The Mail Bag
Slow but steady

I'm as critical as anybody about the way things seem to be going at the club generally and the obvious stadium debate but looking at the playing side is it really that bad? In our squad now we have some excellent, young players in most positions and a number of strong, utility men who can do a job when called upon. I know that the squad lacks depth but lets face facts Everton cant afford a squad like the top clubs because of the financial divide.
Despite one or two obvious learning points (which is par for the course for any young manager steping up) Moyes is smart, getting smarter and most importantly he has a plan - main problem is its got to be incremental and long term but theres nothing he can do about that. He is slowly but surely assembling the best squad of players that we have seen in 20 years at EFC. We have a back 5 that is looking unbelievable and we are only 3 or 4 players from adding the necessary depth to the whole squad for the Premier League and a few good cup runs.
If we get into Europe on a regular basis we will need more players of course but that will come in time. Slowly but (most importantly) surely we are assembling one of the best young squads in the Premier League. I work all over the country and believe me we are no longer seen as the laughing stock that we have been oustide of our great city for the past decade. I no longer have to anticipate a negative reaction when I tell supporters of other clubs that I am a proud blue. I used to get shit in Leicester for gods sake! Lets look forward and trust Mr Moyes - the same trust doesnt extend to Kenwright and Wyness by the way!
