I've just been reading through the mailbag and feel this needs more attention.

This is a link to the bestway board of directors. This was put up by Pete in another mailbag aticle.

Bestway directors.

I will be looking for at least one of these to come out and say he is a life long Evertonian who wants to club to move forward like Sir Terry Leahy befor I vote no.

Don't forget the club are only saying a yes vote will ''allow them to continue with negotiations'' maybe if they do LCC will actually come up with a financial plan to support the loop/traffic island?

The KEIOC was commendable and heart felt but not realsitic in my opinion.

Could i just add....
with everyone talkin about everton ahving no PLAN B.

When we fucked the Kings dock up LCC had no PLAN B for us either! Lets face it they just wanted ’something’ on the dock and at one point we were the prefered option. When it didnt happen did anyone from LCC say ’’we absolutley loved the stadium idea and design, we’re sorry it didnt happen on the dock but we have all these other sites for you to investigate’’? NO they just fucked us off until they shit themselves the other week when it became clear we were either no longer willing to wait for them, or were angry with them for granting the RS permission to build on stanley park. I know we only enquired about that btw but our enquiries we met with dont bother its a victorian blah blah blah

Andy, when Kenwright fucked up the Kings dock, why was it down to LCC to have a plan B?As you say,we fucked it up not LCC.They backed us to the hilt, extending time periods so we could try and find the money. Also,If we couldn’t find £30m as our input into the docks, how were we going to fund it, if LCC did have a plan B?It’s so easy for people to blamer LCC for our incompetence, when at the end of the day, they are not employed to babysit us.

I still believe Kirkby will never happen.Based on experience with Tesco projects in other town centres (rather than out of towm)it will be beset with planning problems. So just relax!

lets face it there is no finacially viable plan b from anywere...lets just stay at goodsion for a few more years and spend 50m on players!

How do people keep coming up with the notion of planning problems when the council are a major part of the whole deal, and its them that make decisions on planning? They are hardly going to reject their own plans!!

Andy, I think your point is cynical and unfair. As you were no doubt aware when you made your comment, all the guys there will most likely hail from the Indian subcontinent. Since mass immigration in the 1960s it is unlikely that many, if any, were born here and had that massive football exposure from an early age. Of the recent Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi community here in Suffolk, most I know look blankly when I speak of football as cricket is the main game there. So, I don’t like how you’ve put your point and reading between the lines I don’t like the tone either.

Moving on, Terry Leahy is an Evertonian, but don’t for a minute think that he is pulling the strings on the Kirkby deal, has any influence because he’s an Evertonian or is the guy sat in the balcony giving the thumbs up or down on any decisions to do with the proposed project. Tesco PLC want the Kirkby deal for Tesco PLC in the interests of Tesco PLC. The Everton stadium is merely a means to an end of getting planning permission for one of their stores. No doubt their accountants have worked out a way to lessen the impact of the £50m sweetener through tax breaks. For that reason, why shouldn’t the club listen to what Bestway and their group of directors are saying? At least their site’s in the city Andy, no matter whether they’re lifelong Evertonians or not.

Mark as it says at the beginning of my post it was (the link} taken from another mailbag article on here. who mentioned were they,re from and cricket?

bestway would also only want everton because it would be in their best interests to have us as well.

Lets face it whoever we get in bed with they only want us for their own gain not ours, ive said all along stay at goodison and spend the money on players

"I am a local lad and all my family support Everton so it’s good to be here at last."

Andy;

seeing that the Bestway Group alone is worth £1.7 Billion and they also own outright the biggest bank in Pakistan, are they not worth listening to.
The deal of exclusivity as been the stumbling block to us not knowing of any other interest in the huge Premeirship market place.

I am against sugar daddies coming on board, but a viable buisness group a definatly yes.

There is a new stumbling block with the loop

The Daily Post can reveal that any development on the site will face tough opposition from city centre businesses, including the £1bn Paradise Street development.

They will attempt to veto any significant commercial development that could pose a threat to the economical viability of the city centre retail core.

"I am a local lad and all my family support Everton so it?s good to be here at last."

All his family support Everton but he doesn’t say it himself, so maybe he is a Kopite.

So what? He’s had his Damascus moment now and seen the light, even allegedly turning down more money at Sunderland and Newcastle. Good for him - at least we know he’s not here for the money!

