A Title Challenge

If/when Baines becomes an Everton player our defence should consist of Baines, Jegielka, Yobo & Lescott, that's as good as any in the Premier League I would argue. With no injuries, our starting eleven would then possibly be Howard, Jagielka, Baines, Yobo, Lescott, Arteta, Neville, Pienaar, Cahill, Johnson & Vaughan. Let's be fair thats a bloody good side, possibly the best Everton side since the 1980's.

I know injuries will take their toll and the small squad will struggle to cope but still if fit that starting 11 would be good enough to beat anyone on its day. I would go as far to say that that starting 11 is a world-class midfielder and striker away from a title challenge.

If every player was fit, Gonzalez was added to the midfield and we still had Rooney, I bet Everton would be dark horses for the Prem title. Just a shame that injuries are unavoidable and Moyes doesn't have enough money to bring in two world class players. Moyes will get there in the end, it's just going to take longer with less resources.

Oh Dutch... it's good to know you can be trusted to resort to talking utter twaddle. As the age-old saying goes: If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

I have just nearly keeled over,I have actually agreed with something you have said Dutch.(only about the back for though, and us needing another quality midfielder and striker)I would rather have Phil Neville at right-back.And on paper, for me,I would argue Dutch, that is the best defensive line up in the prem(including the top 4)and to finish it off,we have Howard in goal.

Doesnt matter what team you send across the white line every week if all the players are instructed to do is hoof it 40 yards down the channels.Put the current world 11 in Blue shirts and tell them to play the way we do and the results would not change much.br />Tactics and game plans are just as important as the players trying to execute them.

I think lots of people are already assuming that Pienaar will be shit hot - I seriously hope this will be the case Dutch
I personally think Neville’s best position is in defence and Carsley does a better job as the holding man. Would prefer Vogel over either of them. Like you say, a lot of if’s buts and maybe’s. I still think we are over reliant on Arteta to do the creative stuff and thats why I for one would prefer a gamble on a known quantity like Fernandes. Snuff Arteta out and were devoid of ideas

Great post Dutch, totally agree with everything you say there,we need to be quick tho cos 1 or 2 in the squad may only have a few good years left in them if that! Nice to see that Tony Marsh uses a positive post to have another swipe at David Moyes (I think Moyes bullied him at school or something),but give the guy a break, his mum has just died!!

Tony Marsh is right its not like David Moyes tactics could ever get Everton into the Top 4. Especially with Marcus Bent up front.

It takes free-flowing attacking football tactics to win the league just ask Chelsea.
