The Mail Bag

Great Start for the Blues!

Finally, all the summer bullshit is over and we are back to business! (Okay, well, not quite: we still have two more weeks of transfer madness to suffer and the usual idiocy of Deadline Day!)

But enough of that: I'm really, really pleased that we got off to a good start with a very important home win to set the standard for the new campaign. I couldn't get the match today but it was great to see a big crowd and bouyant atmosphere in Goodison, cheering the lads on. And I'm overjoyed that two of our homegrown tallents (especially Oz) got the goals.

Yes, it's a pity David Moyes couldn't be more adventurous and it's a pity we didn't batter the living daylights out of them. But as modern-day Everton fans we need to be grateful for every one-goal victory Moyes and his conservative football brings us.

Onward and Upward! COYB!!!

Did anyone else notice Beattie got a goal for Sheffield Utd today? To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if he bagged almost 30 goals for them in the Championship. But that’s just it, it’d be 30 goals in the Championship. It just didn’t go for him at Goodison but I hope it goes well for him with Sheffield cos he really did seem to try. Arteta has bagged the Beebs player of the day too. I’m a bit annoyed we conceded a goal but 3 points are 3 points. Hurrah!

What a pity that ToffeeWeb did not see fit to highlight our manger`s achievement of reaching his 200th game in the top flight. This is a truly magnificent performance, bringing as it has, so many magic moments including derby victories we could only have dreamed about and the marvellous fourth in the Premier.

At least we, the matchgoers, could celebrate David`s accomplishment particularly as it resulted in a great win over a rugged and determined Wigan side. After the game, many of us felt that it would be folly to risk undermining our most efective `unit` by bringing in the likes of Yakubu and other high-profile players. This exceptional Everton side is all about players working for each other from first to last and whilst ? as ever ? happy to rely on Davey`s judgement in these matters, few of us would be displeased if any incomers were cast in similar mode.

What a season we have in prospect!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but haven't we been linked to Scharner, in the recent past?

Was impressed by him on Saturday - reasonably creative player, good range of passing, can strike the ball from range, and certainly big enough to withstand any physical stuff.

Not sure that Wigan would release him, but might it be worth putting in for this player?
