Hopes & Fears

Just wondering what all us Evertonians would consider a good season? What were your hopes for the new season at the back end of last term prior to our lack of transfer activity in the summer and have your hopes and ambitions now changed?

I'd hoped we'd move on from last season with a good run in Europe and perhaps finishing 5th? A nice FA cup run also? AND of course a couple of good results against the kopites. I realize that this is ambitious, but we should be looking to improve!

Baines is a good buy and Jags will come in handy, but now with the lack of other quality signings I'm thinking it'd be great if we could scrape into Europe again (without the inter toto) and not embarrass ourselves too much in the UEFA I'll be more than happy!

What about you lot?

I’m with Moyes on this one. I’ll worry about the end of season placing when we pass 40 points.

Id be happy with between 4th and 7th in league, the business end of the Uefa and a bit of a domestic cup run (challenge for the carling or something). I think thats realistic, hope at least 1 more new face before the window closes tho, someone to get the fans going!

I think anyone with any sense would agree with Dan here, league finish anywhere from 4th (ahem!) to 7th has to be the goal. Basically a UEFA spot is what we should always be aiming for - sadly we cant really claim to be going for a CL spot, that was a bit of a fluke when we finished 4th.

A decent cup run I reckon is possible, but winning a cup is a no go cos the big 4 will always pip us, though of course a one-off game ina final and you have a chance.

League: 5th/7th
Domestic Cups: A final would be nice but I doubt it
UEFA Cup: As long as we make the group stage I’ll be happy.

Allan and Dan

I agree with both your predictions.

It would be nice if we could challenge for a UEFA Cup/4th place spot for a few seasons.

But a nice domestic cup run (maybe even a final), and a good UEFA Cup run would certainly add something to the season as well.

Aside from what people have already said, I’d like to see improvements from certain players in the squad (Van Der Meyde and Anichebe particularly). Also hopefully a few impressive performances from Bjarni and the other youngsters, as I can’t see us having much money to spend next season either so it would be nice to find some cheaper alternatives within the squad.
p.s. the reason I want to see more from Van Der Meyde is because it’s about time (obviously) and from Anichebe because he obviously has talent, I just don’t want to see him become another Branch, Cadamateri, Chadwick etc etc.
