Open Response to CEO

Comments (11)

Dear Keith,

Many thanks for your letter (http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/ceo-open-letter.html) which I read with great interest. It strikes me however that had you not signed an Exclusivity deal with Tescos, that EFC may well have had an opportunity to investigate such issues (relating to this and any other proposed site) and that therefore you would have the answers you seek.

Do you not think it ironic that the questions you ask are questions which you have not yourself answered in your 'Information Release' to the voters in this ballot? It is my sincere hope that you have answers for these questions re: Kirkby and that you are not basing your support for the move on the opinion of a couple of footballers: as good a footballer as Mikel Arteta is I am yet to see evidence of his ability to be the CEO of a multi-million pound business!

I am furthermore appalled that you feel justified in calling into question this solution when by your own words you clearly do not have sufficient information! How then have you judged the lack of suitabililty of this site?

In conclusion, I am astounded that a man of your undoubted experience would have made such basic errors in judgment; perhaps however it is not too late. Might I suggest that you either start doing your job properly or failing that, you resign?

Your Sincerely,
Rupert Sullivan, Bristol     Posted 09/08/2007 at 13:10:18

When he asked why they had not brought up the site before two weeks ago, that has nothing to do with the exclusivity period. There was nothing stopping them from talking about potential sites in the public, but they sat on their hands like they have for years now, all the while doing everything they could to appease that other club. The LCC thought the Kirkby thing would never go through, but now that the possibility is there due to Tesco and Knowsley’s assistance, they are scared and trying to sabotage it. And you lot talk about PR campaigns regarding us trying to sign players.

I’m fed up with this Loop nonsense.

But a No vote is not a yes vote to the Loop. This is a very good response to Wyness. Wyness is asking questions of the Loop that I want answering about Kirkby.

In any post I’ve put on here about the ground move, I’ll always say it, we have not been given anywhere near enough information on the whole practicalities of moving to Kirkby to even think about putting a cross next to YES. All we know is that Goodison is old.

Wyness, please tell us more about Kirkby by answering your own questions please.

Alan,

Has KW not already disclosed enough information for you?

He’s said that the stadium would cost around £100m with Tesco putting in £50m and getting around £75m worth of work for that value. EFC will pick up the tab by selling Goodison and naming rights for the new ground and any shortfall will be bourne by additioanl long term debt secured against the new stadium. The stadium would hoepfully be ready by 2010 and they have hired an Agency to deal with the transport issues. There are no major business developers in the immediate vicinity of the new site and the council are obviously behind it so there is not likely going to be any major opposition to the scheme. The stadium will be part of a larger commercial and leisure development (ie the enabling development) and you’ve seen pictures of the initial design.

What exactly is it that you want to know?

KW has known about the loop for over 6 months. A well known architect working on the major city centre developments highlighted it for him. So, how come he doesn’t know everything there is to know about this site? That has been his brief for the last 18 month+, exhaust all the options. This is an admission of incompetence.. as are the flawed questions he has raised. Why does Scotland Road need to handle the total influx at all? Doesn’t he know the city centre handles more than double this number of visitors every rush hr, with capacity for upto 5 times that of the stadium per hour? He is trying to plant seeds of doubt of an "option" before it even gets off the drawing board..... Why would any Evertonian wanting the best option for his club do this? Its very existence alone highlights the glaring failings of this CEO/board.

Why oh why do we have to decide such an important decision in a matter of days without having all the information in front of us.

Fact is we are being railroaded, will it matter if this decision is made at the end of the season? I doubt it, espicially as options are now starting to come to the fore, or is Bill and Keith on a nice little earner, when they have to sell their shares in a nice new stadium?????

Direct quote from Wyness:
"We do not believe that the existing transport infrastructure in the Scotland Road area would be able to cope with the volume of traffic generated on matchdays. It does seem inevitable that several bridges would have to be constructed. What would be the cost of upgrading the infrastructure and who will foot the bill?"

Please Wyness and Lee Spargo (perhaps you know something I don’t) tell me the answer to this question relating to Kirkby.

Also Lee, how come Tescos are giving us £50 million for a stadium? Is it because we play in blue and white? If Tescos are into giving out handouts, I think I will ask them to give me some money for a new house, they do seem very generous.

What are these big commercial options being touted around once we move to Kirkby? Look at Bolton, they’ve an all singing, all dancing stadium in the middle of a souless retail park. They’ve consistently finished top half and managed to get further than us in Europe recently yet they scrape around in the bargain basement like us for transfers. No sugardaddy has bought them. Middlesborough are another example, they’re an established premier league team with a good recent cup history. Gibson is not that rich by todays standards, why are they not being bought by a billionaire?

