Sir Terry's letter is the most succinct of all I have read on the tiresome matter of the Kirkby project, and whether it makes any sense for us to basically own a spanking new increased revenue stadium ? for less than Liverpool pay for their summer overhaul. Can't you see that Kirkby will not be Kirkby anymore. I actually trust Sir Terry better than anyone on this move. He has the credentials.

One last thought: am I the only one on this planet that thinks that Liverpools proposed new ground is one of the most hideous that I have ever seen. It finally destroys the neighborhood. Quite frankly I look forward to moving away from Walton and believe that Liverpool are perhaps building a stadium that is doomed by not being drivable and parkable to.

I also wonder why Everton and Evertonians have not considered an almighty protest against the LCC. For the life of me I can not find one single reason why the Stanley Park covenant has been changed for the convenience of LFC. I do feel that Everton is entitled to millions in compensation (for instance the harm to our brand by forcing us out of little Liverpool and having us remain outside the city center).

Mike, I agree with you entirely, the design for the new Anfield is hideous and I thought that when I first saw the artists impressions last month. They are welcome to it.

What they should not be welcome to is the public green space being destroyed to build the monstrosity. That is a disgrace and I would not have supported the proposition if it had been Everton’s plan to build there. Many of us have been saying the same things as Terry Leahy has now said for many months albeit perhaps in a less informed way in the sense of the financial details and concrete information about the stadium itself. My great fear is that if the vote goes against the move to Kirkby the so called ’alternatives’ will evaporate like piss in a volcano, Liverpool City Council will still get their revenue from Everton Football Club and will be smugly satisfied, and the Club and we, its supporters will be left with nothing and the Grand Old Lady will really become the ’cowshed’ that some fear. Heads, heads, heads not a combination of hearts and vested interests.

Please let us move to Kirkby! As Sir Terry Leahy says, the Everton fan base is the City Region of Liverpool, not just the city centre!!! My hope is that most voters agree with these comments. For this and all the other reasons Terry outlines I support the move up the road. Sure, if we were talking about moving out to Milton Keynes that is ridiculous; but 4 miles up the road and shiny new stadium within the City Region is superb.

Mike, Your point regarding the Stanley Park covenant is one I totally agree with. If a supermarket or virtually any other structure was put forward for that area of the park, people would be up in arms.
This park belongs to the people of Liverpool, not the council or any other company (whether that is Liverpool or Everton).
How they’ve gotten around that is totally undemocratic and beyond belief really, but nothing surprises me with the LCC.
Money talks as they say.

Personally, I think that Leahy’s letter will turn the tide in favour of a YES vote.

He is the real deal, and for one I am thrilled that he is driving the deal to bring our club a new stadium. Because he has the experience, ability, and political clout to make sure that it happens. As such a prominent public figure, he cannot afford for it to fail.

Maybe you don’t trust Kenwright, and you don’t trust Wyness. I have my doubts too. But Leahy will deliver. He always has.

Get this: there is no other Terry Leahy about to come along to save Everton. No other such powerful businessman, who also happens to be a committed Everton.

This opportunity is real, it is here, now. We need a new ground soon, not somewhere in the distant future. We will be truly sorry if we pass this up for a bunch of LCC mirages and fond hopes for unknown future saviours.

I think that Terry Leahy’s letter may have come too late to salvage the yes vote. I believe that Wyness has got it completely wrong with his one-sided, ill-informed PR campaign. I know loads of blues who qualify to vote and all say no; the main reason being Wyness’s bullying approach and the fact that he immediately dismisses any alternative without knowing half the facts. Wyness has made the move to Kirkby his personal crusade and he doesn’t have the trust of Evertonians to carry this off, the pack that came with the voting slips was more of a reason to vote against for many fans, his ’open letter’ was just embarrasing and getting players to come out in support smacks of desperation.

The Terry Leahy letter carries a great deal of credibility, but I feel that Wyness’s cack-handed approach to date has already put enough nails in the ’yes’ vote.

