Baines fails medical
Comments (16)
I am currently working on a boozer by Goodison, and on my way home today I asked one of the staff for an update on any transfers, and he said that Baines has failed his medical. He did not know why or what was going to happen now. I believe he is currently out injured with a minor injury, this may be the reason, but I would be devastated if he did not sign as I really do think he would compliment the team so much.
Also, may I please pay my condolences to Davey Moyes, love him or hate him, I'm sure we are all mourning for you!

If so, I hope it is not serious enough to make us pull out of the deal!
We could go fair few games without him at the start of the season without too much trouble.

He’s carrying a hamstring injury according to Chris Hutchins. Everton’s medicals always last 2 weeks but are always worth it - think Lescott and Forsell.

This morning Newcastle were attempting to beat us to Baines, this afternoon they signed Enrique for £6 million.
Did they have Enrique on the back burner expecting to lose out on Baines or was their interest in Baines just a smoke screen to help Wigan get a better price?
Either way this morning they were after Baines and this afternoon they signed Enrique, those barcodes really know how to rush through a deal. Probably explains why they have signed so much shit over the years.
Everton meanwhile appear to be putting Baines through their usual check-everything-twice medical which could last days. I guess we should be thankful that everything is double checked when Everton make a signing but its annoying having to wait so long for good news.
It also makes you wonder how the fuck AVDM managed to pass one of our medicals???

I’m always in a pub near the ground. And most days on my way home pop into Goodison for a chat.
Generally there is somebody hanging round willing to discuss the confidential medical histories of prospective employees.
As you would expect??????

The signing is reported as fact on SkySports.com with quotes from Baines about leaving behind good friends at Wigan and so on.

Another school of thought is that Wigan will not want Baines making his debut against them on Saterday so I bet some kind of gentlemen’s agreement will have been reached to keep him out of that game.
Rumors of a failed medical and an injury will make it easier for Moyes to leave Baines out of the squad on the opening day.
That way he has an legitimate excuse rather then Wigan just not wanting him to play.

I think Dutch just hit the nail on the head. Shades of Tim Howard, but in this case at least we have viable alternatives in that position.

Wikipedia says that Baines current club is Everton, and he joined for £5million 2day? Hopefully this is true.

I wouldnt take too much notice of what I read on Wikipedia..Thats put together mainly by arseholes..Remember reading about Gary Naysmith on there..It describes him as ’one of the best left backs in the world at this current moment’..It was just someone joking..The latest I had heard was that Baines was undergoing the second part of his medical today..I think all the news on Sky and Wigans website were very premature if you ask me..True the deal was agreed but they were forgetting the small minor detail of having a medical with a dodgy hamstring..Who could forget the Sean Davis saga of 2003?. Chase him all summer despite knowing he badly damaged a new in a pre season match but we still bid 5 million and get him on a medical..Result?. Deal dead and gone.. The same happened with Forsell.. I am hoping they will just push through a deal for Baines and not turn away from a move this late on..We need players so badly and to be honest its taking Everton so bloody long to do everything..I think if the Baines deal falls through then it looks almost doomed to bringing anymore players in.

I’d say Dutch has got something there. Hutchings on Sky Sports News was saying Baines had a "slight calf strain" and didn’t expect him to play on Saturday, with a wry smile on his face.
