Lucky Number Seven?

I know it means little in this day and age but why is Andy Van Der Meyde our Number 7 this season? It seems unlikely that he'll play/be fit much so why him? Give him a crap number and give the Number 7 jersey to an as yet unsigned world class midfielder....

Moyes gave it to him because he thought he could become our next right/left winger and Van der Meyde wanted it because he had it at both Ajax and Inter.

I think if given the chance he will prove a lot of people wrong. He has a world class pedigree. Coming through the Ajax youth system is not easy as you need to be technically ahead of the rest. He established himself in a very good Ajax side who got to the semi finals of the champions league aswell as dominating the dutch league. Since he moved to us his time has not been great but if he gets the chance I think he will impress. Last season I would say he had one average game against Reading other that he looked good and this is when he was only half fit.

Anyway there is no real point in posting articles about him. He is staying for another season and that is that. No one is going to buy him so we may aswell se what he can offer and hopefully it is good.

He needs a good few games and needs them early in the season. Against Bremen he looked like he was trying to hard to make up for 2 crap years, he needs to work hard and play his natural game and earn a place in the team.

Maybe a big ask.

But, we’ve got the number 10 saved for that world class midfielder mate

Thing is Connor, the time he had at Inter he did nothing, thats why they wanted shut. That is a fair few years to have been shite. But,as you say he is here.Maybe he can capture his early Ajax form.