Andy, The biggest act of desperation so far is surely having a plane trailing a banner "say no to Kirkby", without providing financial info on any realistic alternatives.
I think this will actually work infavour of a Yes vote.

Yes lets all blame LCC shall we?
How many more times do you need to hear this? Its kenwrights fault the Kings Dock fell through not the councils. They did all they could to help us then and are probably sick of BK and his moving goal posts. Why blame the council? Is it there fault that BKs finances arent up to the job.The only reason we are moving to Kirkby is because Kenwright cant afford to keep us in the city so we are scuttling off like shithouse rats.Blame Kenwright,Blame Wyness,Blame God but for FFS stop whinging about the LCC and what LFC have been given.LFCs board probably kept up there end of the bargain and didnt fuck anyone about and thats why they got Stanley Park.

Karl, I don’t disagree. My point is that Wyness’s approach has turned many evertonians to the ’No’ vote, whereas Terry Leahy gives a very compelling reason to vote yes. The jist of my submission was that, although Leahy has helped the Yes vote, Wyness has already done too much work to undermine it.

Those backing the ’No’ vote and flying banners/putting stickers on people/generally making a lot of noise are Evertonians who feel their points aren’t being heard and are representing their own views to attempt to counter the infinitly larger resources that Wyness has at his disposal. Wyness’s job is to represent Everton and the fans. I beleive he has made a complete mess of the PR campaign and has lost the trust of many Blues who now directly associate him with the move to Kirky, they don’t associate Everton with the move (somewhat akin to Tony Blair being associated Iraq as opposed to the labour party being associated - extreme example, but I hope you get my point). Yes Wyness is the figure head, but he has become embroiled in petty arguements, been too quick to damn alternatives without giving the opportunity to present themselves and put out some very spurious facts.
I think it is a real shame that the campaign has been handled this badly and caused such a huge divide between Evertonians. This should be a positive and exciting time, but has become petty and divisive (on both sides), as figure head for Everton and Evertonians, Wyness should have risen above all this and not got involved in playground tactics and name calling. The reason many Blues are saying no is that they don’t feel that Wyness is properly recognising or reflecting their concerns, less that they are opposed to Kirkby. Hence why many feel the need to align themselves with KEIOC, who are the only co-ordinated group asking questions.

Whichever way the vote goes, I hope that Blues can move forward together, but I fear that the way the campaign has been run has generated such strong emotions and division among fans that it may take some time (unless we win something this year, and it will soon be forgotten!)

Andy, I understand your point, but disagree to a large extent that KW has handled it badly. Basically everything he has said with regards to alternatives (and maybe they’ve been said in too dismissive a manner), have been proved right thus far. The alternative with regards to redeveloping Goodison, has been dismissed by architects (and other independant observers). The only realistic alternative, The Loop has been virtually dismissed by The Chamber of Commerce due to retail conflicts at the very least, not to mention finances and planning.
KW is acting from a businessmans point of view and as such remains largely unemotional in this.
The fact such an emotional issue has gone to a vote is what is causing the bad feeling towards the board and between fans. The sooner its over the better.

Tony Marsh, you have in the past made some remarks which have been spot on , but I fear that your personal vendetta against Moyes, Kenwright et al are becoming tiresome and bordering on libel. Like many many Blues I don?t get a ?buzz? about moving to Kirkby but as there are no REAL alternatives it is with heavy heart that I am swaying towards a ?yes? vote. No I don?t want to leave the city, No I don?t want EFC to be also rans and No I don?t want us to locate to an area of the City which is unsuitable. I only wish that Terry Tesco would go the whole hog and become Chairman at Everton and then we just might see a change in the way we run our business. The club should not have provided a vote to the supporters as it doesn?t seem to serve any useful purpose. Those who are totally against the move will continue to complain many years after we have moved, those that support the move without question will continue to bang on about the many advantages which have been gained, whilst those of us who are unsure, which I believe to be the majority of fans will make our choice and hope for the best. Whatever happens we can only hope that a fresh start entails a better way of managing all things Everton. We desperately need a team which is capable of winning things and that as always will be the real catalyst for gaining new supporters and raising the profile of the club.
