At last, news that not all footballers are money-grabbing bastards! Should fit in well here and I'm sure he will prove a fantastic buy. Roll on Saturday!

"The England Under-21 international, who rejected a £6m move to Sunderland and has been offered a more lucrative contract by Newcastle, discussed personal terms and underwent a medical on his native Merseyside yesterday and could be announced as an Everton player today."

He’ll do what makes him and his family happy first and make money second to compliment the first objective.

He’s a Kirkby lad, by the way. Yet it’s amazing the amount of people who call Leighton a "Scouser" and simultaneously write off Kirkby as "part of Wigan".

Am I the only one who thinks Baines isn’t the best signing in the world! fair enough he’s a good footballer, but with the way we play, out full backs just hoof the ball up the line anyways! Look at Tony Hibbert, everytime he gets the ball it’s just up the line with it! Surely we could have got someone that can do that 4 cheaper and got a new striker or sumik!

To be fair i think tony hibbert hoofs the ball up the pitch because hes shite going forward! I certainly dont beleive he gets instructed to do that!

I am excited about baines because as well as giving more width and attacking options he is going to find the top corner a few times as well.
lets face it everyone loves watchin a screamer go in, something currently on arteta can do....why doesnt he shoot more??

Maybe its cuz we play too much like Arsenal abd Moyes doesnt want us shooting from far out and hed like us to pass the ball into the net!

Baines is a fantastic left back, and it’s great to add yet another Englishman to the squad. We are a proper English club, with a good mix of English players and some foreigners, the way it should be. The numbers of our team may have went down a bit this summer, but the quality has went up. The players that we lost couldn’t get a game in this side, they wouldn’t even be on the bench, so who needs them. Wright, Pistone, Naysmith, Beattie, all not good enough for our team. Jagielka, Baines, Pienaar are all younger, better, and we still have plenty of time to add more. And I for one am thrilled that we don’t have some corrupt Thai Prime Minister, who was thrown out of his own country, owning us and buying every single foreign player that they can find. We need new investment but not in that form.
