The 'Loop'

Comments (13)

Keith Wyness has recently posted an open letter on the club's website asking for clarity on the proposed 'trumpet loop' site off Scotland Road. I would like to echo his words as he asks some good, challenging questions that I feel require answering.

I went along to the KEOIC presentation of proposed sites and wasn't that impressed. They had little in the way of financial solution - which, lets face it, is the biggest key in all of this.

We can't stay at Goodison, there simply the infrastructure or room to expand. We also do not have the money as a business to redevelop the stadium without the help of massive business partners. That comes in the form of Tesco's, JJB and Knowsley council - and I say grab it with both hands, every other club would. Also, I dont see KEIOC putting their hands in their pockets or LCC for that matter.

For me, its far to late in the day to propose a site such as the 'loop' - it requires purchasing, developing, Compulsary purchase, more roads etc. Its just not viable and its a horrible, narrow minded tactic to thawte an honest ballot of the most loyal fans.

Goodison is my church, I have many happy memories and I have many sad memories. People have been wed there and people have had their ashes scattered there. But that aside, the club is still here now and the club has to secure a future - the past is history, nothing more, and its time to create more history by moving onwards and upwards. A new stadium, new revenue, new partnerships and investments can only enable us to compete at the highest levels.

Ask yourself one simple question 'why are American / Russian / Icelandic billionaires queuing up to buy West Ham/Portsmouth/Villa and Leicester!?' Why are they bypassing Everton?' - the answer, because the first thing any new owner will have to do is fund a stadium. Most investors will be put off by this and would rather spend elsewhere or wait. New stadium will be an attraction as it wont cost and investor a penny! (Possibly)...

Just read our CEO's letter on the OS, and have to say that it has only served to strengthen my resolve to vote No to Kirkby. The patronising way in which he dismisses the Loop site and disrespects all associated with it is a disgrace.

If Everton should move to Kirkby, and then win a trophy, how willing would the council be to grant Mr Wyness' request for an open top bus tour of the city and a St George's Hall reception for the fans? Somehow Kirkby Town Hall ? with respect ? isn't the same.

Kieth Wyness is wound up; however, all of his points are compltely valid. It is intresting to see that even the miniscule current Kirkby design will not fit on this footprint and therefore not provide the necessary retail/housing development space.

I suggest people look at this letter, lets hope Bestway come up with something better today otherwise they are going to look like complete idiots with a tin pot proposal like KEIOC's.

Well, he's living up to a reputation the much publicised government 'spin doctor' would be proud of!

I've tried to stay as neutral as possible over the past few weeks with regards to the stadium debate. I have my own views and have attempted to take in as many facts as possible before making my final decision. However - this mornings column on the clubs "Official" website really gets on my preverbial tits....

The CEO of the Everton FC organisation has used the main interface with the clubs fan base as a tool to manipulate his business plan, and i for one think that this is unacceptable. Whats more, in his 'article' where he pours scorn on the whole feasibility of the 'tunnel loop' redevelopment (to confuse the neutral supporter) he actually has the audacity to raises a number of questions with a tongue in cheek inference, with a slant to ridicule the whole idea.

These are, infact, the very questions he should be asking on the supporters behalf, obtaining definative answers and communicating them back, in a concise and understandable manner. The upshot being that we might very well then have a PLAN B to vote upon!!!

And on that matter - I challenge anyone to tell me, in what modern business does anyone, at any level of management, make recommendations without a investigated contingency plan??? It just doesn't happen and you'd be shot down by any decision maker you presented to.

The past few days 'propaganda' (some of the more cynical, would even mute failed bids for world class players as being part of this) presented officially by the club has really turned my opinion of the current incumbents of our great club. What sets us apart from everyone else is the way we go about our business. Even Blue Bill has commented on the "Everton way" in recent months. Unfortunately what's coming out of the place at the moment is more of the "treat them like mushrooms" ilk.

This is too important an issue to have such a short to mid term view upon!!!

I have just read the bollocks from Mr Wyness on the offial site about the Scotland Road move. He, Mr Tesco and others seem hell bent on moving the club out of Liverpool at any cost. trying to rubbish a viable alternative is an underhand way of trying to force people into voting for the move, or using the tactic of "big money signings" on the eve of the vote is disgraceful. If it takes another year or two, so what? it is far more important to get it right and in my humble oppinion the club must remain in Liverpool, or the chant "there is only one team in Liverpool", will cut very deep.

It seems that feathers have been ruffled. While I believe it raises some important questions regarding this possible new site the overall tone is clearly less than positive. It seems that KW is acting swiftly to pick holes in this new proposal and to put doubts into peoples minds. After reading the letter I can't help feel that Evertonians are being put under even more pressure to go for Kirkby. In the letter he also states....

"Why, if the site is, indeed, both deliverable and suitable, is it only now being touted as a viable possibility? We, as a Club, have been engaged in talks with Knowsley Borough Council and Tesco about the possibility of relocating to Kirkby for the best part of 18 months and yet only now has this site been put forward as a possible alternative"

If they did put forward this alternative we could not have listened to it anyway due to our "exclusivity agreement". To me it stinks...

