New Season?

Comments (10)

While I understand that the Stadium debate is vitally important to the future of the club, there is the small matter of the new season starting in less than a week. I think that we need more posts and articles on footballing matters like team shapes, the new players we have and how we will size up against the teams that have replaced half their squads. (This is not a criticism of Toffeeweb as they can only publish what is submitted.)

It is important that we have a good start if we're going to do well, and I'm worried that too much focus on the off the field issues can affect the staff and the players (remember West Ham last season.)

So to start this off, I think the strengthening of defence will allow DM to play 4-4-2 more.

I agree with the 4-4-2, especially on the opening day of the season. We are playing a team who we should be expecting 3 points from and with Cahill out it seams obvious. Give Anichebe a chance to get a good start in the season I reckon.

When we play the likes of Chelsea we should go back to 4-5-1! I think we are gonna do them this season. It has been coming for a while now.

As for Europe I am not sure. Moyes will do the homework im sure!

I agree 442 but we desperately need another playmaker in midfield,i know it was only a pre season and also very hot but i saw the blues at palace the other day and it was back to mostly route 1 stuff, with the exception of arteta.Hopefully we’ll get the argie pretty boy.(Well you never know!)

Err, Pienaar? Have you seen him play? This kids quick and creative, I just hope Moyes gives him a run and doesn’t hold him back too much.

I believe with cahill out, moyes will look to play osman in the cahill role behind aj. i do not believe jags will start.

He will go with 4-5-1 until we get vaughny back. the team for the weekend will be-

Howard

Hibbo Yobo Lescott Nuno

Pienaar Cars Nev Arteta
Ossy

AJ
Gavin

I think he should play 442 at home, I can see them targeting johnson and playing him out of the game if we play with 1 up front. We do not have enough players who can score from midfield at the min so I can see us struggling.

I say 442 and play the following:

Howard
RB - Jaga
CB - Jobo
CB - Lescott
LB - Nuno
LM - Pienaar
CM - Carsley
CM - Osman
RM - Arteta
ST - Johnson
ST - Anichebe

I am not happy with ossy in the middle as I think he is too lightweight. Anyone else is either defensive, too young or playing out of position.
Looking at our squad we need a creative midfielder and a striker.

I hate having Carsley and Neville in the centre together, it’s so lacking in creativity. We really do need Pienaar to take some of the weight from Arteta’s shoulders if he starts, which hopefully he will. I agree Osman is too lightweight to play in the middle usually but I can see him being quite effective in the Cahill role behind Johnson providing we keep the ball on the ground (wishful thinking i know). Let’s just find a way to take advantage of Titus Bramble.

Allan, Graham, you know Moyes favours Neville in midfield, what makes you think that he’s going to play him in the back 4?

And Gavin, no way is Moyes going to leave Neville out of the side altogether!
