Cynical.....?

Comments (22)

Am I just being cynical here..... Can't help thinking that the "double swoop" for Fernandez and Yakubu has come at the right time for the club who are sending ballot papers out this week? A deal sweetener or a nice PR story released to prove to fans the club are doing something?

I'll believe it when i see the players in an Everton shirt. Until then, the story should be treated with a very big pinch of salt.

Isn't it strange we all have our voting forms the same time as we are being linked with £11 million pound players? COYB.

The bid for 'Lucho' was all a smokescreen to divert attentions away from the the £19m combo of Yakubu and Fernandes, both deals are close to being completed and both should figure in the first game of the season. Also could this be the first time the Number 9 shirt has been vacant for the start of a season?

Alexis Blue, you got a source big fella?

Alexis Blue...firstly you say a deal is close for both and then ask whether it will be the first time the number 9 shirt has been vacant.

Surely if the 1st part of your reply was correct the 2nd part would be wrong as i would assume yakubu wouldd be number 9?

From Sky Sports:

"I am happy at Benfica and now I am only thinking about a good season ahead," he commented

So I dare say - forget it!

Alexis Blue...sniff, sniff..sniff whats that smell?. I know..Its bullshit... There is totally no chance of Everton getting either of these mate, let alone one of them..As for them being ready for Saturday?. Hahahaha..it took a week to complete the Baines deal and that was relatively quick for Everton..I would love both of these to sign for us but I know it is only a smokescreen that sadly even the Echo reporters a falling for these days..

In fairness if you go on the Porto Official site there leading story is that they have rejected a bid from Everton for Lucho.

Cant imagine they’d have any reason to do our board and favour and run a fabricated story.

There is no conspiracy, theres no false bids, nothing. People on this site need to grow up a bit. We made a bid for Lucho, they turned it down. We’ve made bids for Yakubu and Manny, we await their comeback - end of.

How would Everton just bidding for these players get the ’no’ voters on side anyway? Signing them maybe, but not just bidding!

But how has moving ground got anything to do with buying players? If the no voters are basing their vote on the players we buy then something’s up!!

Allan, have we actually made genuine bids for the 2 players?Or are you just going by what was said in the papers, to be true?

Some people are just miserable individuals who can only see negative. They said we never bid for Lucho, yet his team have said they rejected the bid and worked out a new contract with the player. Now what, BK controls what a Portuguese club says? Grow up people, if you hate Everton so much then get lost. You said the board would just push through the move to Kirkby, but they gave you a vote. You said said they would try to trick you with the question, but it is straight forward. You said they would not abide by the vote, but they have announced that it will be handled by an independent body and the vote will be binding. Any time we bid for a player you call it a smoke screen. You said we were waiting to announce the signing of Smith until the ballots were announced, bullshit. Grow up.

Brian, just because the club dont talk about it directly doesnt mean that the reports are wrong. Its reported on both Sky Sports News and the BBC site, both sources that I trust so therefore I’d say yes, we have made bids for Yakubu and Manny.

Well said David Barks, some people on here do my head in! I believe most if not all things that come out of Everton and if some of it turns out not to be true or if it turns out we dont have the best season, ill still be renewing my ticket again next year and the year after and so on! So hope we get Manny and Yakubu tho :)

Its got something to do with the move because we have seen this type of PR stunt done by the clib many times in the past. Its used as a smoke screen or a feelgood PR story to divert negative attention from other things going on at the club.

As i said, it it happens great, but im not biting on this until they are on the park

Hooray for Dan McKie, David Barks and Allan, supporters after my own heart.

If we move to Kirkby I’m sure they’ll all be there supporting the team and not sitting in the garden pouting like a 3 year old, Pet lips all round for that lot I say.

Dunno about everybody else but if we’ve got £10 mil to spend on one player I’d rather they spent it on someone whose worth it!!....someone like say....Robbie Keane!!...before anyone says he’s not for sale...neither is Yakubu, remember that age old addage..’every player has his price’....anyway just a thought..

It says the following on the bbc website which doesn’t necessarily mean there has been a bid:

"Everton have made an enquiry about Middlesbrough’s £10m-rated striker Yakubu, BBC Sport understands.

Boss David Moyes wants to strengthen his attacking options after selling James Beattie to Sheffield United and losing James Vaughan to injury.

Moyes is now expected to follow up his interest with a firm bid, testing Middlesbrough’s resolve to keep the 24-year-old Nigerian"

I imagine the conversation went something like this:
DM: Hi Gareth, is Yakubu available?
GS: Err, possibly David, make me an offer
DM: Well, Gareth, I was thinking of say £6mill up front and the remiander over 5 years
GS: [phone goes dead]

Anthony Newell you have probably hit the nail on the head..Not once does it say Everton have actually made a bid for Yakubu. Only an enquiry and if we got excited about evet enquiry we have made over the years then we wouldnt think stright ( not like we do anyway ). I dont think theres much chance of us getting Yakubu or Fernandes really..Its just eyecatching gossip as with Gonzalez..I expect to hear no more of it once Southgate say he is not for sale..Fernandes looks set to stay at Benfica..

Wait until tomorrow and you’ll see :-)

Denis.. Im sure if we were interested in Mido by now we would have heard something concrete..He’s been for sale all summer..The mere fact you have mentioned Oster means your mail is a complete jest..Oh it was meant to be a jest? :-)
