England centre back dilemma

Comments (6)

Interesting to see that McClaren is begging Carragher not to retire from the England scene and is now reported to be begging Sol Cambell to come back in from the cold now there is an injury crisis.

I may be biased, but does it not seem an ideal chance to blood a young, hungry and above all talented centre half who plys his trade at Goodison? I think we all know it. Will it happen? I'm sceptical, McClaren seems to be a bit blinkered a la Sven. Phil Nev to have a word in his ear methinks!

If he continues to play like he did last season, I’m happy for him to stay under the radar. If it’s realised what an incredible defender he is someone might try and buy him and take him away from us. Also he might get injured. Having said that though, if he was called up I’d be delighted for him as I’m sure it’d mean a lot to the lad.

Unfortunatley for a long time now its reputations that get you picked for England and not how well you play! When was the last time Lampard played well or even Rooney but everyone knows that come a competitive match that no England manager has the balls to pick the players playing the best!

Im sorry but I cant see the clamour for wanting one of our players in that over hyped media joke that is now the England team..Rooney first broke into the team at Everton and all we ever heard was that he could never stay at Everton after he had been capped by that mighty football nation that is England..Same went for Barmby..Everything is going perfectly well for Lescott at Everton right now and whilst he will obviously someday want to play for England the day that comes will be the day he will have his head turned by the usual bums..Even the fucking media tried to flog AJ off to West Ham this summer..Let them do well for Everton, sod England as far as I am concerned..I get much more joy anyway watching the Brazils and Frances and Argentinas of the world..Where the players actually learn technical ability before how to parade their wife in every paper/ T.V programme we see..Lescott needs a solid second season to back up his first, thats all he must concentrate on.

If our players can’t get into the England squad while playing for us then nobody will want to come to us for that reason, same with our Spaniards!

But in reality, Lescott was only a sub in that England B game a while back, so I don’t think McLaren really likes him.

Sadly I think some of the sentiments aired regarding other clubs coming prowling may well ring true. However, having quality internationals plying your trade for you could in the past raise the profile of your club to attract better players. Sadly in todays name you have to spunk money at them. A Catch 22 sitauation, a situation that tells players that you CAN be an international whilst playing for this club, or a shop window for moves to ’bigger clubs’? Aren’t we a cynical lot!
