Sir Terry Tesco Toffee open letter

Comments (6)

Whilst currently removed from the UK perhaps distance gives more perspective on the crucial stadium question. Though feel free to discount my missive since my opinion should perhaps carry much less weight then those able to attend Everton's stadium.

In an age where cash is king, Sir Terry's words appear very wise indeed and perhaps should be taken on board fully. Since successful economics off the pitch is crucial to getting to the top consistently in the Premier League on the pitch it is surely a 'no brainer'. The richness of Everton's future history will be determined by achievments on the pitch more than which Liverpool/Merseyside 'L' postcode the stadium is based!

One of history's greatest economists, John Maynard Keynes, famously said, 'In the Long Run we are all Dead!' Accordingly, it is imperative the right choice is made to give Everton the chance to build on the progress being made. Look forward not back, onward and upwards Everton (on and off the pitch). COYB!

Would some kind soul please direct me to the location of the first written piece by Wyness in which he discusses the finances of the Kirkby proposal. I had it once and have misplaced it. I would like to compare the earliest Wyness figures with those released by Sir Terry Leahy in the last day or so. You know the sort of thing "Compare and contrast the two written pieces." Thanks in anticipation.

Never mind Keynes, on the matter of Fields; "On the whole, I’d rather be at Goodison." with apologies...

Here is the key statement in Terry Leahy’s letter: "[The ground] will be owned by Everton, and because of the contribution of Knowsley, Barr and Tesco, at a fraction of the cost of a stand alone scheme".

Let’s say it hopefully for the lst time: OTHER PEOPLE ARE LARGELY PAYING FOR OUR NEW GROUND!!

Do those voting NO seriously think there is any other current, or likely, option within the City of Liverpool that can even come close to Kirkby in terms of financial attractiveness?

Seriously? After the search, as Leahy makes plain, has been going on now for several years?

Opposing Kirkby because (a) you just don’t want Everton to go there, or (b) you think we should sit tight and wait for a very rich investor to make all financial constraints irrelevant to Everton - fine.

Opposing Kirkby because you think there is potentially a better financial option within the City of Liverpool - ridiculous.

Or perhaps Terry Leahy is inexperienced in financial and commercial matters and / or a self-interested liar?

I have to admit I was a NO voter for one simple reason:

I felt the club were not giving real financial info on the deal and were more just giving meaningless propaganda for the move playing on emotions. They were not really saying why we could not move to the Loop and were leaving it to us to make our own conclusions. Without factual info I found it tough to say "yes, lets move out of the city".

The brochure for instance was kak! They were saying why Kirkby, but not really why NOT anywhere else, exept to say they looked.

This letter at last states some facts about the Loop and other sites. And gives meaningful objective views to the debate.

I was already neutral at this stage due to the KEOIC proposals not really adding up financially, but this has made up my mind to a YES. An important letter all should read.

over.

Things are explained very well in the letter. I really hope the move goes through, I have no doubt it will move Everton to the next level.

Although terribly sad to be moving from Goodison and to a lesser extent Liverpool City boundaries, at last someone has articulated the real benefits of moving to Kirkby alongside Tesco.

Remember that Leahy is a Director of a FTSE 100 company, a publicly quoted company, and as such is bound to express the truth when discussing financial matters relating to Tesco PLC in public. His well articulated and IMO truthful summary of the proposed move has swayed my vote.

This indeed could be a "deal of the century". It is a pity Wyness could not have articulated the argument so well.
