corrupt ex prime minister with trillions stashed away.£10 million or 10p it has no meaning anymore. You either got it or you aint.

As for me slagging off Everton and upsetting you all.Well its because I think a lot of you need a kick up the arse to wake you up.

My version of Everton FC 2007 is a lot more realistic than your sugar coated away with the mixer version any day.

You keep supporting the club and keep your mouth shut as BK takes us down the road to destruction
and you will be as guilty as him in my book.

You have your ideas about what would happen and there are plenty of others who disagree and have there own vision. Steve, Anthony, Tony lets just all agree on one thing and stop this arguing, we all have EFC’s best interests at heart, we all are supporters with different views and that is good.

I don’t think it is fair that tony calls pro kirkby fans scabs and traitors as they are entitled to their views and wishes, but on the flip side we do pay the money and we are all as fans entitled to our opinions good and bad and i personally think a HEALTHY DEBATE should consist of these varying extreme views and those views somewhere in the middle.

On Saturday, we will all be there with the same excitment and hope of wathcing our beloved blues get off to a great start and knock the stuffing out of wigan, but on a personal note i do hope we get at least another 2 good siginings after Baines including a forward because we will need them.

So by you logic, if the move does not go through, everyone who votes yes should stop going to matches because they will be standing next to people who in their opinion have voted to keep Everton at an old stadium and hold back the club, causing Everton to continue to fall behind the competition.

I have to say this though, I don’t for one second believe that you will not go to watch Everton if we move to Kirkby. You know deep down you love the club too much. You don’t have to admit it, but I know that I could not think of ever refusing a chance to go watch Everton. It’s the only football club I’ve ever known, since my Grand Dad bought me a tiny Everton kit when I was about a year old and took me out to the park to kick the ball around. You might be right, but can he not improve himself? He’s still young as Prem managers go and has plenty of time to learn. (Whether we have the time is another matter.)

My very personal experience is that hoofball comes naturally to players when they’re not confident enough in their own ability to dribble or pass the ball. The manager has great influence over these matters but he’s not fully in control.

I think he’s able to learn a thing or two over the coming seasons. But its acceptable if you think he isn’t. Neither of us knows for sure.

All, aggressive language is the last thing this debate needs at the moment.
Lets stick to the facts(or lack of them).
Personally I feel the NO Vote is winning the arguments hands down at the moment. Lets keep the bandwagon rolling and defeat the abhorrent thought of moving out and handing over an 130 year tenure to the S****.

Peter, I do doubt that Moyes can take us on the next level but I have been ready to be proved wrong. The question is how long are you prepared to wait? - another 5 years? He has improved the squad, no doubt about that and to which I am highly grateful but we need something a bit more to push us on and I’m not sure he’s got it

The starting line up for the Wigan game shall be very interesting indeed. Consider two scenarios:

Moyes goes for it straight from the off sticking two up front and blooding Jageilka, Baines and Piennar from the off, saying, "right lads, make a fucking name for yourselves"

Moyes plonks Johnson up front on his tod and we get the conservatism of fucking Hibbert who can’t pass, limited Osman and the errant Nuno Valente. Moyes says "keep it tight lads and don’t concede whatever you do"
