Strikers

Okay, so a classy full back like Baines is a must so one assumes Valente will just be cover if he stays fit and there is always Lescott but up front is now the problem. We wont'miss Beattie's lack of goals but, with Vaughan an absentee now, who covers if AJ or Big Vic get injured or just don't get goals consistantly enough to win games? Could well be the Nugent saga could come back to haunt us.

I think Nugent would have been a great buy. Another local lad who wanted to play for his team but unfortunately it didn’t happen.
I have been confident ever since that Moyes has someone in mind who is a better player and for a better deal but it looks unlikely now. We need a skillful midfielder and striker before end of August if we are to compete this season.
PS When is the draw for the UEFA cup?

I reckon Moyes is thinking about using Cahill as a second striker - its the only position he really excels in and we’ll play 4 5 1 with him in the team. So lets hope that he doesn’t get injured. Oh.

Pienaar has played up front for both Ajax and in Germany. We’re also being linked with Santi Esquerro, who I assure you is quality. I saw him play in Spain on a number of occasions and the kids class.
Doubt it’ll happen, even though he wants to come to England. SHame.

How about Mido? - looks like a handy lad and at 24 has plenty of years ahead of him. Acquired for a sensible price (say 4-5 mill) I think he would compliment Johnson very well. If my memory serves me well he appears to know where the net is and has stuck away a couple of screamers in his time. As it seems Sunderland are the only one in the running it would appear to be on a plate

I have voiced my concerns several times about who is going to score us the goals, I just don’t see AJ being able to do it on his own or with a striker. Many of his Palace goals were penalties remember. We seem to be hit badly by injuries every season, Cahil seems to be injured all the time along with vaughan. Expect yet again one upfront at home. Why oh Why didn’t we go for Nugent..Portsmouth don’t piss aroundlike we do, do they.

What’s with the worry about where goals will come from? We were the 5th highest scoring team in the premiership last year I believe, and we still have all those players with us, but have added Pienaar and there is still time to add one or two more. Do you not remember how many penalties we were dinied last season, the head of the referees association admitted we were denied 8-10 legitimate penalties, and right after he came out and said that we suddenly started to get more of those calls. Cahill is out for about 5 more weeks, not the whole season. And Vaughan will be back from his shoulder injury in November. It is a loss but if you look around the league every team has there share of injuries, look at Chelsea for God’s sake. We have AJ, Anichebe, and McFadden to start the season, we will get Cahill back, then we will get Vaughan back. And what is with this belief that Nugent is a prolific goal scorer, what has he ever done to earn this reputation.

Mido would probably be a decent partner for AJ in that he is pretty good in the air and he’s also got a decent touch on the ground..I cant see Everton shelling out 6 million on a striker though, its ok to sell one for 4 million mind you..were’nt we in for Mido before he actually went to Spurs on loan about three years ago?. To be honest there is not many options left striking terms,at least that come straight to mind..

Allan,I,ve never seen that spanish lad play. But I have had a little look at him(time on my hands)and the only problem I would have with us getting him,is that he is hardly prolific.his career stats are played 315,goals scored 63.We need someone along side AJ who finds the net a lot more than this lad.

Lack of goals pre-season has been blatantly obvious so a class striker must be a priority. AJ may well start banging them in if they use someone with guile and a brain to feed him - whilst they’re talking to Barca about Ezquerro, they’d do well to enquire about Gudjohnson.