I didnt really care who he supported either dave, i was just trying to put an end to the arguments on this site as to whether he was or wasnt a poolie.
As you say it makes no difference, hes proved that he is not motivated purley by money and that alone is a refershing attitude from a footballer these days

Even if he is/was a kopite it doesnt mean anything. Look at Rush, Fowler, McManaman, Owen etc all moving to the dark side.

Bestway will not happen, Grosvenor estates wont allow it according to this mornings Post. Grosvenor after spending £1billion on the Paradise Street project will not allow another comercial retail development on the outskirts of Liverpool City Centre.

So that leaves Kirby or KEIOC Goodison redevelopment plan.
Dan Mckie

I think its actually, that leaves Kirkby Nick,as we all know that redeveloping Goodison is not an option the club will consider!

the loop will happen if the council want it to happen, and we can make them want it to happen. As for Bestway, as I have mentioned elsewhere I was in contact with Malcolm Carter this morning and he will have the answers to the funding question in the next couple of days, either through myself or a general press release. As soon as I know so will you.

Dan - agreed, I think in the eyes of the board Kirby is the only option.
Steve - though personally I would have loved to see the Bestway site come into being however there is no way LCC will put Grosvenor’s nose out of joint especially after they have invested so much cash in the city, unless of course Bestway are willing to give us the site without the commercial retail development aspect. The conspiracy theorist would say that Grosvenor have just given the council the way out of a scheme they do not want privately.

Having seen the London contact number (a direct line) through the Bestway Director link above, I phoned up Malcolm Carter (Bestway’s Property guy) this morning and while he was understanderably unwilling to give detailed information he did (in broad, vague terms) state the following (either prompted by me or of his own volition): 1) To the best of his knowledge he is unaware of any Evertonians on the Bestway Board. 2) Exploring the Loop site for EFC was not their idea (so LCC’s I assume). 3) For it to be a goer it has the be commerially interesting and viable for Bestway (and other parties) and that is as yet unknown but is urgently being looked into. 4) He is working with LCC to get detailed information on any possible plan (if viable) later this week. 5) He said given the scale of the Project, it would be impossible to put a figure on total cost but hinted it could run into massive numbers and he is unsure where the money would come from. 6) He re-emphasised that Bestway is not a charity and any money they put in would be for their own eventual profit, either directly or indirectly.
I guess the above is not new news to anyone really but felt I should share anyway. Lastly, Malcom Carter did also state that he was getting pestered by ’mischievous press’ and so was understandably circumspect of calls such as mine.

The Grovesnor Estates/Paradise Street project is a retail development. Bestway and Liverpool City Council are well aware of the potential for legal action is they propose a further retail development in such close proximity which is why (as has been stated many times on this and other sites and in the media) they are looking at the enabling developments as being Residential (houses and flats) and Commercial (offices rather than shops).

After all the allegations that the Loop proposal is "just a spoiler" aimed at derailing the Kirkby project, the article in the Post looks like exactly the same thing to me.

I’m in total agreement with Andy Baker.

I really really do NOT WANT to see Everton getting into bed with Tesco or Bestway. I’d rather see the misses get into bed with my brother. We should remain at Goodison for the forseeable.

Personally, coming from Kent, it wouldnt feel like I was going to watch Everton anymore if I had to drive into a large retail park in Kirkby, featuring a souless, ugly stadium alongside a fuck off Tesco’s Extra.

For me, it would all seem so horribly wrong, ghastly even and I know I wouldnt get the buzz I get when I walk through Stanley, up to Park End. sometimes I go into the Spellow if time allows - and buzz is even better because the atmosphere is just so dam good!!

What would I do on the way to the ’Leahy Stadium’? Buy a 4 pack and brunch triple from the sandwich counter in the extra store?!! Its just so hideous isnt it!!!

I drove past Derby’s stadium on the way to the Dales a few months back, and I laughed out loud. It looked absolutely ridiculous perched next to Halfords & B&Q or whatever they were. Pride Park? The name drips with irony!!

And as for this ’Loop - Bestway’ thing. Good god. I’m sorry, but a what a heap of shit. Ive loked on Google maps from above, from different angles - Please!! A stadium perced in the middle of a roundabout???!!

Knock down behind Bullens. Knock down behind behind Park End. Redevelop. Or try and reignite Kings Dock.

Otherwise - what will we say to the children?!!!!