Why will we become such a promising investment when we’re up to our eyeballs in debt to Tescos and outside of the city of Liverpool where all major investment is going? Kirkby is a poisoned chalice and there’s no way back if a YES vote goes through.

Actually Allan I can answer those questions for you. The transport infrastructure in Kirkby will not remain how it is now. The stadium move there is part of an overall redevelopment of the entire area, which will include transportation development, including roads and public transport. This has already been stated and can be found on the official website.

Tesco are not giving a handout. Again, the proposed stadium move is part of a planned redevelopment of the area. Our stadium being there is seen as a big part of this and Tesco know how important this is. Therefore they, along with Knowsley are assisting us moving there because they know it will benefit them financially as well. It is seen as benefitting all parties. They pay a bit now to be able to make more in the long term. You could say they are investing in us, isn’t that what everyone has wanted? They will not give you a handout because you have nothing to offer them, Everton on the other hand do.

Bolton is a non-comparison. They have nowhere near the fan base we do, nor the history. That is why their stadium is soulless. Our stadium design has been created with the intent of keeping it as a traditional football ground, not a soulless bowl, and to help create the acoustics that we want.

We will become a promising investment because we will have a brand new stadium with many more corporate boxes, which generate a great deal of wealth. This will allow us to pay for the top players, which will allow us to win things, which is what investors want. At Goodison we are falling behind more and more each year.

David, it’s all wishy washy crap, can’t you see? They say the transport will be sorted. Do we just take their word for it? How will it be sorted, in the same way Bolton’s is? (which is a nightmare). Also, our history counts for nothing when it comes to investment. I don’t think we’re much different to Bolton in terms of an investment. Investors want to know about the future. You talk about our fan base. Honestly, deep down, do you think our fan base will even remain the same as it is, let alone grow by moving to Kirkby? Think about that one and answer it honestly - our fan base will dwindle by moving out of Liverpool especially as that lot build a new and far more accessable stadium. They will attract all the investment from remaining in the city and the much higher profile it brings. It is naive and dismissive to think otherwise.
We should also not be voting Yes just because it seems LCC don’t want us.

David, you have not told me anything. Tescos have built a massive store near me without the need for a football stadium. What is really in it for them? Why is it so important to Tescos?
Why are we being rushed into this decision? I respect the board for letting us have the vote but why not give us clear facts rather than being so vague. I honestly don’t think we’re getting a stadium for £50 million, it doesn’t add up at all. This is the future of our football club we’re deciding on and your vote should not be based on a faith that the board know what they’re doing. You should be totally happy that this is totally the right thing to do. If you have shreds of doubt then vote NO because there’s no way back if the majority vote yes and this board undoubtedly make a total farce of it.

First Alan I agree that Bolton do not compare to Everton so why is our owner pushing a similar option at us, we are better than that can you tell me what percentage the ground budget will over run as we are liable ,it seems a fair question and also with out going into debt how do we pay for it as I keep getting told the lack of debt is a main reason for moving we all know the catchment area is bullshit you could put liverpool, man u and chelsea in my back garden but I would still go to goodison football fans are not like shoppers but are treated as such on the feasibility study the corporate boxes are another example looking at what little we have seen and judging on cost and believe me stating this hurts our present neighbors have the advantage not least because of there location so where is this prosperity going to come from? If we wait for more information on all sites in and out of the city we might find which of us is right but to vote now is reckless with our future ,ask yourself in all honesty on what you know now if it was a house for your family would you move. too much trust in Kenwright is needed to vote yes at this time and please do not say you trust him how could you after the Dock farce magical fortress fund to name only two of Bills lies

Alan, you didn’t ask about comparing Bolton and Everton in investment terms, you were talking about the stadiums so to say that I didn’t answer that question is stupid. Do we just take their word for it that the roads and transport will be part of the redevelopment? Umm, it’s part of the planning, people are being paid for it, they have named the company they are working with, so yeah. The stadium is part of an OVERALL REDEVELOPMENT that will include improved transportation. If you’re just going to doubt anything they say until you see it then it is pointless discussing anything with you. Especially since you’re one of those that think that somehow by moving 4 miles everyone who lives in the city boundary will start supporting that other team. That is just a ridiculous argument. By that logic, every single person in Kirkby will switch allegiances and support Everton. No mate, Evertonians will remain Evertonians, as will their children, and if we are successful we will attract more supporters who move into the area. Also using your logic, will the children of Liverpool continue to support us in a run down stadium next to the other clubs massive brand new stadium that will be where many Evertonians currently park to go to the match. I answered your questions, you just refuse to hear them. Pull your head out of the sand.
