Manny ? Part ownership?
Comments (20)
Just read on this Portuguese website that we have offered €9M for Manuel Fernandes. I think that is around £6M which would pay for Benfica's half of Fernandes. Are we allowed to only own 50% of the player or would we have to buy the rest of the part owner? From what I have heard we are going in for him but it is going to take time because the premier league will have to get involved.
It does look like this is more than speculation considering it has appered in such places as The Echo, Portuguese news papers, Sky Sports News etc. Hopefully we can get him in and kick on with the season.

I can’t see him coming to be honest and all the news outlets reporting it all seem to be getting it from the same source as everyone that I’ve read more or less write word for word.

It reads:
?Manuel Fernandes and Léo could leave Benfica?
MORE NIGHTMARES
Everton and Man City prepared to pay the 9 million clause for the midfielder. (NOTE: 9 million would be EUROS? not sure if the clause refers to a release figure and whether that is just the part Benfica would receive, given the third party ownership).
And here?s another link from today?s Jogo paper giving more detail about the story.

The translation is:
Everton wants to sign Manuel Fernandes. The English club where the red player played in the second half of last season is willing to go to nine million euros to guarantee the services of the midfielder, whose contract is shared between Benfica and the investment fund, GSA. Valencia is also in the race for the player.
The British club is, at this time, in conversations with Benfica. The club chairman, Bill Kenwright, is leading the negotiation. And, after having the offer for the Dragon (Porto?s nickname) Lucho González refused, the leader of the "blues" wants to guarantee a replacement quickly, especially because the English league starts the day after tomorrow. Bill Kenwright is currently in London trying to ensure the signing of the Middlesbrough striker Yakubu whilst simultaneously opening negotiations for the Portuguese international.
Already last January the Everton chairman tried to guarantee Manuel Fernandes’ loan for one more season, but that scenario did not appeal to the player whilst Benfica were also not receptive, putting too high a price on the contract.
Now the objective is really to purchase the midfielder in an effort by Bill Kenwright that will satisfy the manager David Moyes’s, whilst also increasing his popularity with the fans who had earlier "asked for" Manuel Fernandes’ continuity.
At this time, the Portuguese international midfielder is considered one of the main elements of the Benfica team for the manager, Fernando Santos. However, that doesn’t mean that a transfer is considered non-negotiable.

although i do have to say though that there is no place in football for a group like the gsa and joorbichian.
they complicate matters , inflate prices and are nothing more than financial vampires. parasites on the world of footballs arse.
i dont like dealing with them at all !

I wouldn’t read too much into Boro signing Mido, they were after Smith and before this anyway and I’m sure they’re interested in replacing Viduka first.

By the way though, they would not have sold their 50% of the player for less than ?9M or 6M pounds, so I can’t see how we could have got him for less than 12M sterling. I know everyone loved him, and I think he’s a good player. But personally I wouldn’t say he was worth that much. Isn’t that 4 Mikel Arteta’s ?

Let’s just cross our fingers and wait and see. I think I’m sick to death of speculation!
We need to get behind the team on saturday, a win is a must.

I agree Baines will do well, much as it hurts that we have to pay so much to get a decent left back nowadays. I hope he gets a regular starter in front of him as opposed to the merry go round we had at left mid last season.

Who do you think will/should play wide left? I see Kilbane is supposed to be playing left back against on Saturday
20 Posted 10/08/2007 at 18:43:21
Bet Arteta can’t wait to get out there knowing Kilbane is supposed to try and stop him !

I reckon we’re better buying him outright anyway.
MSI - Bad for football. On a different note if Kia Joorbichian and his band of ’investors’ ever come near our club we should chase them with a big stick.
