From horses mouth re Bestway site possibility
Comments (4)
I spoke with Malcolm Carter (Bestway?s Property guy) this morning and while he was understanderably unwilling to give detailed information to me he did (in broad, vague terms) state the following (either prompted by me or of his own volition):
-
To the best of his knowledge he is unaware of any Evertonians on the Bestway Board.
-
Exploring the Loop site for EFC was not their idea (so LCC?s I assume).
-
For it to be a goer it has the be commercially interesting and viable for Bestway (and other parties) and that is as yet unknown but is urgently being looked into.
-
He is working with LCC to get detailed information on any possible plan (if viable) later this week.
-
He said given the scale of the Project, it would be impossible to put a figure on total cost but hinted it could run into massive numbers (9 figures I imagine) and he is unsure where the money would come from.
-
He re-emphasised that Bestway is not a charity and any money they put in would be for their own eventual profit, either directly or indirectly.
I guess the above is not new news to anyone really but felt I should share anyway. Lastly, Malcom Carter did also state that he was getting pestered by ?mischievous press? and so was understandably circumspect of calls such as mine.

I am sorry but what has being an Evertonian got to do with it. For gods sake are you stupid enough to think Tesco Terry is being benevolent to us because if he was he would not have his job for long he is paid to look after Tesco and by all accounts its a well paid job that he does well .so why would he risk losing it,do you think he lays in bed of a night thinking how can I help Everton if Tesco needed a site in the city and the red shite where willing to act as partners he’d drop us his only interest is tesco shareholders and that’s how it should be,Bestway are not a charity and neither are Tesco like every company their own agenda is what matters

Andy it dose not change one thing.ITs a pointless question the bottom line should be whats best for Everton Kenwright is a Evertonian but his leadership is a sham I can appreciate that both sides on the move have opinions but asking the guy is he a evertonian is about as useful as Tony s if you vote for the move you are not a evertonian its school ground stuff all I hope is people wait and listen to both sides and don’t vote blind just know both sides before voting,as in the end we both want whats best as we are all Everton fans

When a move is largely reliant on the commercial viability of supporting partners it is of course to a large degree irrelevant whether they are Evertonian or not. The focus here was intended to find out (if at all possible) where the money for a Loop Site sucessful development would possibly come from. My chat with Mr Carter did not suggest he had the answers re this, and as suspected there appears to be grave doubt about where the money would come from full stop....no surprises there I guess and as stated not new news really.
