Just say no

Comments (19)

I am not a scouser and have to thank Bob Latchford for becoming one of the chosen few. I love this club... it brings tears to my eyes in good ways and bad.

Until recently I was cast iron yes vote... I was a yes because the new stadium sounds like no more obtructive views, no sun in my eyes during the 2nd half (if I had a choice of seat). As previously mentioned just living out of the city I am not mixed up in a lot of the emotion.

However, I was lying in bed the other night and it suddenly hit me that my match day routine would just go. The fact that I now bring my 5 year old on the drive and we visit the Elm Tree for a pint, then walk up Spellow Lane.. go say hello to Dixie and then back on ourselves to buy a programme and then to the back of the Park End and but hot dog and chips...watch the players arrive...usually those who aren't playing as they are already there... walk into Bullens Road and give a police horse a stroke and into the ground and to our seats...YES our seats.. that seat is mine and that view that I have had for nearly 20 years is my window on Goodison.

The view has been good with Duncan rising like a salmon in his first game against the shite...its been bad.... Ablett slicing in against Wimbledon. But it MY VIEW and I want it to stay that way. I want to keep craning my neck down to the Park end from the Gladwys St side of the upper Bullens. I want to shade my eyes from the sun like thousands of others ...because I have always done it and I want my lad to experience what I experience.

So some of you reading this might think why is this guy going through step by step what he does on match day I urge you to think about your VIEW and YOUR routine and if you want to preserve it for future games, for future generations then just say NO.

You heard him,if we want future generations to have as crap a view as we do at the match then vote ’no’! I for one wont miss the big white iron girder that blocks my view across the penalty box from the top balcony!

Why d’you want your son to have the same experience as you? Isn’t life about future generations and a brave new world?

I have a 5 yr old son as well, and I dont want him to have the same life experiences as me - this appears to be a very blinkered and somewhat narrow minded viewpoint that is sadly shared by too many.

I for one would vote yes based on this post.

Paul if we go to Kirkby then your match day routine will go something like this.

Drive down East Lancs or M57 and wait in a tail back for a hour to get in to the town.Park up about 2 miles away from the retail park/ground and walk the rest of the way.Not enough parking specs at the ground you see.

With no pubs, cafes, wine bars, lap dancing clubs or any where else to take refreshments you go in to the Tesco Dome.

2.50pm and the ground is still 3/4
empty because a lot of us have given up and the rest are still stuck in traffic. You watch the game and return to find you have a fixed penalty notice for parking in a restricted area.[The council have to make money you know] and now you have to face a 2 hour traffic to get out of
the jewel in Knowsleys crown.

We probably lose 2-0 to Swindon in the fa cup and you feel like ending it all right there.

It wont be a pleasant experience Paul watching football in a one horse town called Kirkby mate but a lot of our fans will vote for it anyway. Some of them have never been there and some of them dont even know where it is but hey BK sold them the dream and thats that.

I thought a father should strive to provide a better future for his children than he had. So you have to change your routine, big deal, get over it. Have you never moved into a new home because you would have to drive down a different street or fill up your car at a different location? Opinions like that make me question the wisdom of giving fans the decision on this matter, since you are voting no because you’re afraid of change.

With respect, you say that you are not mixed up in a lot of emotion, but then give many emotive resons as to why you don’t want to move. Travelling with your son, wanting him to experience what you experience, all based on emotion. I can understand where u are coming from because football is a game based on emotions. But that is a fans perspective, for those within the game and running clubs it’s about money and balance sheets.
Goodison is a wonderful place with many memories for you and your son, would it not be great to create new memorie in a new stadium. Hopefully in many years time you and your son can recall the first derby you saw in everton’s new stadium when we won 4 nil?? Or the first time we paraded a cup around our new stadium.
We all love Goodison, but it is old, it is outdated and upgrading it is not an option. We need to move forward and take off our rose tinted specs when thinking about this ground move.

Tony,

what you should do is buy Goodison Park when we move and open up your very own palm reading and fortune telling shop. You seem to know exactly what will happen even what team we’ll get drawn against in the FA Cup and what the score will be, amazing skills!!!! Can you tell me what traffic will be like for me going home today, I’d like to know what street to avoid and what time to leave to avoid any car accidents.

Please will you yes voters do one and start up your own club.Call it the fucking Kirkby Kavaliers for all I care but leave Everton alone. We dont belong out in the sticks new ground or not.Kirkby is a dump. Its hard to get in and out of now never mind with 22.000
fans or less trying to get there.

The new ground wont be anything like the illuminted lego set you see now it will be much worse and a lot cheaper looking than that.It has to be Bill Kenwrights involved.

If you have yet to decide and have never been to Cherry tree Drive go there now and have a look.I swear you will change your mind in a second.

Come on all you Blacklegs dont desert the real fans now.Vote No to Kirkby. Vote No to BK and Fathead . A vote for Kirkby is a >ticket to the doss house.

Tony,

You’re the one who says you will turn your back on the club if we move, so who’s the real supporters here. We will support Everton no matter what, for you it’s all conditional, so take your own advice. And get this through your skull, the redevelopment of the area will include stores, hotels, and ROADS!!!!! We’re not talking about just throwing a stadium into the location just as it stands now, it’s called redevelopment and improvement. You think every road in England was there since the beginning of time?

Ah tony Tony Tony. You really do amuse me.
your campaign is great..."Yes voters do one". I have never stated what way I would vote so I will assume u were not telling me to "do one.
Kirkby Kavaliers?? I like the sound of that.

Any stadium build will include a complete overhaul of the surrounding infrastructure Tony. You’re being a little reactionary and just a tad over the top mate.

I think moving stadium is a good idea, and I’m not that bothered where we move to, Kirkby or the moon is fine with me. In fact, can we get a vote to move to somewhere alot closer to London please? South West London preferably, I hate travelling across town.

Ye Barksy and fans from around the country are going to stay in a hotel in the middle of Roughwood Kirkby after a game and avoid the bright lights of Liverpool Capital of Culture 2008.You really dont have a clue lad.
David Barks
14   Posted 07/08/2007 at 16:59:03

Answer me this Tony, do you spend all day and night in the hotel, or do you go there to sleep. Is it that impossible to get from Liverpool City Center to 4 miles from Goodison. But you are still operating under the premise that Kirkby will look the same as it does now, just not quite able to grasp the whole redevelopment concept are ya? Here is a definition: To restore (buildings or neighborhoods, for example) to a better condition.

One more thing Tony,

Capital of Culture 2008 is just that, 2008. We are talking about moving in 2010. So no, they would not be staying in hotels newly constructed hotels in Kirkby as they won’t be built yet.

You’re right...... think of the future. Out of town stadiums are not the future, they are the past! They’re knocking them down by the dozen in the US and elsewhere to shoehorn them into downtown locations to act as redevelopment catalysts (sound familiar), and to take full advantage of public transport hubs and networks. Kirkby’s Public transport capacity is 1/10th that of Walton, and miniscule compared to the Loop. This statistic can never change for an end of the line, edge of city site. So yes, please do think of this club’s future!!

I mentioned to my Mum (a born and bred Scouser) the other day about Everton’s proposal to upsticks and move to Kirkby. Her response was "Kirkby???, they play tig with hatchets in Kirkby". Although the old dear doesn’t follow Everton or the shite she clearly recognises that taking the club out of the city would be disasterous. AGGHHHH, I’ve started talking about fucking Kirkby again. Message to self: football only postings!!!!
