Why does computer say no? Are you going to start complaining now we are trying to sign players? He has a very good scoring record, pace and is very strong 12million may be a lot but thats what we’ll have to pay to get him if Boro will sell i think he’ll be a great signing.

So it would seem we are truly interested in Yakubu, despite Boro’s posturing this one could well follow a well worn path. Player requests to speak with the manager, explains he’s no longer happy. Another club makes an enquiry - the club insist he’s not for sale then accede to the players demands insisting on a huge transfer fee. The question is, will Everton match the asking price? I personally think he would make a tremendous signing.

Yeah but if you read between the lines on this I think its Everton just playing us again as they did two years ago with Owen and Kuyt...Everton have made an enquiry but club officials ( of Everton ) have insisted they have not made a firm bid and Everton are now unlikely to continue their interest after Boro have said Yakubu is not for sale..Its shit like this though that makes the fans really pissed off with the way Everton are run..Publicity stunts..They knew Boro were never going to let their star striker go days before the season begins and without even making a firm bid its made big headlines so once again Evertons board can say they are striving to push the club forward..Unless they get a striker and Fernandes then Im sorry but this summer will have proved unsatisfactory as far as I am conerned..We have not done anywhere near enough..We need a big eyecatching signing to feel that buzz and excitment and have some real hope of making an impact this year..Its all very well saying we finished 6th last season but clubs have strengthened considerably..We need to make something happen..Enquiries are not enough Everton..DO MORE!!!

I wish I could be as positive as you Gerry. The question you have to ask yourself where’s this so called money come from? Is this another propaganda stunt by our wonderful board to try and gain some more ’yes’ votes, by creating the ’feelgood’ factor. The timing of it is criminal- 3 days to the start of the season! and let’s be realistic here are Middlesbrough going to sell their best striker, with Viduka gone in the same respect would we sell Johnson?
I wish I could be more positive, but our transfer speculation is becoming tiresome. On all accounts Everton made an enquiry and did not make an offer. Remember only a couple of weeks ago Moyes was saying that the whole market was’inflated’ thus saying we would niot pay these type of prices. We all kniow we need acouple of players, but I wish our club would not keep on making us a laughing stock-Smith,Koumas,Gonzalez,Yakubu,Nugent,Fernandes to name just a few this summer..........who really knows who we are after. Anyway here’s hoping!

Robbie, I think you misinterpreted my post. I think Yakubu would be a brilliant signing and I’d LOVE him at Everton. What I meant was, that Boro are blocking the move - for computer says no, read Boro says no!

And what about Vogel? I reckon he could still figure on the Everton transfer roundabout. I got a feeling once again deadline day arrives and a day at work is wasted reading all about the new signings. Hmm...maybe not.
Allan
8   Posted 08/08/2007 at 22:28:14

I still reckon we’ll sign a player or 2 before the end of August, maybe not before Saturday but before September. Vogel, Yakubu, Szetela, that French fella, the Belgian geezer or even maybe my Nan (who is STILL out of contract)
Roy Harvey
9   Posted 08/08/2007 at 22:31:21

Let’s hope we do sign a player or two before September! By the way Allan, your nan is out of contract cos she’s rubbish. My nan could do the business though in place of Van der Meyde!!
Allan

Back off Roy, my Nan could take your Nan down easy so watch it!! In other news, have a look at this link and tell me Yakubu isn’t one scary looking mutha!

Ray "We need a big eyecatching signing to feel that buzz and excitment"

That is exactly what we don’t need, thats like a heroin addict saying he needs one last hit before he can quit.

Everton need good quality signings that improve but also complement our current squad. Signings are not to create a ’buzz’ but improve the team. That quote highlights my main criticism of the blue-sceptics out there. Everyone has been criticising left right and centre about the lack of signings, any comments such as we are an improving team, wait til 31st August to vent your feelings our all blown out of water. The reason for this is...your bored, you need a buzz, a quick fix until the season starts so want a new player.

Also, Everton and with it BK, DM and KW have not came out saying we tried to sign so and so. Newspapers have. Gonzalez was I believe a shot in the dark. We dont have a clue what Everton a planning but you can still criticise it. I’m neither supporting or criticisng as there is still 20 days of trading left, and plenty of players futures still to be decided.

On Yakubu however, I hope not for one reason, he will score 10 goals in 10 games then go 15 games without a goal. That was one James Beatties problem. We need player who will be consistant, especially with a small squad. Yak for 5-6 mil would be decent however I would prefer someone like Ezquerro for free as he can play in midfield or attack, is creative, would be a good foil for AJ, has Euro experience and that would leave us with money to wait for a better option to become available in future, if we do have money why spend all at once. However A push for Fernandes would make us much more a force in Europe. Or what about Henrik Larsson, maybe he could be convinced to give the Premiership one last go.

At last, someone else who wants Santi Ezquerro at the club! I’ve been bleating on about him for days and now someone agrees with me - nice one Oliver. I’ve seen alot of Ezquerro and he’s a class act, proper skilful and full of running - he’d be a star in the PL.

Sky Sports say Boro have rejected a bid of at least £10m for Yakubu. Now whether thats true or not, I dont honestly believe we will end August without getting a big name striker. As people have quite rightly mentioned Boro arent going to sell him 3 days before the season, but then everyone has got a price, they have got time for a replacement and if EFC are serious £12.5m would surely get him. I reckon Yakubu and AJ would guarantee 25-30 league goals, and with the talented midfield chipping in, Top 6 again would be well within reach, which is surely all the rest can realistically aim for anymore.

Why cant we buy mido for 6m?

He is a great player and worth 6m.