Dear Keith,

Many thanks for your letter, which I read with great interest. It strikes me however that had you not signed an Exclusivity deal with Tescos, that EFC may well have had an opportunity to investigate such issues (relating to this and any other proposed site) and that therefore you would have the answers you seek.

Do you not think it ironic that the questions you ask are questions which you have not yourself answered in your 'Information Release' to the voters in this ballot? It is my sincere hope that you have answers for these questions re: Kirkby and that you are not basing your support for the move on the opinion of a couple of footballers: as good a footballer as Mikel Arteta is I am yet to see evidence of his ability to be the CEO of a multi-million pound business!

I am furthermore appalled that you feel justified in calling into question this solution when by your own words you clearly do not have sufficient information! How then have you judged the lack of suitabililty of this site?

In conclusion, I am astounded that a man of your undoubted experience would have made such basic errors in judgment; perhaps however it is not too late. Might I suggest that you either start doing your job properly or failing that, you resign?

Your Sincerely

Rupert Sullivan

Is Warren Bradley really an Everton fan? Why has he come out of the hat at the last minute to pull all sorts of strings to prevent us making progress and moving? Where was he a year ago? I'm getting a bit sick of him parading around stating sweeping statements about what he thinks is right and wrong. Wouldn't suprise me if he's getting a backhander from Bestway.

The loop looks crap, I'd rather be in Kirkby than there. Liverpool council has just realised that Everton mean business and they're sick of the lack of options or support they've received so they've made the decision to go ahead without them. They had years to come up with something ever since the Kings Dock fiasco and start throwing crackpot schemes together a week before a decision is made which determines our future.

The 'wait and see' approach ain't gonna work, it's been going on ever since the Peter Johnson's era and there's nothing out there. Wait no longer, new stadium it is. Look at the new academy the board has build, isn't that awesome compared to what we had before?

Face it, the loop ISN'T going to happen even if Kirkby falls through ? the board won't entertain it, look at Keith's response on the official website. If no is the answer the outcome will be a few more years of arsing about whilst every other club moves on. Worst case, the final proposal could be even further away with no fan vote ? how's the Everton Runcorn Stadium sound?

Give the board some credit ? vote yes or no based on the concrete proposal on the table. The choice is yours.....

It amuses me greatly at the way Buster's questions are put in such a negative and suspicious way towards the project... suprise suprise!

One question in particular stands out regarding the infrastructure not coping with the traffic.... The Loop is as he calls it a 'rabbit' out of a hat and is is the very first stages of discussion. The kirkby project has been discussed for 18 months and bully hasnt answered that question about his own plan. Just find it laughable that he can ask such questions when really theres just as much left unclear with the kirkby project that the masterminds at everton have worked on for 18 months.

Roll on saturday....

The advocates of the Kirkby move often warn against "emotion". Football feeds on emotion. Would you get 40000 gates to watch a chess match?. I just can’t get over the fact that when a group of Blues gather together at do’s, in wedding halls or kitchens at parties etc we can never again raise the roof with the ’Battle Hymn of Everton Football Club’. Altogether now, one last time -
’We’re the lads from Goodison that you all know
We’re the boys from the banks of the ......Alt!’
And from where will our children be hanging the Kopites?

The loop reminds me of an ex-girlfriend.

Tight and hard to get into.

Wyness has a job to do at Everton and his life outside of his job is not Everton. This is the opposite of most of us.

Consequently he has pinned his colours to the mast with regards to Kirby and now has to follow through; that is his job. Hence I would not expect him to welcome with open arms alternatives at this point.

Like people employed in other jobs if his plan does not come off he may well reconsider his position. A no vote may be the end for Wyness. Personally I do not think this will happen, but until the vote is over and done with he will not consider anything else and if the vote is yes, he doesn’t have to. If, on the otherhand it is no then he has some thinking to do and will need good PR to win people back.

Every question KW puts forward on the Liverpool loop site is valid. He would not be doing his job if he just ignored it.KW is probably the only person who is looking at this move unemotionally and without a fans prejudice, just purely as a business man looking to increase the wealth of the company he works for, as any business man /person would. It is this fact, though unpalatable to many, that makes him the perfect instigator for moving Everton forward financially, whether that is within Liverpool or moving to Kirkby.
I would rather trust KW than Warren Bradley and the bodge it LCC.

I would just like to ask KW.Instead of spouting on the website. If you want to know the answers to your questions concerning the loop, heres an idea! Why don’t you get of your arse, and sit down with LCC and Bestway and ask them for the answers to your questions. His letter was just another ploy to try and swing the vote.We(anti-fans) are always being told we are negative. So what is Wyness being in his letter? He shoots down all the proposals without actually knowing the answers,to me thats being negative. There is actually more to this Kirkby deal that we are not being told about.