15   Posted 08/08/2007 at 22:35:27

Scary Indeed. Does anyone really think Yakubu is going to be staring the ball into the net for us this season though? Also, totally unrelated, Smith signing for Newcastle and teaming up with Viduka is going to make for the slowest pair of forwards ever. I reckon even Stubbs could catch em!

16   Posted 08/08/2007 at 22:45:35

They’ve rejected our bid anyway...
Allan
17   Posted 08/08/2007 at 22:47:02

Cos Mido is a miserbale Egyptian git - bad attitude apparently and I have that on good authority from a Spurs fan who says most Spurs fans would be glad to see the back of him for that precise reason. He’s almost as bad as Ghali apparently and that is the funniest transfer fuck up I’ve ever seen!

My Nan.

Why are we looking at another African player ? I’ll admit I’m being short-sighted and Yakubu would be a good signing (complimenting any of the strikers who play along side him), but we’ll lose possibly 3 players to the African Nations Cup next year, when hopefully we’re still battling on 4 fronts.

19   Posted 08/08/2007 at 23:19:01

Forget these signings lads - it’s more PR. We don’t have the money, simple as that. If we did have this money all summer, why did we get outbid for Koumas etc? And if we really wanted Fernandes all summer and had the money, surely DM would have got him in early, not after we have played all our pre-season games and 3 days before the season? I’m not having it...

20   Posted 08/08/2007 at 23:25:47

Danny, good point about the manny rumour....Y didnt we get him earlier?? Moyes himself has said he wanted players in early for pre-season....I wanted to believe these latest bids but now i reckon its actually bolax and all for the kirkby ballot (which by the way I’m saying no to-not coz of the area, more so coz I dont like the stadium and it only holds 10,000 more people?!)
Garry
21   Posted 08/08/2007 at 23:36:30

Danny, I couldn’t be happier that we didn’t go for Koumas. He may prove me wrong this season, but he hasn’t set the world alight and look who he’s signed for - surely if he was to become a world beater, other teams around the top 6 would be sniffing around.

If everyone takes a step back for a minute, while I conceed that this summer has been frustrating in the extreme, I think we’ve done well to miss out on (or be priced out, or show not interest etc) of a couple of deals. Nuggent looked good at Preston, but it’s a lot of money to pay for a guy unproven in the Prem. Barton may be in jail in a few weeks. Richardson is shit. The only exception may have been Smith, who I think will do well once he gets regular football at cetnre forward again.

So on the face of it, out of all the players we’ve been linked with, who would all the moaners out there actually have wanted us to sign??
Danny Broderick
22   Posted 09/08/2007 at 00:01:34

I agree Garry. I didn’t actually want Koumas, especially for the money talked about, but Moyes was interested in him. And you must acknowledge that the market has gone crazy, and if we are to keep pace, we have to pay these inflated values or miss out. Sunderland have just paid £9,000,000 for a rookie keeper. If £6,000,000 was too much for Koumas, surely rumours of £10,000,000 + for Yakubu are over inflated too? Or £10,000,000 for Manny?
I am not judging the players we have missed out on, my point is simply why have we missed out on them if the money has been there all summer? It’s very valiant to refuse to pay these prices, but if we end up paying over the odds for players now, we will have missed out on those players for no valid reason. I personally don’t think we have any money anyway...

top striker, 1 every 2.4 games, closest thing in the prem to 20 goals a season and not playing for one of the big clubs....buy him and Fernandes he he!!

Steve, fully respect your comments, I too have to confess that to date I’ve been somewhat suspicious of big name signings and the influence these might have on voting intentions. However, since I posted more details have been published. It now seems that Yakubu has not simply said he was unhappy but it would appear he’s demanding a transfer. These situations do have a habit of resolving themselves. Occasionally the player gets offered more money to stay but invariably they choose a move away-attracted to the highest bidder. We may be about to find out if the club are genuinely interested in their pursuit of the player. I’ve no idea what his relationship is like with Yobo but it’s not beyond the bounds of reason that Moyes may have in fact used him as a sounding-board. Up to now a number of clubs have apparently made enquiries to Boro which they’ve rejected and according to reports the player himself was happy to remain. It does seem strange that now that Everton have come knocking he’s changed his mind.

Alot of talk is mentioned of the big fees that were quoted for the likes of Koumas and Richardson ect: but if I was a Sunderland fan now I would be sitting there in complete dismay at my club for paying 9 million pound out on a goalkeeper..Its not as though the ten out field players they have is on a par with Chelsea..What utter madness..

26   Posted 09/08/2007 at 09:50:19

Danny (And others) if you open your tiny minds for one second and think that mayeb, just maybe, we didn’t have the money ALL summer and that funds have only recently been made available?? Robert Earls name has recently appeared on the board of directors; he was supposed to be a sleeping partner but now his name has popped up could certainly point to an injection of cash in recent days.

Try not to be so paranoid and have a little faith in yuor club for pity’s sake!

Allan. Maybe it’s you with the tiny mind - you obviously can’t accept other people’s point of view. Why bother posting notes in an open forum if you are so narrow minded?

Ray, good point well made, lol.
Just because I was given an unfortunate name at birth (abandoned under an arch near a pub in swaddling clothes)it gives you no right to call me a fuck head, whatever that means....
However I apologise for suspecting your devotion to our dear red neighbours.
But if you are a blue, or even a football supporter, please be a bit more positive about life and maybe even the REAL World. Cheer up and maybe your posts on this site will make people want to take you a bit more seriously.
Be happy my friend.

Ray, if I was a Sunderland fan I would have complete faith in the judgement of Roy Keane.
They were struggling when he took charge, and now they are in the Premiership, I certainly wouldn’t bet against them staying up this season.
As for Everton, obviously we are short of numbers, and more quality additions would be welcome, however I think we all know Yakubu will be staying at Boro, at least until January, when they can find a replacement.
